Date: Mon, 04 Oct 2004 16:30:11 -0700 From: Press Press Release Contact: RudeGal rudegal@rudegal.com Dangazones debut artist LUDDY made it out the gate with an impressive first start! One of the many artists signed to this boutique label based dually in Miami and Jamaica, Luddys first single had an impressive start. Home Tonight featured production by hip hop beatmaster Timberland. The song served as Luddys introduction to the Reggae massive in radio ranging from Jamaica, US, Canada, Bahamas, England, Italy, Germany and all other pockets of Caribbean culture worldwide. Being a savy company, Dangazone foresaw the need for a video. This video was submitted to 300 video outlets specializing in Reggae, Hip Hop and retail outlets. It received airplay on all reggae based video shows as well as MUN 2. As a result, the video landed in Champs Sports Stores during the months of July and August. Further, the video was aired in all FootLocker and FootAction stores during the months of August 2004. For an essentially a brand new artist, Dangazones approach to marketing and promoting Luddy has succeed in airplay on: KTHX, WLRN, KUNM, WSJU, KFSR, WFSS, WHPK, WTRN, WAJL, WXIS, KSUA, WTMG, WTSR, WRCA, KYWL, WLNZ, WNHU, KSEQ, KNDA, WXAC, KSXY, WZMX and mainstream stations like; WPOW, WBTT, WOWI, WMIB, WQHT, WEDR, WWBZ, WHT A, KJLH, WFXE and 91X. Further, the song was aired on IRIE JAM in Jamaica, JAM FM in Germany, CKRK and Galaxy Radio in Canada, 106 FM in Israel and on programs in the Bahamas, Belgium and the Netherlands. With local appearances in Miami and on key festivals such as Irie Jamboree in New York and the California Reggae Festival in Los Angeles, Luddy is successfully being put to the test with stringent audiences. In the studio working to build up catalog for his album debut, Luddy is working towards crossing into Americas mainstream market with his brand of Dancehall fusion. Peter Broggs Date: Sat, 2 Oct 2004 13:03:14 -0400 From: "colleen@peterbroggs.com" I have temporarily relocated to Michigan and would like to give everyone an update on Peters status. I'm sorry it has taken me so long. Peter is able to walk and eat. His right hand is still not in use but he is doing therapy to try to regain use. He can lift his right arm which he was unable to do after the stroke. He is working on his speech and hopefully in the next week he will receive the speech therapy video I found to watch and practice to regain words. He can "hum" his tunes with a melody but only a few words are coming out. He is still on several medicines. I received a couple donations from RAW members and would like to say thank you very much. These have helped to purchase more meds. His son Kimani is with him in Montego Bay at home and helps him daily. For updates please check out our website... www.peterbroggs.com Thanks again for you emails & donations. colleen [5] *=*=*=*=*=*=*= *=*=*=*=*=*=*= *=*=*=*=*=*=*= >From Maya Soleil (R.A.W. #) Subject: MAYA SOLEIL -- October/November 2004 shows Date: Sat, 02 Oct 2004 10:07:32 -0700 From: Rob Pastorok UPCOMING SHOWS - Maya Soleil - October + November 2004 OCTOBER October 2, Saturday, 8:30 pm-12:30 am Pt. Irie up yourself, with Andrew Perry as your guide to the finest Jamaican vibes Sunday September 19, 2004 The Observer 1 Bob Marley & The Wailers Rastaman Vibration (Island) #8.99 Marley at his most focused, militant and ghetto-conscious, immediately prior to 1977's global success Exodus. Less of a hit-fest, then, but a ferociously coherent rejection of society's follies ('War', 'Rat Race', 'Crazy Baldhead'). 2 Burning Spear Marcus Garvey (Island) #8.99 After Marley, Burning Spear, aka Winston Rodney, was Island's next most-likely-to. His 1976 debut for the label reiterated charismatic politician Garvey's plea for slave families' repatriation to Africa. Though tuneful and heartfelt, it didn't chart. 3 Max Romeo & The Upsetters War Ina Babylon (Hip-O Select) Unremitting in both its militancy and melodic acumen, this is the most accessible of Lee 'Scratch' Perry's extraordinary productions from his Black Ark studio. Re-issued via internet-only hip-oselect.com label. 4 King Tubby & Friends Dub Gone Crazy (Blood And Fire) #13.99 Subtitled 'The Evolution Of Dub 1975-1979', this peerless collection gathers up Tubby's mixes from obscure 7-inch B-sides, showcasing the master's groundbreaking and ever-mind-blowing realignments of recorded sound. 5 Johnny Clarke Dreader Dread 1976-1978 (Blood and Fire) #13.99 Another brilliant Blood And Fire compilation, much of it culled from the A-sides to the above-mentioned KIng Tubby mixes. Marked by Clarke's exquisite warble and Bunny Lee's smoke-thick production, this album is top-ranking roots reggae. 