Date: Sun, 19 Oct 2003 14:11:42 -0700 From: molinus Give thanks, Andrew for creating a memorial page for R.A.W. Founding President, Papa Pilgrim (R.A.W. #1). I enjoyed reading the thoughtful entries of others' besides myself. We know you are busy working other deeds and I'm sure I speak for the massive in regards to apprecialove for your generosity of time and patience! It'd been a while since I visited the site. It is truly a valuable resource for anyone seeking truth in Reggae Music. I especially like the search feature to efficiently peruse the extensive RAW archives. I'm trying to remain brief. Huh!!! :-) This week I finished mixing the final track with Jawge on the upcoming. We've both been extrememly busy on other projects. He'll be back out with Fully Fullwood and Tony Chin for the Peter Tosh Celebration Tour starting Tuesday, October 28 in Santa Barbara at Coach House. Wednesday, October 29 in Studio City's Platinum Live and October 30 at Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach. details in Reggae Russ' Reggae Nucleus Southern California Reggae/Ska Calendar by Reggae Russ reggaeruss@aol.com Today at 5pm, Lee Jaffe and Roger Steffens will show unreleased home movies of Bob Marley and the Wailers in early 1973 at Skylight Books 1818 N. Vermont Wve in Hollywood. Admission is free. They will be signing their hard/soft cover copies of "One Love: Life with Bob Marley and the Wailers". I spent an hour or so in the same bookstore with my son.....one of the best!! (it's in Los Feliz) Well, to be honest, when I went to the Music Stack, the first thing I laid eyes on WAS the hard cover edition of "One Love" I mentioned earlier how beautiful it is. Now the soft cover is out!! Hard is always best. Lee wrote the most endearing tribute to Reggae Music Legend, Joe Higgs in the preface. Friday night was rejuvenating!! Thursday night, I burned the midnight oil laying down tracks with The Coaster Vocalist (since 1969) Founder of Cix Bits Blues Band and Hit Record Producer (32 Platinum Albums to credit), Carl Summers from Oklahoma City, OK. We created a funk oboe track. He's produced tracks for many, many hit songs in practiclly every genre of R&B/Rap and Hip Hop. More to come... Took the 22 mile scenic drive up to Malibu Inn from my home in Koreatown Friday evening. Juda * Starr Entertainment put on an excellent show to an enthusiastic following! The show opened with Quinto Sol's tight arrangements. I've seen them quite a few times now and I admire how well rehearsed and professional they consistently sound! Next out was Bonsai Tribe which featured the harmonium that helped make Augustus Pablo a legend. The audience was dancing from the start of the live music. After, followed Detour Posse in a full set of songs to open for Mikey Dread. It was "Rasta In Contol" in fullest force! http://www.mikeydread.com Santa Davis of Jamaica (drums), Buttons of U.K. and Jamaica (trombone and vocals), George Hughes, Jr (keyboards), Barry Capiaux (Tenor Sax), Stevie Verhault (guitar) Zebby (percussion) and Fabian Cooke on bass. Pure niceness!!!! Mikey Dread came out at 1:15 am and gave us all of his energy and love until 2:30 am when the club closed. Malibu Inn recently renovated and now in addition to an outstanding menu, irie entertainment it provides an aesthetically inspiring atmosphere. There was plenty of secured parking ($5) and the club was most accommodating throughout the entire night. Marjel McFadden (Paraiso Productions) and Diane Gowder (Mighty Diamonds) were there helping sell CD's and distribute flyers. The club built a beautiful oak bar which is ideal for displaying band merchandise. Reggae Roots will perform this Wednesday night, October 23 with Garth Dennis. Tickets under $20 at the door. All ages starts at 8pm - 2 am. http://www.malibu-inn.com Juda has booked some big shows these next two weeks With Tippa Irie and Isouljahs Friday, November 7 and Barrington Levy & Detour Posse Friday November 14 and Barrington Levy and Local Culture on Saturday Night, November 15. The Malibu Inn is located at 22969 Pacific Coast Highway (between Topanga Canyon and Cross Creek) For more info and show bookings (310) 960-2990. (866) 340 - BAND. The house was full of irie vibes. I feel five stars are deserved to Al (man in