As other things go we had an amazing Collective Potluck this week and re-set intention for those to get involved. As a collective we have to bring a process for those to participate and be upgraded to projects. A forum will be built on website for the external community to use and communicate, we will have our next Collective planning meeting Jan 11th and then we will organize a Community Potluck for the 25th of January 2004 in SF or East Bay. One of the concerts was at University of he West Indies in Kingston on Bob's 58th birthday in 2003. It featured reggae artists Luciano, Abijah, Ernie Smith, Denroy Morgan, Swade, Mackie Conscious and I'ngel Chanta and was broadcast live on the RJR Radio via The Richie B Show, Jamaica's most popular radio program. (The crime indexes declined in the months following our these concerts.) We are planning a similar concert this year--on Bob's 59th birthday, February 6, 2004. The JCDC, the branch of the Jamaican government responsible for promoting Jamaican culture, will be co-venturing the concert with us. We will invite the speakers and performers and, as we did the last two years, once again we will forward the challenge of Jamaica being the first society to heal itself with individual acts of One Love (unconditional love, agape) and forgiveness. RJR Radio has committed to air the concert again this year and many of the conscious reggae artist have agreed to appear if they are on the island. This includes Luciano, Abijah, Ernie Smith, Culture, Judy Mowat, LMS, Morgan Heritage, and others. We plan to invite many more in the weeks ahead. Also, several well-known Jamaicans, who have previously endorsed our efforts, will be speaking. This include the Governor General Sir Howard Cooke, Dr. Barry Chevannes from UWI, Rev. Devon Dick of the Boulevard Baptist Church, Rev. Rawle Tyson, Bobby Stephens of the Port Royal Authority and others. The concert will be free and held at Emancipation Park, the beautiful new stage/park in downtown Kingston. After this concert, during the 12 months leading up to Bob's 60th birthday on February 6, 2005, we are planning a series of other concerts throughout the island to further encourage a national healing. Julia and I are simply the catalyst and organizers. Individual Jamaicans, joining the nationally-recognized healers, will lead the effort. With this message coming forward from well-known people within the culture--from reggae artists, the JCDC, the Governor General and church leaders--the chances of success are greatly increased. Jamaica is the only place on Earth today that people everywhere, through their love of reggae music, look to as a focus of love and healing. Even religious capitals such as Jerusalem, the Vatican and Mecca can no longer make that claim. Jamaica is the headquarter, and more importantly, the "heartquarter," of One Love. And for this every Jamaican can take credit and pride, as well as full responsibility for the importance of this message in today's world. for more info on this event and their efforts: Email: roskind@boone.net Website:www.onelovepress.com Events in San Francisco ***1 SEEDS Friday, December 18th at the Urban Forage, 254 Fillmore @ Haight, SF, 5pm - 10pm This week at Seeds: Holiday Chi (8:00 - 8:45) Stephanie Provines is a Bay Area feng shui consultant practicing in a Buddhist-based tradition. We at PSM would like to wish everyone a peaceful holiday season, and a positive New Year. This is the last "News on the Net" for 2003, and what a great year it has been for us. With releases like Rocker-T's "More Luv" and biL's "Magic Thumper" and most recently working with Poetz4Peace on "A Pair Of Olive Leaves", indeed this has been an amazing year for PSM. So on to the December's news... First off, there is a full page feature article about Positive Sound Massive and Stand Out Selector, and his part in Poetz4Peace, in this week's San Francisco Weekly. It is available anywhere in the San Francisco "bay area" and reaches about 150,000 people. The article is also available online at: http://sfweekly.com/issues/2003-12-17/music2.html/1/index.html Please feel free to check it out. It is a great look into SOS's career with a nice focus on Poetz4Peace. As many of you in the Bay know, it is not easy to get this type of exposure for a project like Poetz4Peace, never mind an "Indy" label or producer, Nuff Respect to Garrett Kamps, the editor at the Weekly who placed the story, and of course to Darren Keast for writing it. Also, big respect to Akim who took the photo. In other Poetz4Peace news, there are a handful of events happening for this project in early 2004. The entire group, sans SOS, will be doing an interview and a live performance for German ARD TV on the 10th of January, 2004 at Pissouri Columbia Beach Resort in Cyprus. The program will be shown on 18th of January, 2004 in Germany and rebroadcast across