PLEASE! Date: Friday, August 01, 2003 5:28 AM From: "Tom Pearson" Greetings all! In recent days I have seen a marked increase of submissions for our newsletter "Wha Gwaan in RAW?" that do NOT follow the guidelines suggested, and which have been announced many times. I will REPEAT! Wha Gwaan in RAW? is a strictly TEXT-BASED newsletter. Since we must send out to members of varying computer capabilities, it is necessary to restrict submissions to TEXT ONLY. That means no graphics, color, sound, bells or whistles. No attachments! Anything sent with the above-mentioned extras will be returned to the sender, and WILL NOT BE INCLUDED in WGIR Also, today I received at least four messages submitted in HTML format. Now I realize how cool such announcements can be, but unfortunately, none of those extras (i.e. bolding, italics, underlining, etc) will show up in WGIR, and before I can send a message to Eric for inclusion in WGIR, I have to go through and delete all those commands. That means deleting every
,  , , etc. This is a very time consuming task, and one which I am simply no longer able to do. I have NO idea how messages are sent in HTML, I just know we can't receive them. If you are sending a message in HTML, I will, from this moment forward, return it to you, and ask you to re-send the message in basic no-frills text. So the basic rule for WGIR submissions is: TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT and NOTHING ELSE! Thanks Tom #33 [2]------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------- >From The Jethro Jeremiah Band (#1700) Subject: The Jethro Jeremiah Band #1700 Date: Wed, 6 Aug 2003 00:00:08 EDT From: DLArnspiger@aol.com Branching out: Friday, August 8, 2003 9:30 p.m. Viva Monterey 414 Alvarado Street Monterey, CA Free show! 'Committed,' features original material by this multi-talented artist who not only sings and composes but also plays, produces and arranges the works for this album. The high quality production also earned 'Committed' worldwide distribution from top record company Platinum Records. The album also features great talents such as, Sly Dunbar, Chevelle Franklyn, Dean Fraser and many more. It is very clear that this ministry is of the Lord. Wayne states that his influences come from his experience of God's goodness. His mission is to leave his music for all generations to be uplifted as King David's Psalms do for him. **SONG BY SONG REVIEW** This album opens with the title track, a modern roots/lover's rock style tune similar to the sounds of Luciano or Bushman. 'Committed' has a strong rhythm with very powerful lead and background vocals. Wayne speaks of different trials and tribulations common in life, but states that because 'Committed' is the secondproject for Jamaican native Wayne Stoddart. Wayne was born in Kingston Jamaica, but then later moved with his father to the country in Trelawny where he grew up. His musical influences came in his early years from his father's large collection of musical genres as well as growing up in his home church. Wayne started singing at a very early age and continued being a showman throughout school, and singing with his brother Steve under the name 'The Stoddart Brothers.' In high school, Wayne was quite the local star and in college, he formed his first group, a male quartet. Through his home church, Mountain View New Testament Church of God, Wayne formed the gospel group Dynamis. Wayne's first album 'Fulfillment' was produced with this group as a church project. Later they were nominated as best performing gospel band in the Jamaica Music awards for that album. [7]------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------- >From Mushiya Felecia Strickland (#1667) Subject: Daddy Roots -London Tour Date: Thu, 7 Aug 2003 06:21:33 EDT From: MOJAMAICA@aol.com Greetings in the name of the most High Jah! Much has been written about the Reggae road warriors, Mikey Dread the original Jamaican Rasta Reggae Road Warrior, Inner Visions Reggae Warrior Kings of the Caribbean and Luciano Jah messenger. Daddy Roots (aka Wayne Brooks) of Anguilla, BWI should justly qualify to this Reggae Road Warrior Roster. Daddy Roots is currently touring England from June to August 2003 along with the Mad Professor. His performance will be a treat to the Europeans as he again is one Reggae Artist that is much better live than a CD can ever give you. So check him and watch what I say, he will definitely be the Reggae Artist to watch for long lasting Reggae works. For those of you who are not familiar with Daddy Roots (yes another RAW member)Daddy Roots is the young Rastaman from the very Tiny Island of Anguilla. His mannerisms and sound, will put you in the mind of Peter Tosh. When I listened to his cut "Magar Goat" from the "Love and Honor" CD. It reminds me of Peter Tosh's song "Magar dogs." Daddy Roots is just a down to earth young Rastaman, he is a pleasure to interview and the audience just love him up!. "If it was in my power I would