Old timer reggae heads say this is unprecedented in a single year, let alone a single summer. Six of the seven shows were sell outs. Dubwize also headlined their own Saturday night Reggae show, "Dubwize All Night" at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz, and they have headlined San Francisco's Pier 23 for seven consecutive months. The Ashkenaz wrote about Dubwize in 2003: "The most exciting and rapidly climbing reggae band in years". RAW people have come to Dubwize concerts and shared good times and brought their fine energies and spirits and expertise along and you have added so much to the Dubwize vibe. But not all RAW people have yet come, so without obligation, or pressure, we so strongly with such welcome arms and spirits encourage you to come and spend some moments, some musical moments, some moments of life with Dubwize. LIFE: 87 Billion dollars more to continue to fight a "Terrorist" enemy that we cannot see and whose budget is considerably less than a penny for each dollar we spend. For a very small part of only one billion, we could make peace with these people, make friends of them. Send the Dalai Lama and his crew to meet with them, with good reggae music, instead of ultimatums, followed by the biggest war machine ever assembled on the earth. But even if/when this administration/clan leaves office, they have assured conflict and fear into the future so that their businesses: weapons manufacture, country infrastructure rebuilding after wars, oil services, and life damaging drugs are assured well into the future, businesses that all require conflict to thrive. This clan uses fear to scare the people and then rob the people of their resources, as though it is to protect them. It is an oversimplification to characterize it as such, but it is simply a protection racket, where the clan makes the threat and creates most of the fear and then takes the people's money for protection. The scale is so large now in the world, that it can make us cry for a lifetime if we face it. But if we ignore it, its cloud still hangs over all of us. Reggae music and its people are hardly perfect, but they are trying and their messages are so good and so fine and so giving, and it is such a fine place to spend time, particularly when a cowardly twit, supported by a heartless and compassionless clan, is in charge of the most influential country in the world. The following quote may help us to see their devious strategy and understand what is happening. And though no solution is provided as to what to do about it, understanding what is happening may be an important step to moving our species towards activities that discard the heartless slobs and finally replace them with so many others available who have feelings of compassion for all people's on this earth. "But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and then denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country." Hermann Goering, Nazi (2nd ranking Nazi to Hitler) [8]------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------- >From Daniel Frankston (#495) Subject: Cape Fest 2004 - January 9-13 Date: Fri, 24 Oct 2003 11:17:15 -0700 From: Daniel Frankston The Cape Fest World Music Festival happening in Cape Town South Africa from January 9-13, 2004. Celebrating 10 years of democracy, this festival will include the following reggae artists: Macka B Ini Kamoze Misty in Roots Mutabaruka Caribbean Pulse Isaac Haile Selassie Humble Soul Ras Dumisani Prezident Brown Sons of Selassie Lions of Zion Yami Bolo The Fully Fullwood band Tony Moses - MC For more information go to: http://www.capefest.ontheweb.com/ ABOUT CAPE FEST '04: The theme of CAPE FEST WORLD MUSIC Festival 2004 is a Celebration of 10 Years of Democracy in South Africa. With Cape Fest 2004 we honour our leaders who dedicated their lives to bring freedom to our people. We chose the line-up because of the social message which inspired our leaders in the struggle against apartheid. Whether in exile in a foreign continent or fighting for freedom in Mother Africa, artists like Peter Tosh and Bob Marley motivated our leaders and our people with a message of revolution, human dignity and one love! A marketing analysis revealed the need for a music festival to represent South Africa internationally. We have a massive following of Reggae music from various communities. Cape Town, South Africa will host CAPE FEST WORLD MUSIC Festival, a five day musical celebration from 9 to 13th January 2004. With Table Mountain as a backdrop, a meeting place of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, the coastline of Mnandi resort will be the venue for an atmosphere that can only be experienced in Cape Town. Cape Fest is destined to become an annual event and the biggest festival in Africa. Endorsed by the Western Cape Tourism Board and the Cape Town Unicity, Cape Fest will be broadcast on radio and television to national and international audiences. With thirty six top South African and International bands Cape Fest brings a message of value to an audience form all over the world. Twenty African bands will come from different genres, including, Reggae, Hip-Hop and Kwaito. The objectives of Cape Fest are similar to those of our president Thabo Mbeki's "African Renaissance", to Unite Africa. We will unite Africa through our inheritance, our music and sharing the celebration of our ten years of democracy, In the new South Africa we have eleven official languages. Similarly Cape Fest embraces all our diverse cultures at one massive event! . Traditional menus and cultural cuisine local food stalls will provide nutrition and new experiences for our audience and performers. Vegetarian and organically grown fresh food will be available. . A trade fair where South Africans can showcase & sell products to local and international markets. . A market will draw attention to the wealth of art, entertainment and craft in Africa. . Exhibitions and performances of local fashion, drama and music are sure to make this a mind-blowing happening! . A fun-fair with special childcare facilities will allow parents to party while kids are entertained. An important focus of the show will be the promotion of HIV/AIDS awareness. The HIV-infected person has been subjected to horrendous discrimination which is unacceptable. Cape Town has not yet provided an original cultural approach to the issue of HIV/AIDS. Cape Fest 2004 aims at implementing new approaches. With a percentage of all ticket sales we plan to set up a safe house and support existing safe houses which assist children from the Cape Flats who are dealing with the crisis of AIDS and rape to come to terms with their ordeal. Through the exposure to a diversity of international culture and creativity we aim to encourage new solutions and thinking in the minds of the youth. An events schedule like this is sure to attract a large and varied audience. Hosting a festival of this magnitude, South Africa is once again leading the way, with Cape Town at the fore-front.