the world via Satellite TV. Also in the works is an interview on "Greek TV", a US cable TV show that features anything and everything "Greek"... The Producer really likes Poetz and said that he will not only do a nice interview but also show some "never before seen in the USA" live clips of Poetz4Peace performing in Cyprus this fall. The interview is planned for early January and should air sometime in late January. Many other amazing Poetz4Peace announcements to come in the new year... Also, the CD, "A Pair of Olive Leaves" is available online with our one click ordering for your holiday gift giving needs @ http://psmrecordings.com/olive.html Give a little piece of peace for the Holidays!! Rocker-T has a new 12" EP called "Retrospect" due out on the market the first week in February. This is a joint venture between Positive Sound Massive Recordings and graphic artist Owen Maigret's Conquering Lion Sounds label. Many folks know Owen from his cover art for many well known and top selling house records. This new 12" features 3 of Rocker's songs from Time's Up, our 1997 label compilation, and a tune never before available on vinyl, "Jah the Only One", from More Luv. The EP also features a brand new jump-up tune called "Sensi inna de Club", which was recorded in Amsterdam a few years ago, but has never been available in any format until now. This 12" is a must have for any and all Rocker-T fans. In early 2004 we will also release a companion to this 12" with some other "hard to find" Rocker-T tracks. In the spring, PSM and CLS will offer "Retrospect" the full-length CD, which will feature all of the tracks on both the 12" EPs, and a few new tunes as well. Both of these EP releases feature custom designed covers, and are pressed on high-grade vinyl. The first "Retrospect" EP will be available for a limited time starting on January 15th through PSM online and at Ernie B's Reggae and other fine distributors and record stores. Rocker-T "Retrospect" EP [PSM/CLS001-1] Street Date- February 1st, 2004 Side One- War Pan Pause featuring Jamalski Tru Freedom Fighters featuring Jamaski Side Two- Original Tru Ganjaman (the Time's Up mix) Sensi inna de Club (never available before) Jah The Only One (never available on Vinyl) Rocker has just returned from Europe for two shows in Oslo, Norway and, of course, his 8th straight Cannabis Cup. He performed with a local selecta in Norway and the vibes and the crowd were great. In Amsterdam, as usual, Rocker performed a set with Cannabis Cup Band. He also DJed a few nights and did a little soundsystem show with Jamalski. It was the first time that Rocker and Jamalski sparred in almost 5 years. Respect everytime to Jamalski, who has been living in Paris for the past few years... Keep Forwarding!!! Although Rocker is taking some time off to work on a few album projects there are a few little tours planned for early 2004. From January 14th through January 21st Rocker-T will be performing in Florida with labelmate Wookie J. for 5 shows. Check out our website for up to the minute show information in Jacksonville, St. Auggies, Tampa, and even Miami. We will have the tour dates and venues posted on the website in a few days. Rocker will also be touring in Colorado in early February. Be on the lookout for RT dates from the 1st until the 10th in cities like Boulder, Denver, Ft. Collins, Steamboat, and Colorado Springs... We will post those dates on the website as soon as they are confirmed. Finally, biL has decided to do a follow up to it's "Magic Thumper" Record Release Party. The party was such a success, and so many folks called and e-mailed saying that they missed the show, that they felt they should do a "Return of biL" to IL Pirita on Saturday, January 24th, 2004. For those of you who made it out to see this band and it's wall of sound and visual assault, this show will be extra special as they are adding SF's own Not For Not as the opening act. Although the two groups share 2 members, the musical dynamic between the groups will be amazing to behold. So mark your calendars now if you are in the bay area... or will be in late January.... Date: Sun, 14 Dec 2003 14:00:18 -0500 From: Alexander Bonilla Saludos desde Colombia al amigo Tom Pearson! Como esta mi buen amigo? Espero que muy bien siempre, si seqor! Greatest is always to forward a message to you, as i know for sure, you are too busy man, so i don't want to take much of you valuable time. Let me say that i feel very happy & positive to celebrate our 5th year of apreciatted RAW affiliation, so now; once again, i would like to express my deepest RAWspect and knowledge for our international organization, specially for bringing us the keys to get a real matter of communication, learning, sharing, growing, and most interesting: spending righteously time at developing many projects that freely allow spreading the reggae music and its