Date: Thu, 18 Nov 2004 07:35:40 -0800 (PST) From: dee desnoyers I am considering heading to Houston for the Thanksgiving holiday. Could those of you familiar with the Houston area send me some suggestions for any Caribbean places to check out (restaurants, clubs, etc.). Does anyone know about any live reggae going on there next week? Date: Thu, 18 Nov 2004 16:00:15 -0500 (EST) From: moss raxlen Just a quick note to let you know that there will be a live performance with Lynn Taitt and HVW8 that will air on ZeD on Monday, November 29th. ZeD airs weeknights on CBC Television at 11:25pm after The National and it will also be available for viewing on the website at zed.cbc.ca. I"m now working with Lynn Taitt for a release next spring , for a great old rocksteady comp. of his work check.... Red Bumb Ball - Rare & Unreleased Rocksteady 1966-1968 PS40. Released in 2003 on Pressure Sounds. A 22 track collection of some of the most beautiful and crafted rocksteady music. Focussing on tracks that have been lost in the past or never seen the light of day since their original release. Overlooked gems pull together for the first time on CD. We were just interested in creating beautiful music Lynn Taitt Red Bumb Ball by Lloyd & Devon and In A Rocking Mood by Austin Faithful are both stunning examples of the art of rocksteady. All the tracks feature the genius of Lynn Taitt and The Jets probably the best backing band during the rocksteady period. The Black Brothers, Derrick Morgan, Roland Alphonso, The Viceroys all contribute fantastic songs with beautiful harmonies truly ensemble musicianship and progressive production techniques. The event was successful, with wonderful performances from everyone including Ras Michael, Harrison from Groundation, and Haile Maskel (from the Rastafarians). The room was filled with a lot of love and support. Even though the event went well, help is still needed. Much of the funding went towards the venue rental and Saundra still has outstanding medical bills, housing needs and the like to take care of. If you didn't get a chance to attend, you can still give. Please send monetary donations to: Walter Waters Memorial Fund c/o HAC 2500 MLK Jr. Way, Ste.1 Berkeley, CA 94704 Attn: Checks payable to Sandra Sabo (Saundra's legal name) She has good days and bad days and if you'd like to contact her directly, her email is dreadgal55@yahoo.com. I learned a lot about Mikey Dread from his web! Mikey site is probably the coolest one around." Tony Culture, Jamaican Reggae Singer out of Arizona called with such enthusiasm, after checking Mikey's site, Tony was so excited, he by passed the use of standard English and went straight into Jamaican Patois': He said in Patois: " Mi checked Mikey's site and mi nevah nuh sey Mikey has done so much in the industry! Nuff Respect to his tremendous contribution to Reggae! Long time - Blesseth Jah!" Elaine Warren - Wrote after witnessing for the first time a Mikey Dread Performance at-The Dreadstock Festival in Vallejo, Calif. Elaine said "Mikey has a clear message a positive message that inspired people. It inspires people to go beyond to do better, to higher heights, to tap into their own abilities. When Mikey came on stage it was more upbeat and he clearly stood out from the other performers. It was a clear cut difference, all the performers were nice, but Mikey's performance was set apart, his energy and persona was magnified in the performance, that not only gave you good music with variety, but one with substances. Seeding positive messages throughout. I thought Mikey was a very Lively performer. I would certainly attend another Mikey Dread concert. I'm glad I had the chance to meet Mikey personally. I was thrilled from the personal touch. After I saw his performance, I wanted to learn more about him which drew me to his website and even then, I am still left wanting to know more, much more about him, a curiosity, a respect. I can see him draw in a new audience because of his positive uplifting messages in his music." Most people know Mikey Dread from Jamaican Radio and don't realize the scope of his Contribution to the Reggae Entertainment Arena across the board.
