Date: Tuesday, July 13, 2004 3:32 PM from the desk of Audra Yearwood*** Media Relations/Publicist For immediate release: 13 July, 2004 Montreal International Reggae Festival Inc. MONTREAL INTERNATIONAL REGGAE FESTIVAL A SUCCESS! Montreal, Qc (July 13, 2004)- It's official! Canada's first ever international reggae festival has brought the international reggae scene to Montreal! The festival, which took place June 4th-6th at Montreal's Old Port, has received critical acclaim from both the media and the near 15,000 fans who attended the historic event. Even without public funding, organizers were able to quiet detractors to pull off an amazing festival. With a budget of approximately half a million dollars, the festival was staged with the support of several small corporate sponsors and private funds. Executive Producer and Director Cezar Brumeanu remarks understandably, "All the levels of government [we approached] wanted to see how the first year went before getting involved." For the weekend of June 4th, 5th, and 6th the Old Port buzzed with positive reggae vibes from over 100 international and local performers. Each day kicked off with Montreal talent. Acts such as Kali Roots, Kulcha Connection, Karavan Kaya, Sampaloo, and Jah Cutta showcased their talent on the international stage. The stage also played host to artists from across Canada, the U.S., Africa and several other countries. Spokesperson and co-host, Lisa J, says, "The pool of talent for this first year was great. I'm looking forward to see next year's performers!" >From the first day, the festival was a hit. According to a reviewer from The Caribbean Camera, "Junior Kelly's delivery was simply amazing, especially his rendition of "If Love So Nice"." The crowd loved Coco Tea and they wanted more. The Itals, Junior Reid, and Abijah also did not disappoint the crowd on that first night." On Saturday, Luciano, Eric Donaldson, and Mikey Dread, brought life to the Old Port with their electric performances. A writer from The Montreal Gazette credits Morgan Heritage with the "unofficial anthem to the weekend [] when [they] played Don't Haffi Dread, which reassured the bald heads-those with no dreadlocks-that they can still be rastas at heart." The vibes blazed on into the night with the after parties at The Medley. Catering mostly to the dancehall crowd, T.O.K., Ce'Cile, and Tanto Metro & Devonte brought the roof down on full capacity crowds over the nights. On Sunday, surprise guest Richie Stephens did not let down the awaiting crowd. Though the fans were understandably disappointed that Buju Banton could not make the festival, they were pleased with the selection. Scores of reggae fans came out to enjoy the sights and sounds of the three-day festival. They sampled international dishes, and bought souvenirs from vendors selling clothes, accessories, and music. Overall, there was nothing but good music and good fun to be had at the festival. In the end, organizers believe they have accomplished their mission on several fronts. They have created an international stage for artists to gain international exposure, effectively communicated the message of unity in reggae music and culture, and more importantly have put Montreal on the reggae map! Organizers have already begun planning for 2005 and are eagerly anticipating increased attendance and corporate and government involvement FESTIVAL INTERNATIONAL REGGAE DE MONTREAL,UN GRAND SUCCHS! Montrial, Qc (13 juillet 2004) - Mission accomplie ! Selon The Caribbean Camera "Junior Kelly a iti incroyable, tout particulihrement lorsqu'il a interpriti If love so Nice. Yah's Peace and Blessings be with you, Queen Makedah ***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*** Queen Makedah, dubbed as "one of the best female reggae vocalists in recent years (UA Journal)," whose style fuses the Groove of the Caribbean and the Soul of America, is releasing her long awaited second CD, a Single entitled "Lift You Up" this July 12th 2004 on the Oriyah Music Record Label. For fans who enjoyed their first album, The Awakening, the new self-produced tracks, "Lift You Up" and the 2 bonus tracks, "I Got Mine" and "Tippin" will do more than satisfy you, they will lift you up. All 3 of the new tracks demonstrate an exciting and added maturity and depth, both in composition - via co-writer/producer Tuviel Lewis, a brilliant Brooklyn born and raised composer whose influences include The Abyssinians, Steel Pulse and The Gladiators - and via Queen Makedah, whose style - compared to Sade and Toni Braxton - reaches a new height of vocal and lyrical demonstration and talent, incorporating the best of her home-grown jazz/r&b and gospel roots for a sound that will keep you wanting more. Overall, the music of Queen Makedah is refreshment for the soul.
