Rasta/Reggae Art as I intend to portray in my work, is meant to challenge precepts (mental slavery) held within us and within this system/shitstem/Babylon. I am happy to say that in communication with Sarah Harris, the Cabaret director ,an open and face to face dialogue will be taking place shortly, with open Artist/Cabaret dialogue to take place shortly after that. My work is and will be welcomed once again at Patrick's Cabaret. The Arts have been under attack in America. Patrick's Cabaret has experienced this before, Sarah Harris in this move, is in keeping with the history and spirit of the Cabaret, and thus in its own way, chanting down Babylon. Folks who wish to express their support should write sarah_harris@patrickscabaret.org A date for the radio version of "Scenes From A Reggae Western"will be announced shortly. For details contact me at my e-mail address or go to David Daniels www.mnartists.org Would love to hear from Reggae Internet Radio sites! On another note, a very exciting summer. TOK will be performing in Los Angeles on Friday, October 4th. If you’re a Reggae or Dancehall fan you know of them. If not, well let me just put it to you like this; TOK is the JODECI of Dancehall Reggae. They are an amazing group with unparalleled harmonies (Dancehall has never seen such before), uncanny flavor, clever lyrics and a great stage presence. If you’re a fan of Dancehall Reggae you can’t miss this. If your on the fence but like stuff like Sean Paul’s blazing ‘Gimmie The Light’ trust me when I tell you, you NEED TO WITNESS TOK. If your feeling Sean Paul’s song you will walk away lovin’ TOK! Plus you can get in at half the price! They will be performing at ‘THE REGGAE ZONE’ which is held at Club Lingerie on the corner of Sunset and Wilcox 6507 Sunset Blvd. The normal price to get into ‘The Reggae Zone’ is $20.00. If you email: thereggaezone@hotmail.com, you get in for $10.00 before 10pm. I can’t stress enough the dynamic talents of TOK. From the deep throat sounds of the subtle and suave ‘Bassie’, to the smiley cheekiness of teddy-bear ‘Craigy-T’, to the high octane vocals of ‘Flexxx’ and the complementary pitch of ‘Alex’ your in for a treat! Their unique collective sound has attributed to the success of songs like; ‘Money To Burn’ and ‘Shake Your Bam Bam’, both of which have experience rotation on New York’s HOT 97 and Miami’s Power 99. Plus they’ve been heating up radio with songs like; "Galang Gal" on the "Diwali" (Dancehall riddim), "Wap Them and Done" on the "Famine", "Murderer" on the "Glue" riddim and "Pengeleng" on the "Hard Drive" riddim. Once again, like "Chi Chi Man", which really blew the group up on the Dancehall forefronts, their lyrical content earned them some media attention in Jamaica as "Pengeleng’s" chorus has some not so subtle innuendoes. It goes something like; "Hey gal, you a look pon me hard - hey yo!" "I hope you can handle Pengeleng". of course you know what the ‘Pengeleng’ implication is and apparently some in Jamaica didn'’t appreciate that. But hey, it’s all good! And that song is WICKED! THE REGGAE ZONE is held each Friday by the team of GT International; Gary B (310-307-0427) and Marcus B (310-932-4479). You can call them for more details. BACKGROUND BOB MARLEY Bob Marley was one of the most influential songwriter of the 20th century. "My music will live forever," he predicted in 1975. Consider the following from Robert Roskind's book: "Rasta Heart: A Journey Into One Love." "Over 300 million of his (Bob Marley) records, tapes and CD's have been sold worldwide. His album, "Exodus," was chosen by Time Magazine in 1999 as "The most Important Album of the 20th Century." The New York Times wrote, "Marley is the most influential artist of the second half of the 20th Century" and when they chose one video to epitomize the past century to be preserved in a time capsule, they chose Bob Marley Live at the Rainbow, London, 1977. His song "One Love" was chosen as the "Anthem of the Millennium" by the BBC." Robert Roskind can be reached by e-mail at roskind@boone.net. His books can be purchased on the Internet at www.rastaheart.com. That means that NONE OF THE FOLLOWING can be forwarded in the news-letter graphics of any kind sound files HTML messages (this require a HUGE amount of editing to be acceptable by all) 3) Your Subject Header should be indicative of the subject of your message "for Wha Gwaan" is NOT an appropriate subject Header "Please post" is NOT an appropriate subject header "From JoeSchmo" is NOT an appropriate subject Header 4) ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS include your RAW membership number....PLEASE!!!!! 5) do not submit anything by REPLYING to or FORWARDING an earlier issue of Wha Gwaan in RAW? This also requires a huge amount of editing, which could be prevented by one or two simple selections on the sender's part. 6) Make sure your submission includes complete contact information if an announcement of an event, release, etc. Please include a snail mail address for off-liners. 7) Your submission will go out as it was sent in (with exceptions noted above), so make sure what you send in is what you want to go out. 8) Please give a minimum of three days advance time for time-sensitive info. 9) With a couple exceptions, DJ playlists will not be included in "Wha Gwaan in RAW?"
