Have a few minutes and I'm in my email account, so thought I'd write and let everyone know that I've been super busy, due to teaching and work responsibilities, and am way behind on a number of things. But... November renewal notices will be mailed tomorrow, and the due date extended accordingly. I just sent October playlists to Artists and Labels today. Incoming renewals and new memberships for the past month have been processed, and updates included in a NEW MEMBERS and CHANGES message I just sent out. I hope to get renewal and new membership packets sent out this weekend, if all goes well. Our supply of RAW bumperstickers has been depleted, so I am sending packets without them, and making a note as to who I owe a sticker. QUESTION: is there anyone out there who has a copy of the RAW bumpersticker on disk? I need that in order to process a new order. I hope to put in an order for new membership cards for all who joined since July very soon. I appreciate everyone's patience on this. Kyle Russell has been hard at work on RAW by-laws and the Board has been going over a final draft, but I'm afraid that I've been holding things up at my end. Haven't been able to make input as needed.....just too much going on at this end......so everything is delayed due to me. I've told Kyle I hope to get all my input to him by Thanksgiving. Some duplication of work is required as he had a computer crash a while back, and some input I'd already made needs to be re-written and sent back to him. The RAW website lost its volunteer a few months ago, and we are looking for a replacement person. if you are interested, please let Kyle know at ReggaePR@aol.com "Wha Gwaan in RAW?" went through a temporary haitus when Eric's computer crashed. I think he's now got things up and running and everyone should be getting the newsletter again soon. Thanks to all who wrote with their concerns. Work is good. I go from 7 in the morning and don't get home til after 10 pm on weekdays. Weekends are spent catching up on all the things I didn't get to during the week. But I LOVE working with the youth, and we are making some major changes at my school, as a result of a big adminstration change about a year ago. I'm in charge of 10 students who are in our small residential program, and they keep me busy 24/7, but I love 'em all. Lastly, to all those who try calling me for some reason or another. Due to the time difference between Guam and the US mainland, and my extremely busy schedule, I'm afraid I am just unable to return calls. If you know someone who has called me, and is waiting for a return call, please give them my email address. I do much better with that mode of communication. That's it for now. Subject: Virgin Islands roots in Reno, w/ Bambu Station, Iba -- Golden Phoenix, Nov. 22 Date: Fri, 12 Nov 2004 15:25:39 -0800 From: tracy moore Greetings Reggae Lovers -- Catch the next wave of great roots reggae music to come out of the Virgin Islands with the special appearance of Jalani Horton and Bambu Station along with special guest vocalist Iba, Monday, November 22, at the Golden Phoenix Showroom. The Virgin Islands have practically taken the place of Jamaica itself when it comes to producing some of the most crucial and heartical roots reggae music in the great tradition of roots sounds that first grew in Jamaica back in the 1970's with Bob Marley, Jacob Miller, the Abyssinians, and many others. With the smash success of modern roots leaders Midnite, who hail from St. Croix, and now the advent of the Mt. Nebo Records stable of artists lead by Bambu Station, Iba, and many more (featured wonderfully on the Mt. Nebo release "Talkin' Roots - Volume I"), the V.I. has stepped out of Jamaica's shadow to become a huge part of the worldwide roots reggae scene. Hear and see a great taste of this new reggae movement Nov. 22 right here in our hometown. Listen to the Reggae Shack (Sundays, KTHX 100.1 fm, 9pm) or Regae Fi Real (Thursdays, KUNR 88.7 fm, 7 pm) for some sounds from "Talkin' Roots," as well as the Bambu Station release "One Day," and Iba's "Jah Lion." Both radio shows will also be offering a chance at free tickets from now until Nov. 22. Reggae Shack host Too Dread will spin some irie reggae pre-show, so come early. Doors will open around 7:30 pm. For more information, call the Golden Phoenix at 785-7100. This is one to tell all your friends about and experience first-hand!!! First release under new deal is Christafari's Gravitational Dub (Nashville, TN) November 14th, 2004 -- Gospel reggae and world music record label Lion of Zion Entertainment, Inc. recently signed an exclusive U.S. (CBA and general market) distribution deal with Point of Grace Entertainment Distribution, a company distributed by Faithworks in the CBA market and Sony/BMG Red in the general market. The new deal, which takes effect immediately, will