At our current level of listenership (over 40,000 a month), what with licensing fees, bandwidth etc. this will run $800+ a month if I take the opportunity to upgrade the stream to 128kbs. I am under no illusion of ever profiting at this serious hobby of mine but I'm not sure that I can subsidize it to the tune of nearly a thousand bucks a month either, so before I take the plunge I would like to hear from any RAW businesses that might be willing to purchase some cheap in-stream audio ad time (prices to be determined, but will definitely be below market rate). What I do will depend upon the response I get. However, I seem to have become one of the few stations in cyberspace that's streaming the music of RAW artists and I would like to keep doing so. I would be happy just recouping half of the costs with ad revenue, and I absolutely do not want to do it with pop-up ads etc. Going pro on Live365 would mean the only ads anybody would see or hear would be yours. Please, let me hear from you if you are interested. I can be reached at jreichle@scottsboro.org. I give thanks to Nancy Lewis (#72) who filled in while I was out of touch. And Big Up Eric Harris (#1418) who puts the newsletter in its final form. RAWspect due! A few guidelines for submission to "Wha Gwaan in RAW?" : 1) Send ALL items to me (Tom) directly at tap@kuentos.guam.net Do NOT send items directly to Eric, as he will then forward them to me anyway. 2) Submissions should be in plain text form. That means that NONE OF THE FOLLOWING can be forwarded in the news-letter graphics of any kind sound files HTML messages (this require a HUGE amount of editing to be acceptable by all) 3) Your Subject Header should be indicative of the subject of your message "for Wha Gwaan" is NOT an appropriate subject Header "Please post" is NOT an appropriate subject header "From JoeSchmo" is NOT an appropriate subject Header 4) ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS include your RAW membership number....PLEASE!!!!! 5) do not submit anything by REPLYING to or FORWARDING an earlier issue of Wha Gwaan in RAW? This also requires a huge amount of editing, which could be prevented by one or two simple selections on the sender's part. 6) Make sure your submission includes complete contact information if an announcement of an event, release, etc. Please include a snail mail address for off-liners. 7) Your submission will go out as it was sent in (with exceptions noted above), so make sure what you send in is what you want to go out. 8) Please give a minimum of three days advance time for time-sensitive info. 9) With a couple exceptions, DJ playlists will not be included in "Wha Gwaan in RAW?" The RAW Forum is a more appropriate place for posting playlists. 10) Having said all the above, RAW members are encouraged to include all news of Reggae runnings in your area.
