DIA: #1446 Global Rock Showcase - SOB's - 10/29/02 SISTER "MUMMA" NANCY, JUNIE RANKS, SISTER CHARMAINE, KING DJANGO, DUB AGENTS. The original dancehall queen Sister Nancy 'longside Junie Ranks and Sister Charmaine rocked SOB's last nite. This was a nite for the ladies. The massive in attendance enjoyed all segments of the Global Rock Showcase. Sister Nancy was all about roots and culture. She performed to classic like Ansa, Cuss Cuss, One-Two, Stagalag and more. Junie Ranks and Sister Charmaine performances were on the lighter side but they too performed well. This trio next show is in Hartford, CT, December 14. Bigup to Mr. Winston Riley and the Techniques label (the common factor in all three of the ladies career). International ska/reggae/rock luminary King Django also performed well. Bigup to "CHARMAINE" (formerly of Worl-A-Girls) who co-hosted with Sista Kufunya. "Charmaine" performed one song (We Belong from her current solo CD "Say You Love Me") in tribute to the three original divas. The Dub Agents, One Drop, Drummer Paul, Earl Appleton and Agent Jay supplied the sound. Respect to Mark Shine, Hamma, Jet, Tony Rankin', Enid Harrow, Cassandra Goings and George Golding who were in attendance. Big thanks for SOB's (www.sobs.com) for hosting the Global Rock Showcase. Next GRS will be December 03. Any one interested in a live taping of the show please send a signal. Blessed Barry DIA (Global Rock In Effect!!) It was good to be able to share once again the Gospel of Jesus Christ thru reggae music alongside with Ten Shekel Shirt and closing that day, the OC Supertones. The weather in Calistoga that day was very hot which gave everybody the right to throw water everywhere at each other even having a big water hose out there spraying people down just to keep them cool as the Supertones were keeping the people movin'. It was an honor again for us to play for the second time there at the festival. for more info: www.rockofagesiii.com "Reggae In The Park" This years reggae in the park attracted thousands of people celebrating and promoting the culture of the Caribbean through reggae and world beat music, ethnic arts and crafts, and an array of international cuisine. Youth Exodus opened up Sunday morning (Oct. 6) with a touch of island reggae, mixed with lovers rock, dancehall, and roots. That day we opened for bands such as Caribbean Pulse, Junior Reid and the one blood family and headlining that day Toots and the Maytals also appearing with Toots was Bonnie Rait. We also had the oppurtunity to do some radio interviews backstage where they asked us to translate "One Love" from English to Tongan. for more info: www.eventswestca.com PROJECTS: I may not be able to give you a release date for the album, but I can give you the title. The title is "Life, Love, and Stereo". We are working right now on mixing the album which will take another 50-72 hours and then mastering for sound quality, then getting it to you! The album features a beautiful painting which will speak for the whole album before even listening to it. I will be sure to keep you informed with the progress of the album. Until then May God continue to bless and guide! This 53 minute disc reflects the artists’ musical connection to both Appalachia and Jamaica. Celebrating the 21st century, this foundation of stellar musicianship is topped with plenty of production audio values. From the life of an appalachian man, the 14 true songs written in the hollers and on the ridges are graced by the Rasta rhythmn of bass and drums, the spirit of upful livin‘ and are full of American country get up and go! “LETTER FROM APPALACHIA” opens with the one-drop-two-steppin, guitar showcasin COUNTRY REBEL, that sets the tone for what’s in store. SO MUCH BETTA encourages us to turn off the tv and turn on our Life. Played on a hand-built guitar, the all instrumental RASTAFARI RIDGE could be an ancient Reggae fiddle tune while LIVIN IN THE APPALACHIANS is a piano spiced appalachian revival all by itself! The job site call and response of WORKIN ON A BUILDIN puts up the foundation while OBSERVATION is a study of the machinations of society. DREADNECK kicks up the dust Carter family style and live performance chestnut CYAN’T CAGE A LION enjoys its first commercial studio release. GATEKEEPER reminds us of our own possibilities, the mandolin riff and the voice effects echoing the message that brings it all home. RAS ALAN is joined by Lion veterans ROBERT ‘BROTHER BOB’ FRANKLIN with his inspiring harmonies and steady bass, JEREMY ‘best shoes in the Reggae business’ CORN on accordian, organ, and piano putting the spirit in every note and J.P. DELANOYE on the harmonica and his own smooth sounding “Deltamatic” lasteel. Sharing Burke County,NC origins with Ras Alan, BOBBY “BP” PEARSON keeps us dancing on the drums, celebrating life and music every beat of the way. RAS ALAN rounds up the vibe with vocals, bass, Djun-Djun, ashiko, harmonica, saw, organ, resophonic and electric guitar, a buddy’s hand made mandolin and a small body acoustic guitar that Ras Alan built himself. RAS ALAN has shared the stage with Reggae notables Burning Spear, Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, the Wailers, the I-Threes, the Itals, Lucky Dube, Inner Circle, the Mediations, Black Uhuru, Justin Hinds, Sista Carol, Sugar Minott and performed alongside Junior Brown, the Austin Lounge LIzards, Foghat, Leftover Salmon, as well as impromptu sessions with Doc Watson, Jethro Burns and Frank Wakefield in the fire stations, flea markets and front porches of America. RAS ALAN is available for phone interviews, in-stores, and live radio performances. Please contact Deanna at http://www.appalachianreggae.com or 1.800.MTN.VIBE for booking information.