culture itself. Of course, through these past years, i've been (according to our limited possibilities here) closely familiar to meet (not much to participate) many interesting topics and thoughs exposed by RAW Members Worldwide concerning all-RAW activities going and coming around the organization in general. These RAW-Reggae subjetcs between members become truly fantastic things that openly let everyone to be able to understand what is RAW for. Serious Thing! I want to say "big thanks" to all these RAW Members for their fraternal friendship with us and let them know that we here in Colombia have been proudly growing little by little in the reggae field of promoting (as reggae music is not very popular here) but still having many difficults (economical & technical) in order to establish properly here a solid reggae local scene, so we ask for special support in that matter. We still working promoting reggae in our reggae site. Also we want to share with you good news about reggae music coming from Colombia. Yes, we here are getting ready to start promoting national reggae acts worldwide (reggae bands from Colombia) I hope very soon to let you know more details about this great project. Please we are now kindly asking you for your valuable help with some "inputs" about your well-known reputable promoters in USA, Booking Agents, and key-Contacts for events or festivals agents (like ROTR, SNWMF, etc) so we can have any chance to ask them for an application in order to including any reggae act coming from my country, specially in the prominent California reggae-arena. Of course we hope also to hear from these outside promotors or artists interested to touring in South America to let us know the related info, countries, tour dates for these events, etc, so we can try to coordinate with them (if possible) any special act for Colombia. At last but not less important is to let you know that we have put again reggae music back on air again. I ocassionally perform along with a good friend here a reggae radio show called "Rastafari" (94.5 FM - RCN La Mega Cartagena) We are about to fix some legal matters along with the radio station managers about the program, so we can make it official. Anyway the program is now on air and hope very soon to confirm its official status. I am very happy about that!!! [snip] Muchos respetos buen amigo!!! Gracias por todo! JAH Guide ... I just wanted to extend my most heartfelt thanks and good wishes to all of you for your support in the past year. I am overwhelmed at the amount of airplay and feedback that "Torchbearer" has gotten, and the full CD has yet to be released! At this point it looks as though the release is at least still a couple of months away, but we are making steady progress. I want to make sure that it is the best that it can be, so I'm taking my time. Be assured that when it's ready to go, you all will be the first to receive it. Thanks to those of you who reported back to "Acoustic Rainbow". That helps to let me know how far the song has reached. Everyone be safe and have a joyous holiday. (that is not a typo, over 600). It was spectacular to see and be amongst so many people from so many places coming out to celebrate together and enjoy a local band gone good. The attendance at over 600 people at the Catalyst - Santa Cruz (including RAW, well represented), just put you (Dubwize fans) and Dubwize into National recognition in the reggae industry. How does it feel to be famous?! It is absolutely incredible that a group of guys from the east side of Salinas, who simply wanted to remind people about the good qualities of life, and do it through music, just played and lead us to feel the love that was given to us as part of this life and to feel it with 600 people, and each one of us was part of the love that night. The music was spectacular as Dubwize delivered a 2+1/2 hour non-stop marathon of original Dubwize music. The opening band Firme was wonderful and they stole many hearts on this evening and you could feel their awesome vibe way out into the crowd. The night would have been perfect, but a newly hired management trainee at the Catalyst cut off Firme's set after only 45 minutes. He didn't understand they were invited by Dubwize and welcome to play longer. By the time we realized what was happening, it was too late to reconnect their gear. Firme was only smiles, and they truly are the heart of the earth. AND NOW WE WILL GO FOR PERFECTION: The Reggae Latin Explosion theme was and is so awesome, that Dubwize and fans and Firme will go for perfection and bring the party to a place that is known in the whole world, literally, for its most irie vibe and support of the finest life and earth causes. Plan now for the First Saturday Night in 2004 at the Ashkenaz in Berkeley. We will go for perfection and the finest gathering of people and music of all time - why not?!