charge) and the crew for providing another cool venue for Roots Rock Reggae @ The Malibu Inn. There is also a majestic outdoor patio bar & grill available for lease to private parties....gorgeous! This afternoon I'm attending a surprise party for Macomie Williams' dad, he's 85 today! I know we'll wear out the soles of our shoes as her daughter calls the steps to all the latest dances! I want to make it to Los Feliz by 5 pm. Tight runnings... Forgot to mention what a surprise it was to hear from Buju when he came to LA to perform for Wyclef Jean's latest Release Party this month. He asked me to remind DJ's to play his two songs, "Maybe We Are" and Up Ye Mighty Race" from his latest album, "Friends For Life" (VP/Atlantic). These two songs contain crucial messages and guidance for humanity. The rest of the album is outstanding and contains no restricted label. Visit http://www.vprecords.com for more info. While in Chicago for a friend's cousin's wedding, I called Louis Satterfield. Louis is lead trombonist and bassist for Earth, Wind & Fire as well as hundreds of other groups and soloists. He is founding member of The Pharoahs. He's totally intrigued with the idea that I've taken oboe to new frontiers. He was featured on Martin Scorcese's "The Blues" on PBS a few weeks ago. He left me with these words for the massive : "Music is the force that brings people together spiritually, this is the most important thing to remember". Thank you RAW for providing the outlet in Papa Pilgrim's name we will carry the torch. Have a blessed day! Date: Sun, 19 Oct 2003 21:47:11 -0400 From: list@reggaecd.com Jackie Brown possesses one of the most identifiable voices to have graced the Reggae/Jamaican music scene. His string of 1970s chart-topping hits precedes him. Throughout the 80s & 90s Jackie has brought his music, through his live performances, to the USA, Canada, Brazil and England. In his first Brazilian tour in 2000, Jackie appeared to sold-out shows of starving fans. As the headline act Jackie pulled in 20,000 to 25,000 fans at each venue. This current album, his first official US release "I STILL LOVE YOU" has sold over 20,000 copies in Brazil where it was released in 1999. Produced by veteran reggae producer, Joe Gibbs, the album includes updated recordings of some of his number one hits and some impressive new tracks. A follow-up album "The Melody Of Jackie Brown: 20 Super Hits" is also in the wings. This seasoned performer is full of vigor and ready to take his music to the rest of the world. Date: Monday, October 20, 2003 2:58 AM POETZ4PEACE - EVENTS IN CYPRUS Greetings to all RAW Massive we have had a very busy week launching our debut CD "A pair of olive leaves" (Olive Tree Music). A week that included, 2 TV appearances, 3 newspaper interviews, 5 radio shows, a recording workshop, a DJ session and live gig. The DJ Session was the first reggae event of its kind in Cyprus, with guest from the USA, Positive Sound Massive's Stand Out Selector, alongside Haji Mike, Zeki Ali and The Roots Crew. The event was so successful that it looks like becoming a monthly happening at Treno in Nicosia. Our live show was at UN Day on Sunday 19th October, in Ledra Palace, a hotel located in the buffer zone, which has been empty since 1974 (except for the UN soldiers located there). Along with 12 bands and artists from both sides of the unwanted and unnatural 'green line' that divides Cyprus, we all showed how people can co-exist and make music together. The recording workshop, held on 18th October, facilitated by Stand Out Selector, was also an inspiring session, with youths from all over Cyprus recording and meeting for the first time. All in all, reggae people in Cyprus would like to thank RAW, because without our network forwarding the vibe in a world wide way, a lot of these events last week may never have happened. The links we all make are a testament to the dedicated works of Papa Pilgrim, who is with us itinually. Finally, all producers, remixers, musicians, poets, singers, DJ's , check www.peaceremix.com , join us and raise a voice against hatred and division. Download the samples and make your own remix, then upload this to the site. The best remixes will be featured on a version excursion CD to be released by Olive Tree Music in 2004.
