The Viceroys' cd "Love Is All" contains "lost" recordings from the 1980s. Some 18 pure and undiluted Studio One classics are gathered on Souljazz Records' latest Studio One sampler. "Remixed : Dubwise" is a truly wicked remix/dub album from Twilight Circus Dub Soundsystem. The "Blue Steel" riddim is a combination of steel pan and hardcore bass heavy drum beats. Mind, Body & Soul's "Revelation" is another worthwhile re-issue from the vaults of B.B. Seaton. El Condorsito's first 7" single is a decent effort that benefits from Sam Gilly's "Positive" riddim. New photos have been added to our Picture Gallery: Burning Spear, Cat Coore, Luciano, Mikey General and Junior Jazz. Check out Iggy T's 'Burning Ten', his personal Top 10 of the latest 7" singles. **** Last week's updates at http://www.reggae-vibes.com **** "Screechie & Kojak" is a worthwhile cd release, a treat for the fans of vintage reggae music. "Slogan On The Wall" collects the Viceroys' Studio One singles on one cd release. Donovan "Vendeta" Bennett's "Cool Fusion" is another irresistable bashment riddim. "Reggae Dreams Vol.1" presents reggae music styles from all over the world. The very strong Mono & Nikitaman debut cd is called "Das Spiel Beginnt". Mounia Sahara delivers a fairly decent collection of tunes on her debut album entitled "I've Got A Joy". (RAW #1582) Date: Thu, 05 Aug 2004 09:43:40 -0700 Dear Jahworks.org Readers, It is with great excitement that I bring your attention to Michael Kuelker's review of the Calabash Literary Festival 2004. The event, which takes place in Treasure Beach, Jamaica, annually celebrates the oral and literary traditions of the area. Kuelker has reviewed the festival with care and reflection, sharing his impressions both of the authors, their literary works, and the event itself. The question was posed, "Who is this festival for? Foreigners or Jamaicans?" He smartly conveys that the purpose of the festival is to treasure and honor the creativity, both raw and polished, that comes out of the Caribbean. http://www.jahworks.org Countdown to Reggae on the River 2004! The massive event happens this weekend. Check out Jahworks.org for the line-up, information on the newly released Reggae on the River DVD, and what to bring. See you at the River! New Contests! The Last Day Saloon in Santa Rosa, CA was the place to be last night, August 3, with the Mighty MIDNITE from St. Croix in the house. The joint was jumpin' and the place was rockin', and it indeed was an incredibly Consicous Roots Reggae Party! This was largest amount of people that I have ever witnessed for a Reggae show at this venue--a fine place for a Roots celebration. MIDNITE was in fine form, chanting down Babylon righteously to a loving and dancing massive. Good vibes were flowing and everyone was singing along and dancing wildly. It was a magical night for sure! What a great band! I must admit that this is only the second time I've seen them live, (first time was in L.A. at Bob Marley Days in February), and they certainly deserve their devoted following. People came from far away to check their conscious, rootsy and elegant vibes and music, and it was one of the best Reggae events that I've been to in many years, especially at this great club which offfers excellent sound, a roomy dance floor and very friendly people with good attitudes. Much niceness was in the house! BIG UPS: Thanks To: Dave Daher for booking Reggae Music, Jared the excellent soundman, Robert the manager, Alissa the bartender, Diane on security, and all the other nice folks who work at the Last Day Saloon, Kufunya, Midnite's very hard-working Road Manager, all the Irie Reggae lovers who came out to enjoy and support, and the wonderful band MIDNITE who put on a very fine show! Thanks also to Preston of Rastarfaria Records who books their tours and is making sure that everyone everywhere partakes of this "Midnite Experience"! And more Big Ups to the folks who helped us promote this show: Uma Valentine, Ken Duncan, Bob Slayton, and others who fliered, postered and helped bring in the large and wonderful crowd. Good work! Get ready to see them again on Sunday, August 8 on the big stage at Reggae On The River! Wow. It will be an historic occasion, to be sure. They are also playing at 19 Broadway and Studio Z in the Bay Area this week before Reggae, so check 'em out. More Reggae coming to Santa Rosa: EEK-A-MOUSE will play at the Last Day Saloon on Friday, September 10, as the Reggae party continues! This is a 21 and over venue and they serve excellent food too. See you there! Respect to all massive for lending your great energy to last night's vibes. I just stopped by to say thanks for this website. This was one of the 1st sites Mountain Lions International listed our band. Seems like an upstart Reggae band from Wisconsin should be listed here with all the "reggae heavies". Made us feel important to be listed on the same site. But I have to tell you there is more that comes from this website than feeling important, the MLI crew gets work as a direct result of this site. We get business coming to us from the internet; some comes from our own website, some comes from other sites where the band is listed, and some comes from usabb reggae. I know it for a fact, because of the contact methods the MLI listed here to contact me. Those contacts are golden because they are from people I don't know to play at places we have never been before. Praise the Lord! it's free business! Also I post on the usabb message yahoo groups about our runnings, we get referrals from that source. Just this month past we got 2 inquiries from California-- We in Wisconsin! couldn't do one but the other was a gig in Milwaukee=== can you believe!! it came from CA to play in WI. Oh mon, the internet is a wonderful thing, and this little site is a huge part of it for us. And it should be for all reggae artists- the heavies and the lighties alike. I am Papa Lion a non-playing member of the MLI and a father of one of the musicians, I can't carry a tune in a bucket, so I am in charge of booking. This music brings people together, young and old alike, it puts smiles on faces, and it breaks down the walls. =================== bless MLI... to believe and to do in good faith is all jah man can ask... =================== one, peace, roots-ee http://thearkband.com [7] *=*=*=*=*=*=*= *=*=*=*=*=*=*= *=*=*=*=*=*=*= >From Rude Gal (R.A.W. #) Subject: Mr. Easy Pull Up starting off big things!
