PLEASE! Date: Friday, August 01, 2003 5:28 AM From: "Tom Pearson" Greetings all! In recent days I have seen a marked increase of submissions for our newsletter "Wha Gwaan in RAW?" that do NOT follow the guidelines suggested, and which have been announced many times. I will REPEAT! Wha Gwaan in RAW? is a strictly TEXT-BASED newsletter. Since we must send out to members of varying computer capabilities, it is necessary to restrict submissions to TEXT ONLY. That means no graphics, color, sound, bells or whistles. No attachments! Anything sent with the above-mentioned extras will be returned to the sender, and WILL NOT BE INCLUDED in WGIR Also, today I received at least four messages submitted in HTML format. Now I realize how cool such announcements can be, but unfortunately, none of those extras (i.e. bolding, italics, underlining, etc) will show up in WGIR, and before I can send a message to Eric for inclusion in WGIR, I have to go through and delete all those commands. That means deleting every
,  , , etc. This is a very time consuming task, and one which I am simply no longer able to do. I have NO idea how messages are sent in HTML, I just know we can't receive them. If you are sending a message in HTML, I will, from this moment forward, return it to you, and ask you to re-send the message in basic no-frills text. So the basic rule for WGIR submissions is: TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT and NOTHING ELSE! I became concerned with the news that the Grammies were considering dropping Reggae as a catergory in the Grammy awards. Babylon is hard to deal with. But Reggae has a friend & defender in Roger Steffens. There have not been enough Reggae records submited for Grammy consideration. I have contacted groups who I know would be interested in saving the Reggae Grammy. They are sending me thier material to do thier part. If you could forward this info to any and all the R.A.W. groups, my deadline for submissions is 9/30/03. But i'm sending material this month. The sooner the better! I think this should be at the top of our agenda when we meet at Charlemont FEST on the 6 of September. It's the least we can do and will have the greatest impact if we can save the Reggae Grammy. Any suggestions you have will be appreciated. I'm collecting material for giveaways to the new commited fans who sign up at the festival. Responce has been great. [SNIP] Starting this week I will be doing radio spots for the Fest and the R.A.W. sign up drive. I have some contacts in Conn. who will help get the word out. The D.J.s from R.A.W. should Know of this and get the word out. Save the Reggae Gramms. Look to here from you soon. Nuff Respect! Described as one of today's top female modern roots reggae vocalists, this roots daughter brings her soaring and engaging voice along with her years of experience as a professional musician backing internationally known reggae artists in this her fourth release. BLACK SHEEP was recorded in Kingston with many of Jamaica's finest including Yabby You (technical advisor), Horsemouth (drums, background vocals), Danny Thompson (bass), Obeah (keyboards), Zacky (keyboards), Dalton Browne (guitar, background vocals), Likkle D (guitar), Skully (percussion), Dean Frazer (sax), David Madden (trumpet), Calvin Cameron (trombone) Everton Gayle (sax) and mixed by Soljie and Sylvan Morris (Bob Marley). Zema's music has been described as "healing music for the 21st century." She again showcases her talents as singer, songwriter, arranger and producer as well as her deep spirituality which are reflected in these 13 cuts of potent conscious roots reggae and dub. One track, "Freedom Dub," includes speech excerpts from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., an important voice seldom recognized in reggae. Sound samples of BLACK SHEEP are available at NiceUp.com (http://www.niceup.com/sounds.html) Initial response to BLACK SHEEP has been overwhelmingly positive. "Zema's BLACK SHEEP I truly believe is one of this year's top releases. Been spinning it a lot the past week, and my listeners have spoken via Live365's `Power Track' ratings with a resounding roar of approval." DJ Bahilman, Creation Steppin' Radio. A portion of the proceeds from this album will go to support the Jamaica National Children's Home Tegwyn Special Unit in Kingston for children with special needs (for more info contact sisirie@io.com or http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rasmikey) BLACK SHEEP is available at fine sources for reggae music including Ernie B's Reggae (www.ebreggae.com, 866/496-5474 toll free) and Amazon.com. Everybody was sleeping on the bus going through but we stopped at a truck stop where we refreshed ourselves in the early morning. The truck stops are quite interesting for us because sometimes we don't get any time to shop for our family and friends so at the truck stops, we can pick up little things along the way. We reached St. Louis where we were able to freshen up because sleeping in the hotel and sleeping on the bus are different. When