IRIE TIME reviewed in The BEAT IRIE TIME [#355], Live Up! (Inherent Music) captures one of America's leading exponents of roots rock reggae with all-original songs like "Comin' Home," "Right Thing Now" and "Infinity Train" showcasing this four-piece (bass, drums, guitar and keyboards, with everybody but the drummer singing) in concert. Scottie McDonald, who sings lead and plays guitar, takes the band through sophisticated changes while the hard-driving riddims hold it steady. Massive, Eight For Eight is now into its 3rd strong year of delivering all could-goods from Scratch. Specializing in the music of Lee Scratch Perry we have currently on our website at www.eight4eight.com over 400 titles relating to the man, The Mighty Upsetter, or Dr. Lee, PhD as the Beasty Boys have dubbed him. It's hard to imagine the reggae world without the Small Axe, Hugh Rainford Lee Scratch Perry. To ring in the holiday season and the new year we are offering a 10% discount on all orders as well as free shipping for orders of $100 or more. We have some dynamite items in stock, many quite difficult to find anywhere else. I would also like to add that, as I have been doing for other RAW artists like Deadly Headly's band Saxsemilla, I would be more than happy to distribute promo materials with shipped orders to our 848 customers. Often I am asked to carry various titles but in order to stay true to the theme of the shop I have had to decline if there is no Scratch connection to the product - and thus keep some kind of focus to the business. However if you get us promo materials such as brochures or fliers I will definitely make sure they are distributed around the world to 848's customers and thus get some exposure for RAW artists. Please send promo materials to Eight For Eight Music PO Box 888 Boulder, CO 80306 USA. Lastly there is a project a gwan called "Loader Than Words: The Definitive Dancehall Documentary", an effort by two brothers Norm and Russell Stolzoff whom I have known for many years. They are looking for help in terms of funding and it anyone is interested please contact me about this project. Norm has also written a book called Wake The Town, a serious look at the dancehall culture in Jamaica that deserves everyone's attention. Norm can be reached at wakethetown@yahoo.com. That's the update and dont forget to visit the website at www.eight4eight.com or email us at rain4dk@eight4eight.com. Big up and large respect to all those sending CD promos as I always try to get them some airtime at KGNU, and to all good RAW people, spreading the postive reggae vibe around in these difficult times. Special hail up to ambassadors Richie Prafder, Mad Professor, Harry "Malawi" C, Mikey Dread Campbell, Tom "Speedo", Postman Roger, Kaati, Casper, JD @ Motion records and any other idrens and sisdrens I have left out, you are all stars!! This is a real challenge but a very important one to regain balance, peace and health in a world that is not supportive of these attributes. We work with this everyday to varying degrees of success but here's what we have learned from Rasta and Hopi Teachings (The Hopis of Arizona were once the most peaceful and spiritual Native American Tribe. See the message from their Elders below.). We have spent time with the elders of both groups. We hope it will be of value to you. 1) As much as possible, clean up your diet by reducing, and preferably eliminating, meat, chicken, fish, shrimp, crab, etc. ("Thou shalt not kill."), diary products, sugar, processed foods and try to eat mostly organic. The herbivore in you is much clearer, healthier and more in tune with nature than the carnivore. Know One Love again and teach it in all ways. 2) Spend more time exercising in nature, JAH's world. It's harder to get clear looking at sheetrock, metal and plastic. 3) Buy only what you need. Don't get caught in Babylon's vanity, power, pleasuring and, especially, commercialism. It traps you in the wheel of buying-paying-earning-indebtedness.("Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.") 4) Live simply. Love and respect Mother Earth. 5) Don't be bitter towards Babylon or people caught in its illusions, even world leaders. It is a planetary system that everybody struggles with. It creates our growth by having something to push us to greater clarity. No one is to blame. It is a collective illusion. Welcome to Planet Earth. 6) Establish your own personal Covenant with the Creator within you--in whatever form (Christ, Buddha, Haile Selassie I, One Love, etc. She/He may call to you.) 7) Find work that feels good in your heart to earn your money. This may take some time to do. Follow your bliss. 8) Offer something back to the world. You will be provided with all the resources to do this. It may be money, time, energy or varying combinations of each. 9) Watch what you put in your mind (TV programs, music, reading, friends, etc.). Keep it uplifting. 10) As much as possible love everyone brought into your life each day. This will help them and you free yourselves from Babylon, a system that leads everyone away from God (Love). 11) Stay positive. As bizarre or hopeless as it seems at times the planet is unfolding as it should and there is no power greater than One Love (GOD) so the outcome is certain. Relax, laugh, enjoy your life as you work towards above. Don't take anything personally. I hope the above is helpful. It is what we have learned to date. One Love, Robert and Julia Roskind Message from the Hopi - People of Peace August 2002 You have been telling people that this is the Eleventh Hour, now you must go back and tell them that this is the Hour. And there are things to be considered: Where are you living? What are you doing? What are your relationships? Are you in right relation? Where is your water? Know your garden. It is time to speak your Truth. Create your community. Be good to each other. And do not look outside yourself for the leader. This could be a good time! There is a river flowing now very fast. It is so great and so swift that there are those who will be afraid. They will try to hold onto the shore. They will feel they are being torn apart, and they will suffer greatly. Know the river has its destination. The Elders say we must let go of the shore, push off into the middle of the river, keep our eyes open and our heads above water. See who is in there with you and celebrate. At this time in history, we are to take nothing personally, least of all, ourselves. For the moment that we do, our spiritual growth and journey, comes to a halt. The time of the lone wolf is over. Gather yourselves! Banish the word 'struggle' from your attitude and your vocabulary. All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration. We are the ones we have been waiting for. Another HUGE THANKS goes out to Angela and Stitchie at FLAMINGO CANTINA (RAW member), who donated the club for the night, and who helped promote through media and advertising. The club was nearly a full house, full up with yardies from all over the state, packing in later in the night. We don't have a huge reggae community here like some big cities, but I have to say, we have an amazingly tight, loyal, and committed reggae massive who truly spread the ONE LOVE vibe.
