PLEASE! Date: Friday, August 01, 2003 5:28 AM From: "Tom Pearson" Greetings all! In recent days I have seen a marked increase of submissions for our newsletter "Wha Gwaan in RAW?" that do NOT follow the guidelines suggested, and which have been announced many times. I will REPEAT! Wha Gwaan in RAW? is a strictly TEXT-BASED newsletter. Since we must send out to members of varying computer capabilities, it is necessary to restrict submissions to TEXT ONLY. That means no graphics, color, sound, bells or whistles. No attachments! Anything sent with the above-mentioned extras will be returned to the sender, and WILL NOT BE INCLUDED in WGIR Also, today I received at least four messages submitted in HTML format. Now I realize how cool such announcements can be, but unfortunately, none of those extras (i.e. bolding, italics, underlining, etc) will show up in WGIR, and before I can send a message to Eric for inclusion in WGIR, I have to go through and delete all those commands. That means deleting every
,  , , etc. This is a very time consuming task, and one which I am simply no longer able to do. I have NO idea how messages are sent in HTML, I just know we can't receive them. If you are sending a message in HTML, I will, from this moment forward, return it to you, and ask you to re-send the message in basic no-frills text. So the basic rule for WGIR submissions is: TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT and NOTHING ELSE! First, we went to the Oregon Country Fair which was like going to a huge hippie pop-festival with a roots/reggae patina. Lot's of drumming circles, some reggae. Then we went on to the World Music Festival in Grass Valley. Again a very good vibe, with musician from all over the world. The emphasis was more on the music than the message. At night there were large drumming circles at the campground. We meet with Bob Platt, who held his "International Forgiveness Day Celebration" in Golden Gate Park featuring reggae group Culture this last weekend (www.forgivenessday.org). We also met with Jim Dincalci who teaches forgiveness workshops (www.forgivenessfoundation.org). We spent a week at Mt. Shasta where we met with Kerrie Wilson who is putting together a solutions-oriented festival to take to colleges (www.phoenixvoyage.com). She is working with Ereana Reil Nygard who works with the traditionalist Hopis and she is teaching solutions in sustainable living systems (www.livingsystems). Then, after catching Culture in Santa Cruz, we had a booth at the San Francisco Caribbean Festival, where we made some contacts with Sharifah Ishan and Aeeshah and Kokomon Clottey who run the Attitudinal Healing Connection (AHC) in Oakland, CA (http://ahc-oakland.org/), a non-religious, non-political community based organization with the mission of "eliminating violence from the lives of our children, our community and our selves." They are interested in having us and Abijah bring our "One Love/Fire of Forgiveness Concerts" to the Bay Area. Though we could not attend, Abijah, along with our Jamaican friends Sharon Chambers and Sister Chirya, went to Oxford, England to do a One Love Concert for The Living Values Educational Program (LVEP) Annual Conference (www.livingvalues.net). This organization teaches values to children worldwide. Through all of this, it confirmed to us that there are a few but growing number of people committing to heal the planet all in their own powerful way with Oneness from the heart. All are working on changing consciousness into a more loving, human-oriented direction knowing that it is this change that will eventually lead to solutions to many of the problems and injustices we now face. It is not a large group but a large group is not needed. People are hearing the message and responding. It is growing. What's next? We are planning the "One Love: Healing of the Hopi Nation" on the Hopi reservation in Sept or Oct. It is part of their 1100-year old prophesy that their tribe would begin a healing before a global healing would begin. Also planning to bring the vibe to Fayetteville, Arkansas as well as the SF Bay Area this fall. Also planning more concerts in Jamaica and, hopefully, a large free concert in Kingston on Bob Marley's birthday featuring many conscious reggae artists. More details to follow as well as a new Website with more info plus video footage of the One Love Concerts. : We will have a booth and be speaking at Camp Reggae (www.campreggae.com) in the Georgia-Tennessee mountains August 29-31. Fresno's JAMAICA MY WEEKEND was awesome Date: Mon, 11 Aug 2003 17:16:40 EDT From: ReggaeW@aol.com Fresno's 6th JAMAICA MY WEEKEND mini-festival with MIKEY DREAD, his DREAD AT THE CONTROLS BAND, (with Fazel, Fabian Cook and other stellar musicians), AKUA and QUEEN'S COMPOUND (catch them: fabulous woman power!), PACIFIC VIBRATIONS (who saved us at last minute when local band cancelled), RED I (both M.C. and performer, like at Reggae On The River), REALITY SOUNDS spinning in between, SCIENTIST mixing it up -- plus the Tower District Marketing Committee and a great volunteer crew of about 70 fresno folks, along with all the 800 people that showed up to enjoy reggae outdoors on the grass, under the moon and stars in the Tower District, oh, and the free cookies distributed (thanks, my baking friends!), and the crafts and food vendors -- all made this an irie evening last night!!! Also many record labels and artists sent free goodies for the Information Booth and that were grabbed up by the people, always good to edu-tain at same time. Carmelita from Irie Vision came from the Bay area and RAW member Evan came too, for his 3rd JA MY WKND, which as he says, is pretty good for a guy from Detroit! Mikey told the crowd Fresno was his favorite audience -- you may laugh but having toured a little in my past, I can say that Fresno is so enthusiastically demonstrative and appreci-loving of reggae compared to other more subdued towns, that I believe him! He had the crowd so high!! He would let them sing the words of all his hits in to the mic and that was SO entertaining (some can sing, some can not!!) -- Everyone on stage, and off stage, gave a great musical gift to the people of Fresno! After the festival ended at 10:30 or so, the ones that could (over 21), walked a half block to the club, where AKUA AND QUEEN'S COMPOUND kept it going til late late. OH and there SCIENTIST and DJ JORDAN saved the night when the club forget to provide a sound man for the After Party! I am tired today, but so HIGH on it all... i always marvel at the performer -- what a gift to move people so!!! What thrills me is that I KNOW we showed some folks, new to reggae, something new and beautiful last night and I thank everyone for helping that happen. Especially JAH! well, i am going outside to hang with my tortoises, i have kinda ignored them lately... I will also turn a blind eye to the huge huge mound of canopies, tables, coolers, extension cords, lights, dishes, food, fencing, magazines, papers, tapestries, etc etc all piled in my back yard! *********************************************************************** In the abundance of water, the fool is thirsty Forward the Reggae Vibe...Every Time !