sleeping on the bus while it's moving, you rest but you really don't sleep. So we were glad to get to the hotel in St. Louis. The show in St. Louis was kept at a place called Casa Loma which they say is 80-100 years old. It's a nice place but in a rough part of town. The show had about 500 people and was a good show. The people were very receptive to the music. The line-up began with Dean Fraser & the Jah Messenjah Band with Mr. Copeland Forbes as the mc - everyone was in fine form. As I've said repeatedly, as the tour goes on, the band and everyone gets better. Each performance is better and better. Next we headed to Chi Town. Chicago is always a special place for us because of the friends we have up there but also because of the love that we receive form the people. The House of Blues always does their thing very well - their whole structure is very well done. The show in Chicago was a fantastic show. I was able to perform all of my songs. And thanks to Brother Mike Beal, "Exalt Jah" was well-received there too. I see that he has been doing his work. He gave me some books from Frontline Distribution, the publisher of "Rastafari Speaks," a bi-monthly magazine, as well as lots of literature about Rastafari. The Rastafari books that Brother Mike gave to me are very important to me because as I've said, we take time out before every show to read and deliberate and they help put us in the mood to deliver the message of Rastafari. The energy in Chicago was magnificent. And I can truly say that Chi Town is really a vibes city. Members of the Nation of Islam were there as well to lend their support along with people from all walks of life. We left for Columbus in the morning. Columbus is an interesting place. It's the second time I've been there. The first time I went with Junior Kelly and Luciano. But it seems as if they have a very good reggae scene down there. The promoter Carl was very good, as usual, at taking care of every aspect of the business. We were to do some signings at Roots Records but we arrived late so we couldn't do it so we had to just save that until after the show. The venue, the Brickyard in Columbus, is a very good venue - very nice and very big with nice back stage and on-stage areas. When we went to the venue, the place was corked and full of people. It was good to see so much people gathering on this night to enjoy themselves. The show itself , as I keep saying, gets better and better each night starting wonderfully with the Jah Messenjah Band followed by Dean Fraser who was fantastic, Mikey General and than last but not least, the Messenger himself. The show was the bo-omb! It just goes to show that reggae music is a healing music. A lot of people from Cincinnati and Cleveland came down for the show. Cincinnati is a Rasta town so a lot of the Rasta people came down. It was really a good vibration - a celebration of roots and culture. Big up Roots Records Promotions for a job well done! In Columbus, after the show, we signed autographs - Luci signed at least 100. We try to make time after the show to sign autographs and interact with the people because they have given us so much. And we gladly return that energy and love that they have given us. We than went to the Midwest Reggae Festival just outside Cleveland. It was a ve-ery good show. This is the first festival we have done so far on this route and it was good to see the vast array of things that were on sale and the large amount of people that were there. When we went to the venue, the bus got stuck on the grass. It seemed like it was too heavy so they had to get a tractor to pull it out. But when we hit the stage, it was an experience and a half. They said that where we played was Amish country and we could definitely feel that old century charm within the whole vibes. It was a beautiful place with a river running alongside the venue. The show was an all day event. There was no big stage light so they had to finish when the sun went down. The change from an outside venue to an inside venue seemed to put an extra vibe of energy into the Jah Messenjah musicians. Everyone was clicking from the start of the show - Dean Fraser, myself, Luciano. I performed "Exalt Jah" which was well received by the people along with other favorite songs. Luciano was awesome. Rain was falling yet the people stood up during his performance which was the first time I had seen it done in Amercia. Ras Carl was there too. I recorded some jingles with him - he wanted almost all the songs from "Exalt Jah." His wife is a bit sick so he called her from the festival and we prayed for her. When we were leaving, the bus got stuck again. We had no hotel so we had to drive straight to Minnesota which is where we are now. I'm just getting ready now to go on this show tonight. It's at a club called The Cabooze so we're looking forward to it as we've never played there before. ONE LOVE, ONE HEART, ONE MIND, ONE SPIRIT, Tchiya Amet [10]------------------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------- >From Mushiya Felecia Strickland (#1667) Subject: Inner Visions - Rocks Bethlehem PA - Massive Crowds Date: Tue, 12 Aug 2003 21:17:50 EDT From: MOJAMAICA@aol.com Inner Visions doing what they do best, satisfying Reggae fans world wide, with their sweet harmonies and electrifying, thrilling stage performances. First and foremost give thanks and praises to the most High Creator JAH. for making, Inner Visions second year, U.S. Tour possible and an early success. Second, give thanks to all those dedicated fans, promoters, radio DJ's and other Reggae Artist who are throwing in their support for the Inner Visions band "Street corner Musicians tour." Your light of Love was ever so apparent in Bethlehem, PA at the Musikfest Friday, August 8th, 2003. The attendance for the Inner Visions concert on the Tropical Stage was massive, north, south, east and west of the venue as nothing but a sea of people. You would have thought that the sea had opened up and allow for a Throng of Inner Visions fans to enter. It was an amazing sight, the crowd stretched for as far as the eyes could see, even from as up high as the stage sat. Jah blessed for sure. This site so amazed Jupiter from the stage that at one point when Grasshopper was talking to the audience, Jupiter was taking pictures of the crowd, from stage top. Inner Visions put on the best show ever. They gave the audience, a little bit of this and a little bit of that and at the conclusion, the crowd still wanted more. Which ended only after three encores and completely sold out their new release "Street corner Musicians" and "The Spiritual Dancer CD." It was definitely a night full of the spirit of JAH. Inner Visions One Love vibe obviously touched the hearts of the massive, the message continues on. Ras Paul, my Jamaican brother, one of the two lead singers with Inner Visions and master percussionist, was in rare form. The people could not get enough of him; one singer Youssou later said that he was completed enthralled in Ras Paul's performance. Ras Paul has an illuminating presence, Rasta man is he, proves the old saying to be true, that you can take the Jamaican out of Jamaica, but you can never remove Jamaica from the man. Jamaican attitude (true to Reggae Roots), style (flair) and culture truly shine through in Ras Paul. I was observing Ras Paul performance, dancing, singing and playing EVERY instrument on his table and never missing a beat. I can honestly say Ras Paul Samms, makes my heart ever so proud that he is my brother, both Rasta and Jamaican. (smile). You have not lived until you have heard Inner Visions, do their Lovers Reggae melodies, Man, Grasshopper I.V glue (Philip Pickering) can deliver a Reggae Love song, so powerful it can melt your shoes. A young lady from the Audience said " if she took Grasshopper home each night to sing for her, she can quit taking the sleeping pills for insomnia"! His sound is so sweet, so soothing he takes you to another world one that is peaceful and calm. I myself, certainly understood where this young lady was coming from, as I listened to Grass sing the song, "I need you now for more than just an hour" my mind ventured to Jamaica, St. James, Mobay's popular night spot Downtown Barnett St. The Keg, where every Wednesday night, rooftop is Vintage night. So yes, Inner Visions has this extraordinary ability to reach out and move you mentally, all in the name of Reggae. (smile) Jupiter, Bass guitar playing is more powerful than ever and for the first time, I was able to concentrate on his singing and I still say, like his brother Grass, he has a sweet voice that moves in range and decorate that of Ras Paul's and Grasshoppers. Making Inner Visions what they are today, the sweetest, most consciously disciplined, well-rounded Reggae groups out there today! To put extra spice on this ensemble is Spikie the 2nd keyboardist. His voice is like an angels breath, when he sings you can tell he delivers from the heart, it's like a deep breath of fresh clear air, they all harmonize so elegantly together as if, this is the way it has been from creation. The main attraction was the two new members of the group, Akiba and Aswad, Drummer and Keyboardist. For a couple young men who have ONLY been playing 9 MONTHS! Is amazing! Their delivery is MORE than PERFECT! It is a testament to the teacher, their father Grasshopper, to keep that heart beat in the music and providing good Cool Reggae Rhythms! Yes, Inner Visions are definitely what some young Artist out of New York said "The Real Deal!". You just bring the tea to the table and Inner Visions will sweeten it. Providing you with a full package, the sweetest, coolest roots reggae music on the circuit. Not to mention the sexiest Rasta/men alive! Check them out in an area near you. www.innervisionsreggae.com Special Thanks to the Band Henry Turner Jr. and Flavor and Kelly Anderson, based out of Louisiana, for coming out and supporting the Inner Visions show on Saturday. One Love! Also, for the DJ's that came out of New York, Jersey, Maryland etc. Friday night. It was very nice to meet you guys!
