DJ Vermont who spins a weekly reggae and world music show Fridays from 5-8pm on WWPV 88.7FM. Check out our station info and web cast here: http://personalweb.smcvt.edu/wwpv.html I recently previewed Inner Vision's New CD "Street Corner Musicians", and played a few tracks from it on my show. All I can say is that these guys ARE reggae-straight up reggae. While other reggae performers might in cooperate other styles into the genre (such as Bob Marley and the Wailers with their hints of early American R+B, and more recently, New York reggae group John Brown's Body with their hints of funk and roots rock), the Inner Visions reggae band stay true to the classic reagge rythmns and one-drop drumming that has become a totally familiar sound recognized around the world. Just listen to my favorite tracks "No More Tears to Cry", "My Father's Prayer", the title track, plus the interesting "Kindred Journey" with solid nyabingi drumming. Once you slip this CD into your player, I think the chances are petty good that you'll say: "Now that's what I call reggae". This group of Virgin Island roots men have just as much of the vibe as Jamaicans do and if this album is any indication of Inner Vision's work to come, then I think it's safe to say that the vibe will live on for as long as these guys decide to keep playing. This has been my own "inner vision" into a pure roots album. Addendum: Inner Visions: Grasshopper (Philip Pickering) (St. John), Ras Paul (Paul Samms) (Kingston, Jamaica), Ras Jupiter (Alvin Pickering )(St.John), Jr. Pickering brothers -Akiba Pickering (St. John), Aswad Pickering (St. John). Provides sounds of Island magic, Virgin Islands and Jamaica collectively. www.innervisionsreggae.com JAH blessings Mushiya Mushiya Felecia Strickland RAW #1667 Jobe Enterprises P.O. Yes, after 15 years of Strictly Reggae Dedication, and an Intricate member of KNON 89.3 Irie FM, Reggae DJ Posse; giving us just that "Strictly Reggae" with "no apology". Yes, the man that has been deemed the most out spoken man in Reggae since Mutabaruka and Peter Tosh, has left the air. For years he's invited us into his Reggae home by saying "From my Back yard, to your Back yard." No longer will we hear him boldly talk about the Politricks, the wishy washy, the fence sitters and in the same breath say " I say these things with ABSOLUTELY NO Apologies." Tunde was an inspiration to us all, his no non-sense approach to Reggae, left us all applauding and hailing up this man with the Large Rasta Heart, dedicated to the cause of spreading the message of JAH, through Strictly Reggae Music. This garnered him the title of our most controversial and respected member of the KNON 89.3 Irie FM DJ Posse here in Dallas. Known worldwide as the True African Child, as the Warrior of the Word as The man who put the CODE in his Band, Code Red. He has many titles, but this is just one unique individual, Tunde Obazee. I was told by one, if you step to Tunde and step honestly, expect to be respected, if you step to Tunde dishonestly expect to be corrected, he takes his cue from the Almighty and he does so with no apologies. He iss and always will be a Messenger of JAH, in Strictly Reggae. Tunde, a True Soldier of JAH, his presence will certainly be missed worldwide! I once told Ras Paul of Inner Visions that he was my second Hero, he in himself is a very spiritual Rasta man, with the meekest of demeanor, he asked me who was my first, I said Tunde Obazee, with his words of wisdom and boldness in speech, with his words he causes us to think; Why we are; Who we are and Where we are in the scheme of things. Tunde the Rebel WITH A CAUSE is my number one Hero! So with mixed feelings, I am both sad of the departure, but happy for the his new beginnings. With that said: I am happy to announce that Tunde has taken a more active position, even though we are heart broken to have him leave the Reggae format, we are estactic, of his new position: as the National Programming Director for KNON Radio Dallas/Ft. Worth. He will also act as PRODUCER/HOST of a national talk show entitled " EMPOWERMENT RADIO" to start airing Monday morning December 8, 2003 from 7am -8am CST. Other radio stations nationally will carry the show at different times, so please check listing in the various areas.
