Date: Wed, 03 Dec 2003 06:50:48 -0500 From: Nan Lewis Reggae Ambassadors Worldwide www.reggaeambassadors.org RAW Board Decides to Issue Separate Communications on Board Meetings, Discussions and Votes Tumon Bay, Guam USA December 3, 2003 - - The Board of Directors of Reggae Ambassadors Worldwide (RAW) unanimously decided to issue separate e-mail communications to the (online) RAW membership to keep members up-to-date on Board meetings, discussions and votes. This decision was discussed, motioned for a vote, and passed by the Board in direct response to RAW members expressing an increased interest in keeping abreast of the process and actions of the Board of Directors. Board communications will be also issued by Tom Pearson (RAW #33), Executive Director, through posts in "Wha Gwan In RAW?," the online RAW newsletter, and to the RAW Forum. In this spirit, the Board would like to inform its membership that recent Board discussions and decisions have included the election of Kyle Russell (RAW #238) to the position of Assistant Executive Director; the decision to alter the Board of Directors' page on the web site, www.reggaeambassadors.org, to include a separate section for Executive Board members (in addition to Board of Directors' members), and to change Papa Pilgrim's "biography" on the web site to the official RAW obituary that was released to the media, thus letting web site visitors know of his passing. If members have questions about this new policy, please feel free to e-mail Kyle Russell at ReggaePR@aol.com or Nan Lewis (RAW #72) at nanlewis@bellsouth.net. -Nan Lewis (RAW #72) Board of Directors [2]------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------- >From Nancy Lewis (#72) Subject: Board Announcement: What's on the Docket 12/03/03... Unfortunately I can't add to his list (except for Chuck Foster #128 who writes the most comprehensive Reggae review in The Beat) because I JUST got the issue on Culture yesterday, and probably won't get this issue mentioned for another 6 weeks. Snail mail to Guam is slow! Tom #33 .... Date: Wed, 3 Dec 2003 23:02:53 EST From: MJKuelker@aol.com Subject: R.A.W. RAW people in The Beat Greetings, folks. RAW's presence in the new edition of The Beat is certainly felt. In addition to co-founder and regular columnist Ras Rojah Steffens' intriguing piece, there is a good, long article on Nasio Fontaine by my radio partner, Professor Skank, as well as a concise and moving remembrance of Papa Pilgrim by Nan Lewis. In each case, RAW members are stepping out in front and informing people in the reggae community about people and things that matter. I'm not familiar off-hand with whoever else might be in RAW who writes for The Beat, so if I forgot someone, please let us know. >From St. Louis, Michael Kuelker RAW 1190 [4]------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------- >From Reggae Russ (#19) Subject: R.A.W. Date: Wed, 03 Dec 2003 18:13:33 -0500 From: Nan Lewis Forwarded as a favor to George Pond... Nancy..Greetings!! I figured i would drop a line and let you know that a Reggae Ambassadors Worldwide artist "Ras Alan" will be performing a few shows in the Southeast this coming week. Thursday the 4th of DEC., He and Brother Bob will be at the Neiborhood Theater in Charlotte, NC. and Tuesday, the 6th of DEC. he will be performing a solo show at Eddies Attic in Atlanta, GA. My name is George Pond and i represent a band from North Carolina called "Snake Oil Medicine Show" I have been a fan of Ras Alan for many years, and recently we have had the opportunity to perform together at a number of events. S.O.M.S. is a band with Rasta Heart, that plays world music with a family vibe. My younger brother plays the Banjo, and my wife plays the violin, i play the bass/guitar. We play with a group of amazing musicians, and have been in the reggae-vibe for a while. Ras Alan plays his own original music, "Appalachian Reggae". I believe that you may know him and his family. I am trying to spread the word about his shows, so i figured i would pass this info on to you. We (Ras Alan and SOMS) also just recorded an album, which we hope to release this spring, in Atl. at Tree Sound Studio. The proposed title of the collaboration is "Bluegrass Tafari" for more info on Ras Alan and his tour contact Deanna at Red Pepper Records. Record-breaking airplay on American hip-hop radio followed, and the success of "STAGE ONE," Sean Paul's 2000 smash debut album, established him as VP Records' best-selling current artist. With his current triple platinum release "DUTTY ROCK," Sean moved from strength to greater strength, ratcheting his sound straight up to the heights. Radio success in America, helped Sean's reputation in the U.S. hip-hop and R&B community explode, leading to collaborations with Busta Rhymes, Jay-Z, DMX, The Neptunes, Clipse, Mya, and Beyonce, among others. "A lot of hip-hop artists have been linked to dancehall," Sean told the New York Times. "It always has been, and now people can see for themselves." I wish to submit news of our work here in Dublin, Ireland. For the first time in the Long History of "Black Echoes" Radio Programme 21years this year (the longest running Jamaican Music Programme in Ireland) and the longest running Reggae Label Trojan Records, RAW has finally got a mention, as a proud member of RAW I was able to state my RAW number on the sleevenotes. I worked on the new Double CD "Me Nah Worry" by veteran singer Denzil Dennis. The Sleevenotes, A lot of the Music, most of the scans of labels and some photos where submitted by me. The Sleevenotes are up on the Trojan site as Denzil is Artist of the Month for November. This will change soon though. http://www.trojan-records.com/ The reason I am writing this to you is I do not know where to put this info for RAW members to check it out. I feel its a small piece of History. Many thanks for your time, One Love, Miss Pat (Lacey) RAW#1590 Producer "Black Echoes" 103.2FM Dublin, Ireland. *********************************************************************** In the abundance of water, the fool is thirsty Forward the Reggae Vibe...Every Time !
