As it looks now PSM will be sending this newsletter out bi-monthly over this summer, as we have a handful of new projects and promotions happening over the next 8 weeks or so, and we want to get them out to you as soon as they are announced. Respect to all of the folks who helped make the Poetz4Peace US tour happen. Massive Respect to the Poetz US Band (Mike, Jeff, Pete, Lou-I and Melissa) and to Dru, Karney, MikeL,Tara, Abbie, and Rocker.. thank you for all of the support. Now on to the News: Karney Inks Deal with PSManagement, and upcoming West Coast gigs DeeCee's Soul Shakedown presents "Enter the Dancehall" July 10th in SF July is Listener Appreciation Month (buy a CD or LP from PSM and get one Free!!!) (Scroll down for more info!) Positive Sound Management Inks Deal with SF Singer/Songwriter Karney! PSM is very pleased to announce a new management deal between San Francisco Singer/Songwriter Karney and Positive Sound Management. So far it has been a great adventure for Karney, making and marketing CDs, getting out on the road as well as performing locally, and of course all the incredible press. Now we are upping the ante, and plunging headlong into another level and new chapter for Karney and Tangent Records. Here is Karney's current bio blurb to give you an idea about what she is all about: The sharp political realism in Karney's lyrics is softened by musical accompaniment that stirs rousing reggae riddims washed over with funk force gales and powerful vocals in the tradition of singer-songwriters and blueswomen. Although she has forged her own path as a guitarist, keyboardist, and vocalist, Karney's voice does call to mind some of the greats that came before her. Joel Selvin of the San Francisco Chronicle said "she can evoke '70s rock queens such as Ann Wilson of Heart, Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac or Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders, although the intense drive for self-expression that fuels her writing and singing reeks of punk poet Patti Smith." Minnesota's Collected Sounds praised her "great soulful voice, and music that is unique and interesting. Not your average pop junk." Music Editor Jennifer Maerz writing for The Stranger in Seattle found Karney reminded her of "artists like the Indigo Girls and Edie Brickell." Publisher Jonathan Ment of the Urban Rag also likened Karney to Chrissie Hynde, but was uncertain as to whether Karney sounded like Edie Brickell or the instrumental on the CD sounded like the New Bohemians. Kristy Martin of CMJ New Music Report suggested that Karney "channels the spirits of female singer/songwriters including Aimee Mann, Concrete Blonde's Johnette Napolitano and Pat Benatar. Of course, we can put ourselves into the role of music reviewers and debate who Karney's masterful pipes most resemble, or we can defer to the judgment of funk master George Clinton who summed up this artist's musical prowess with the rhetorical question, "How'd a white girl get so funky?" Also, look forward to more exciting news as Karney and Stand Out (aka Steffen), now join in what is sure to be a dynamic and successful partnership. For more info on Karney, her new album, and her other works check out: http://www.karney.org Karney Upcoming July Gigs: SEATTLE: New Moon Salon and Bop Street Records Join Forces Saturday - July 10th Showcase of West Coast Talent This free all-ages event coincides with Ballard Art Walk - where you can see several artists that have previously shown at the New Moon Salon: Bop Street Records, located adjacent to the Tractor Tavern in Ballard, offers customers over a half a million pieces of vinyl, as well as new and used cassettes, CDs and music memorabilia. The New Moon Salon has recently outgrown its original home at the headquarters of Promotional Rescue, a publicity firm on Phinney Ridge. The Salon series has combined the works 5 or 6 artists a month with performances by musicians and poets.