send you sunshine." This is a statement that Daddy Roots made to us, during the bitter cold of winter here in Dallas, showing his caring nature. When asked about himself, he simply said he's at Peace with himself, when asked who he looked up to and give credit to his existance, he said "it is JAH the creator I give credit to." He certainly falls in the meek and humble catergory with Inner Visions. A fan commented to us that Daddy Roots is well rounded in the Roots like Mikey Dread. Mikey being a powerful presense in Reggae long before the World knew anything about Reggae, the Reggae sound was a Jamaican yard sound, was majorly introduced to the world through Mikey Dreads program in Jamaica at JBC called "Dread at the Controls". Daddy Roots love of JAH certainly shines clearly through his lyrics, concious they are and true to the Roots. He also has the culture awareness of what it truly means to be a Rasta, a true Rastaman as Tunde Obazee would say "with no apologies". Tunde definitely being Peter Tosh's brother live and direct. Daddy Roots has the aura of Peter but in a different way than Tunde's. It safe to say that Peter Tosh teachings live on in varied ways in many artist, only a few like Tunde and Daddy Roots, truly touch on the essence of who Peter Tosh really was. We here in the Dallas have had the pleasure to get to know Daddy Roots this past year. Daddy Roots has something very special that you can't quite put your finger on, just today as I was listening to his song taken from the "All Here Now" CD., titled "Know who your friends are". There is a sweet message always in his music, soothing to the sould. He has a unique voice that will transcend any time line. So keep your eyes on Daddy Roots, the Island of Anguilla has produced a native son that will surely go a long way in Reggae. Our wholesale sale price is now $5 per copy for our full length CDs plus shipping August 1st – August 31st. We thank everyone who have contacted us this year for touring possibilities for TDC, Shepard, Mark Ice, Buckshot, Jockey Ryder, Englishman and the Killa-Fonz. Super Black is now on tour in Europe with Barry Brown. The Heptones is now available for booking also. Now that our foundation is as solid as a rock, we are using this year (our first real marketing year) to promote ourselves worldwide and especially in the US, this way whenever we are called to perform, or decide to promote our own shows in those areas, we will have an audience and fans which in turn will be a plus for our promoters, to do this we have embarked on a most ingenious marketing strategy throughout the US that have been reaping much success. We have been contacting upwards of 400-500 females in each state in the US, Canada and a few Islands that will be spreading the word about BLR, so don’t be surprise if your next-door neighbor ask you about us. So far we are in Ohio (alphabetically) and hope to revisit these areas again soon to increase the number of people spreading the word. Anyone interested in booking any of the artistes on the BLR label for next year, please feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, in the mean time we will be marketing these artist worldwide through out the various medias until show time. Even though we now know where 90% of all clubs, radio station, record stores and distributors are worldwide, it would be kind of those businesses that contacted us in the past to keep us current with their contact info, thank you. To all those 1-Love people that have requested our Promo Materials and are giving them a spin, we truly appreciate all your support, and thank you for the confidence in us; you have made a wise decision and we have much more wicked music coming your way and will stick with you to the end. To all the people who have requested our materials and have them sitting gathering dust, please don’t let our hard earned dough go to waste and don’t get left out from the all the wicked tracks to come, all play list are most welcome. We haven’t been getting much challenges for sound clash lately, but we are always available for the challenge, feel free to call and book a date with us, and when we come we mean serious business. We are the poor peoples sound so we spin a lot of the wickedest up and coming artist, vintage rub-a-dub, conscious music, poisonous specials, the toughest roots and culture, and some of the hottest dancehall selections from BLR and others. We do not brain wash the youths with name brands, fads and trends so don’t expect that from the Black Liberty Sound, because like they always say, a mind is a serious thing to waste, and in order to conquer a nation you have to start with the youths, so we keep this in minds at all times and always strive to elevate the youths them mind with conscious music and some of the wickedest selections. “THE WAY TO FREEDOM IS THROUGH WISDOM AND WE ARE THE MUSICAL LIGH” For all those who have an ear we say, “The internet is a serious thing to waste” 1-Love!
