(a) Dancehall is still reggae : 21% of the responses (b) Dancehall is a bit of both : 49% of the responses (c) Dancehall is not reggae : 30% of the responses A total of 43 responses were received. Thanks to all who participated! :) --- --- --- And thanks to those who added a comment to their response. The following thoughts were shared: - Sean Paul and others just copy Hip-Hop... - DanceHall is a Form of Reggae like Hip-Hop is Not R&B - It seems like Reggae, like Dancehall, has come to take on two meanings. There is a particular sound that developed after ska and rocksteady that is reggae, but there is also the tendency to describe jamaican music in general as reggae. not sure if there is a good way to separate things out. seems a lot like jazz in the US, where aficionados will be able to tell you all the permutations of the music (bebop, cool, etc...) but most folks lump it all into one category called jazz. - as much as i don't like it it's still reggae - It's RAW people who are creating DIVISION in reggae music in order to CONTROL it! - ITS ORIGIN IS REGGAE,THE YOUTH WANT THERE OWN MUSIC BUT ITS STILL RAGGAMUFFIN REGGAE. ROOTS REGGAE, DUB REGGAE, TAXI , DANCEHALL ITS ALL REGGAE, FROM ITS MENTO ORIGINS TO MODERN DANCEHALL. LONG LIVE REGGAE - The feel is not in Dancehall, musically and content. - dancehall is a valid musical artform, but it is not roots, therefore it stands in a category all its own. - As long as it's got the drum and bass, I'd consider it Reggae, but I appreci-love a positive message at the same time. Too much bling bling nowadays. - It only has small elements of reggae left, If Dancehall singers and DJs are not careful it will be swamped by hip hop and rap and will have absolutely nothing to do with reggae anymore. --- --- --- A new RAW Web Poll is already on-line... visit http://www.ReggaeAmbassadors.org to respond to: "Has the ability to download music from the internet (without paying) affected the amount of CDs you buy?" --- --- --- Peace!