include Lion of Zion Entertainment's catalog of Gospel reggae and world music titles. The first new release to be distributed by PGE will be Christafari's Gravitational Dub--Destination Dub Central Station, in stores January 11, 2005. Commenting on this news, John van der Veen, music buyer for Family Christian Stores, the nation's largest chain of Christian book & music retailers, said: "When I think about the power of music, I think about the impact it can have on both the individual and the masses. Such is the case with Christafari. Mark and his band mates have impacted my life in such a way to desire more of the things of Jesus. I also have witnessed the power of Mark's records changing the masses, to see the Light, to see the Truth. I am excited about the new relationship that Lion of Zion Entertainment now has with Point of Grace Entertainment. This new partnership is more than contracts and dotted lines, this is the family of God, linking arms to both speak to the church and the unchurched. Such will be the case for Christafari's new record, Gravitational Dub. I have lived with this record for some time now, and I must say I believe it is their finest work to date. Look out folks, reggae is taking over in '05!" Started in 1999 by Christafari founder and vocalist Mark Mohr, Lion of Zion Entertainment is the largest provider of gospel reggae and world music on the planet. The label consistently introduces Christian music buyers to new musical cultures from around the world, including such genres as gospel dancehall, dub, soca, calypso, Jamoo, raggamuffin hip hop, African, and MeReggaeTM. "We have a lot of respect for Mark Mohr and Lion of Zion Entertainment," said PGE Distributions Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Minister Earnest Jefferson. "Lion of Zion has enjoyed huge popularity at Christian and mainstream retail over the years, and we look forward to this long-term relationship. The expanded affiliation with Lion of Zion will strengthen an already strong and growing retail presence that PGE has within the CBA marketplace. Lion of Zion Entertainment now becomes our largest single supplier of music in PGEs history!" Releases from Lion of Zion Entertainment have included albums from artists such as Christafari, 'Imisi, Stitchie, Sherwin Gardner, Tiko&Gita, and Monty G. The label has also released a number of various artist compilations including Reggae Redemption Songs, Dancehall Baptism 1 & 2, Africa Anointed, Ragamuffin Hip Hop 1 & 2, To The King and Soca Baptism. Beyond the reggae/world music theme, each one of these artist releases and compilations share a unifying message of salvation in Christ alone. We are extremely enthusiastic about this new deal with PGE," said Lion of Zion Entertainment President, Mark Mohr. "Having had some unfortunate distribution experiences in the past, we set out to work with a respected organization known for its integrity and consistency. I believe we have found this in Minister Jefferson and PGE. Their professionalism, marketing strategies and distribution channels coupled with our existing international distribution will help us continue to fulfill our mission of Reaching the World Through World Music." Here are a few important announcements: Young Tree Records is pleased to announce the November 16, 2004 official worldwide release of Groundation's new studio album "We Free Again." In conjunction with our European partner, Nocturne Records, "We Free Again" has recently been released and is currently available in music retail stores throughout Europe. Groundation has made history with this recording by uniting the vocal talents of legendary Jamaican singers Apple Gabriel (founding member of Israel Vibration '76-'96) and Don Carlos (Black Uhuru). The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Reggae engineer Jim Fox of Lion & Fox Studios (Culture, Ziggy Marley, Gregory Isaacs). Both Don Carlos and Jim Fox's work can also be heard on Groundation's previous release, "Hebron Gate," which received worldwide acclaim including a nomination for Germany's coveted World Music award. Since it's initial limited release on October 2, 2004, "We Free Again" has been the #1 selling Reggae album with one of our distributors, Ernie B's Reggae Distribution. In addition, Groundation's previous three releases continue to be top Reggae sellers with City Hall Records, a major distributor of titles on independent record labels Groundation's previous releases, "Young Tree (Remastered)" (2002), "Each One Teach One" (2001) and "Hebron Gate feat. Don Carlos and The Congos" (2002), are also available at music retailers across the U.S., Canada and in South America on Young Tree Records. For our fans in Puerto Rico, Groundation's releases can also be found at the Jah Rastafari Store in Puerto Rico. Groundation's entire studio