6 Various Studio One Roots (Soul Jazz) #13.99 Studio One is celebrated for ska and rocksteady, but bossman Clement Dodd continued to make fantastic records in the Seventies roots era. Though no rasta himself, his productions here are among the decade's most 'cultural' and evocative. 7 Big Youth Natty Universal Dread (Blood And Fire) #19.99 In 1969, U-Roy cut the first records in the 'DJ style', rapping or toasting over pre-existing instrumental tracks. Thereafter, Big Youth tackled the form most inventively, as this ever-exuberant triple-disc bonanza proves. 8 Augustus Pablo King Tubby Meet Rockers Uptown (Shanachie) #14.99 The ultimate dub album, on which Tubby faced off with melodica-playing production wizard Pablo. Largely vocal-free, it's still somehow deeply spiritual and hymnal -' musical questing as religious devotion. 9 Gregory Isaacs Mr Isaacs (Blood & Fire) #10.99 Best known for his lover-boy posturing, Gregory Isaacs also made some of the toughest roots albums - including the hard-to-find Extra Classic. This apparently effortless masterpiece from 1977 includes the brilliant 'Slavemaster'. 10 CULTURE Two Sevens Clash (Shanachie) #12.99 Culture's Joseph Hill borrowed much from Burning Spear's fire-and-brimstone ire, but this irresistibly tuneful album was a genre classic, its apocalypse-will-happen-in-1977 title providing a certain punk band with their name. one, peace, roots-ee http://thearkband.com [8] *=*=*=*=*=*=*= *=*=*=*=*=*=*= *=*=*=*=*=*=*= >From Jahmark & The Soulshakers (R.A.W. #) Subject: Native Wayne on INDIE 103.1 fm Date: Sat, 2 Oct 2004 20:34:13 -0700 (PDT) From: Jahmark Greetings One & All, For those of you who do not know, Native Wayne (formerly of KROQ reggae radio) has a new show on the air at INDIE 103.1 fm. The only drawback is that the show can be only picked up in LA county and Orange county, nevertheless, spread the word to your friends and make sure to give "Native" a call on Sundays (every Sunday "til him cyaan tek it no more")so that we can continue our SOULSHAKERS REVOLUTION in LA/Orange county and beyond through conscious roots reggae music, for in this time of war only JAH LOVE is the answer!!! It's time to give back to the region of the world who has given us so much! The Caribbean has given us endless styles of great music that we have enjoyed for so long. This music which is so pleasing to our ears, is to many of us spiritual nourishment for our mind and heart. My prayers go out to the American's in Florida who have suffered great losses. I pray for their speedy recover. But my feeling is the United States have the resources to support their needs were as the Caribbean doesn't. Ghana has lost 90 percent of their homes and it will take decades to rebuild their country. Proceeds from this show will go directly to the Salvation Army Caribbean relief fund. I have chosen the Salvation Army for the following reasons. I hope you can support the benefit in person and bring a friend with you. But if you can't you can go on line and make a donation. You can designate your donation to the Caribbean country of your choice. www.salavationarmy.org Salvationists in the Caribbean put others first. Despite sustaining significant damage to their own homes and facilities, Salvationists across the Caribbean are working selflessly to ease the suffering of others in the wake of Hurricane Ivan. Salvation Army buildings within the affected area are serving as makeshift shelters and feeding centers for families who have lost everything they own. Many count themselves lucky to be alive. With local Salvation Army personnel working around the clock, International Field Operations Officer Captain Mike McKee has been sent to the region from International Headquarters to assist with the assessment and relief efforts. Major Cedric Hills (International Emergency Services Coordinator) notes that, while many communities in other parts of the world are heavily insured against hurricane damage and other natural disasters, 'Our friends in the Caribbean, who have lost so much, have very little hope of having most of their things replaced.' Major Richard Gulley, from The Salvation Army's territorial headquarters in Jamaica, says the immediate need is for funding rather than donated goods. Major Gulley explains: 'Donations of material take time to gather, time and money to ship and then a lot of manpower to receive, sort and organize before they can be distributed. This takes time that, quite frankly, we don't have at the moment.' Monetary donations will allow Salvation Army emergency teams to obtain the supplies and equipment they require from nearby islands and provide immediate appropriate assistance to the people who need it most. Please mark November 5, on your calendar. I look forward to seeing you at Czar's with two of our favorite Caribbean bands Indika and Zion Lion! Also for our friends in the Detroit area.
