Thus, Tom Pearson (RAW #33) is unable to get online, and can't receive your posts intended for inclusion in Wha' Gwan. While Tom is offline, please send your Wha' Gwan posts to me - via nanlewis@bellsouth.net - and I will forward them to Eric (RAW #1418), the Wha' Gwan sub-editior, to be posted to the massive. Nan Lewis (RAW #72) RAW Board of Directors [2]--------------------------------------------------------------------- >From: Papa Pilgrim #1 From: Papa Pilgrim #1 Subject: Greetings from Papa Pilgrim #1on RAW`'s 10th Anniversary Date: Monday, December 09, 2002 6:26 AM RAW's 10th Anniversary... A few days ago Tom "Jah Son" Pearson (RAW #33), Executive Director of Reggae Ambassadors Worldwide, asked that I write a few words for RAW's 10 year anniversary. Though some have called me pithy, I've never been a person of few words. So, I hesitated in responding to Tom for fear that I might end up writing too many words that won't be read. Ultimately, I agreed to write "a few" words. Here then: Sometime during the 80s I began making a point of welcoming Reggae bands to Salt Lake City. I would try to meet the bands as they were loading in their equipment and instruments to their venue for the night. Thus I mark the comception of Reggae Ambassadors Worldwide as being at that time. How the seed was planted and nurtured has often been told. Concisely put, Roger Lewis of Inner Circle band, told me that I should link up with other folks around the world. These were folks like me, just a fan, welcoming the bands to town. Fast forward to early 90s. While seeking background information for a magazine article I chanced upon a phone call to Rastaman Nane'. I told him about Roger Lewis' suggestion that Reggae people should link up. Nane' said "let's do it" and we did. From December 11-13, 1992 fifty Reggae Ambassadors met in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Reggae Ambassadors Worldwide was born. Very fast forward to December 11, 2002. Those of you who have been members from the beginning know the story. Those of you who are new are part of the story. Through the efforts of RAW members, performing artists are having their work seen and heard around the globe. That might have not happened had other RAW members, seeing an unmet need, pioneered Reggae radio in their home town. Reggae Radio begat Reggae Clubs begat Reggae Venues begat Reggae Fans begat, begat, and begat. At each "begat" there was a Reggae Ambassador. Today, that Ambassador is you. The story is that for the past 10 years RAW members have "Been Forwarding the Reggae Vibe...Everytime." Thank you! During the four weeks that we were journeying on the great highways and byways of North America's west coast, Soul Majestic had the pleasure of befriending many new and beautiful people and enjoyed playing at some crucial new venues. To those who did'nt make any of the shows, you were in our thoughts. And to all the people in San Diego and Southern Cal that were unable to see us due to an unfortunate cancellation in San Diego, we assure you that we will be back in your area soon. As far as my favorite show of the tour, it's a tough decision, but it had to be our home town of Santa Cruz, CA. The crowd was pumped that night, and it was clear that the hometown posse was happy to have us back. After Soul Majestic gave them a good hour-long set, capped off by a sizzling encore of "Conqueror," Rocker-T and the Soul Majestic rhythm section kept the vibes high with a powerful set including many new songs off the upcoming "More Luv" release. Thanks to PSM Recordings, Drew, Jah Minds Eye Sounds, Ras Lou-I, and Rocker-T for a successful tour. We are currently working on a short documentary of this last tour that will soon be posted on our web site. What's Next? Well, so far we are enjoying the time off, but to give you a heads up there's talk of another tour with Rocker-T in February 2003, with the additions of Colorado and Arizona. In January and throughout the beginning of the new year you can also expect to see us playing around the greater California area at such venues as Moe's Alley and the Catalyst in Santa Cruz, 19 Broadway in Fairfax, SoHo or The Absinth in Santa Barbara, The Redwood Pub in Garberville, and a new spot in Soledad. You can also check our web site www.soulmajestic.com and toll free hotline # 866.372.9033 for upcoming shows and events. Great News! We just found out that our album has been #1 on a radio station in Guam. It has been at #1 for a few months. Thanks to RAW (Reggae Ambassadors Worldwide) and Tom Pearson, we are able to bring our music to people internationally. If you know of a radio station in your area that could use our music please let us know by calling our hotline number or e-mailing us the call numbers/letters, DJs name, the stations phone # and DJs time slot so we can send him or her our album. Also if we are being played on your local station(s) don't be afraid to request our music. We are also excited to announce, if you already didn't know, that our album is listed as # 8 on a world wide playlist compiled from RAW DJs. To all of our Soul Majestic crew that makes it all possible. Thank you for all the hard work and love that you have put in to this musical movement. Your work is not unseen.