catalog is currently available throughout Europe exclusively on Nocturne Records. Friends and Family, I am writing to appeal for help for my brother-friend from Zimbabwe. As you may know, Zimbabwe is in economic chaos and many good people are suffering. My friend Onasis Mutasa, who contributes to Wha a gwaan has asked me to help him raise money for his wifes pending medical treatment. This is not just a donation. This is a wonderful opportunity to help our friend and in return you will receive a box of African art, batiks, statues and/or carvings. Onasis has sent me 3 or 4 such boxes over the past couple years and I have been able to sell the goods at my performances and my wife Mika has sold them at fairs and events. The artifacts and batiks are so beautiful that we always keep a few for ourselves. This would be a great way to help a family and take care of your gift buying. Onasis needs only $300 US to pay for his wifes emergency treatment. The boxes I have received cost me $220.00 and were worth about $300 to $500. We passed on good deals to people and kept! some stuff, but the crafts were absolutely beautiful. Onasis is an honest man who cries for a way to make an honest living. He actually sent me the first box with no up front money and I sent him the money made from the sales. Since then, I have wired him money and he contacts me through email and soon a box of beautiful art from Momma Afrika arrives. There is always a chance that some stuff may breakh to pay a duty. Please take advantage of this Afrikan connection and help this man and his family. I do not have the money right now and he fears the worst if his wife does not get treatment. I can guarantee that Onasis is a honest man who needs your help. I have been involved with many business people for years and unfortunately I have seen many who speak of desperate situations that in truth are fabrications. Onasis wifes health situation is serious and he needs our help. Trust me, this man will come through with his word. Please contact me Geoff Stumpa Stump at 970-927-0471 or at stumpamon@yahoo.com if you have any questions. Otherwise, please act now and write to Onasis to arrange the contents of your package and payment. You will be helping a positive young family survive and they will enrich your lives. The concert takes place at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, 1255 Hempstead Tpk, Uniondale, New York. I am extremely happy to have both Jimmy and Bunny performing at this historic event an upbeat Junior Burton was quoted as saying. Bunny is a living legend and the sole surviving member of the internationally famous Wailers band while Jimmy is a celebrated recording artiste and actor, having recorded numerous classics and starred in Harder They Come - the first internationally successful Jamaican film. With over 20 albums to date, Cliff was among the first to bring reggae to a worldwide audience. He had his first hits, "Hurricane Hattie" and "Dearest Beverley" in 1963 and tasted success outside of Jamaica by winning the International Song Festival in Brazil with "Waterfall." Cliff had enormous success in Britain, where "Wonderful World" reached number six. In the USA he found an enthusiastic audience and critical acclaim with Wonderful World, as well as his cover of Cat Steven's "Wild World". The seventies saw him continue to make world-class albums, including a greatest hits collection, Live - In Concert. His 1983 collaboration with Kool & The Gang resulted in the Grammy-nominated album The Power and the Glory, an achievement bettered in 1985 when Cliff Hanger won him a Grammy. His new album Black Magic features many legendary and contemporary stars including Annie Lennox, Sting, Kool & The Gang and Wyclef Jean. Reggae icon Bunny Wailer, born Neville Livingston teamed with Bob Marley and Peter Tosh to record several classic albums including Catch A Fire and Burnin'. As the original three-man line-up of The Wailers ground to a halt in 1974, caused by Bunnys unwillingness to tour, he embarked on his own solo career. With one of the sweetest, most sought-after baritones in reggae, Bunny has been one of the leading progenitors of message-heavy roots reggae for nearly 30 years. His three Grammy Awards make him a reggae legend and in 1992, the Queen of England bestowed the Order of Distinction on him. Although his music has never achieved the mainstream popularity enjoyed by Bob or even Peter, it has been of a consistently high standard, beginning with the excellent Blackheart Man in 1976. Cliff and Bunny will join forces with some of their equally renowned male counterparts including Tony Rebel, Maxi Priest, Half Pint, Sly & Robbie, Luciano, I Wayne, Jah Paul and Supa Chile for what is expected to be one of the most impressive lineup of roots, reggae stars ever assembled for a tri-state area concert.
