Date: 19 Oct 2004 10:15:01 -0000 From: Lion Of Zion Greetings from Christafari and Lion of Zion Entertainment! It is "new music Tuesday" once again, and we have just added more great music to the www.lionofzion.com webstore. Christafari commemorates their 15th anniversary this month with a brand new T-shirt. Lion of Zion is currently holding auditions for some reggae musicians/vocalists and the label's "Soca Baptism" won a BEST COMPILATION AWARD. Here are the details: INDEX: 1>. NEW TITLES ADDED TO OUR WEBSTORE (Geneman's "The Light"). 2>. CHRISTAFARI UPDATE (Band Commemorates 15th Anniversary with new T-shirt) 3>. LION OF ZION STILL AUDITIONING MUSICIANS & VOCALISTS. 4>. SOCA BAPTISM WINS "BEST COMPILATION" AWARD. 1>. NEW TITLES ADDED TO WWW.LIONOFZION.COM WEBSTORE: Do you want a revolutionize the way you buy music? Are you sick of buying CDs full of ordinary songs on the Internet and then having to wait for weeks until they get to you? Then Check out lionofzion.com, where our customers give us the highest ratings for customer service, prompt deliveries, and clean positive music! With over 150 titles, LionofZion.com has the world's largest selection of gospel reggae & world music. From roots to dancehall, and raggamuffin hip-hop to soca, we have Caribbean, African, and Latin. So check us out today! That's www.lionofzion.com Here are the most recent additions to our webstore: GENEMAN, "The Light" Geneman's "Righteous in Christ" was the first release to be sold in our webstore back in 1998 and ended up being a bestseller for years. On his sophomore release, this Bermudan serves up roots reggae galore, sure to satisfy the appetite of any gospel reggae aficionado. With his clever animated voices and gruff vocal textures, some have compared him with everyone from Eek-a-mouse to Tiger and even Joseph Hill of Culture. But I say that he sounds like none other than GENEMAN. This time Geneman, (pronounced Jenn-eh-man), adds a tight horn section, electric guitars, sweet background vocals and some choice guest appearances to compliment his distinct style. Packed with throbbing bass, this recording is fit for any roots lover. The songwriting is original, and the musical arrangements are tight. If you like roots reggae, you will LOVE this album! And if you haven't heard his first release don't forget to grab yourself a copy of "Righteous in Christ," while you are shopping. CHRISTAFARI UPDATE (Band Commemorates 15th Anniversary with new T-shirt): Fifteen years ago at a Christian summer camp in Big Bear, CA, a vision was birthed in then 17 year-old Mark Mohr. Mark was inspired to write some lyrics during a quiet time and then given the opportunity to perform his new song at the camp's talent show. This was the birth of Christafari (then called "The Christafarians"). Two years later, the group released their first demo titled "Lion of Zion". This would prove to be the humble beginning of a pioneering group that has since released numerous albums and taken the gospel of Jesus Christ to over 30 different countries. In 1999, after departing from Gotee records, Mark Mohr started Lion of Zion Entertainment, a modest record company built upon a single release, Christafari's "WordSound&Power". Five years and twenty releases later, Lion of Zion is still steadily growing as the premier gospel reggae/world music label. Recently, the company's most successful release was Christafari's critically acclaimed "Gravity" album. This project featured a spitfire hyper jungle cut aptly called "Lion of Zion". While this track greatly contrasts the original "Lion of Zion" written in 1991 by Mohr, the Christo-centric theme is consistent. In honor of this song, the label, and to commemorate 15 years in the music business, Christafari has recently issued a brand new "Lion of Zion" T-shirt. "The Lion of Zion shall break every chain In the Lion of Zion the victory is ours again!" Are you ready to put on some victorious apparel? It is time to represent the true "Lion of Zion" (Jesus Christ) with this stunning new shirt from Christafari. In simply sporting one shirt you can give your "big-ups" to the band, their song, the record company, and this website. But most importantly, you can use this shirt to "large-up" the original Lion of Zion and true King of all kings--what a great witnessing tool! Grab a shirt today and get ready to represent gospel reggae in high fashion! Manufactured in all sizes from Youth Small to XXL. To check out this clever design, simply click your way to: www.lionofzion.com Christafari is currently in the process of manufacturing their highly anticipated next release, "Gravitational Dub". This album is a psychedelic mix interpretation of the most vital songs from Christafari's "Gravity", album plus a few new crucial roots tracks. It is the law of Gravity in DUB! Look for it out this winter (Release date TBA). 3>. LION OF ZION ENTERTAINMENT CONTINUES TO AUDITION MUSICIANS AND VOCALISTS. Lion of Zion Entertainment is still in search of skilled musicians and vocalists for first and second-string positions in two major gospel reggae groups. All applicants must live within a reasonable distance of Los Angeles, CA., have a flexible schedule, be able to do local shows in Southern California and fly/drive dates in the rest of America. Each applicant must be a legal United States resident and able to travel in and out of the US without hindrance. Must be a born again Christian, and a professional musician with a servant attitude. Reggae, jazz, black gospel, and ministry experience preferred. We are looking for a broad range of ethnicities in our applicants. Female instrumentalists that can also sing are a plus. We are searching for a potential guitarist, saxophonist, trombonist, trumpet player, keyboardist, female backing vocalist and drummer. Please spread the word and pray for our search. Note: only current (or future) residents of southern California need respond. Auditions are being held over the next two weeks in the Los Angeles area. For more details please call (310) 350-1836 immediately. 4>. SOCA BAPTISM WINS "BEST COMPILATION" AWARD AT RECENT CARIBBEAN AWARD CEREMONY: We recently received news that yet another one of Lion of Zion's albums has won an award. In addition to the host of awards won this year by Christafari and 'Imisi, the label's "Soca Baptism" also picked up an award in a major Caribbean award show. That's right, at the 2004 Bahamian Marlin Awards, the pioneering "Soca Baptism" picked up the BEST COMPILATION ALBUM award. Here is a description of this unique recording: As Lion of Zion Entertainment's "Dancehall Baptism - Chapter One" introduced the world to the powerful genre of Jamaican gospel dancehall, we now take you on a trip to a separate set of islands in the southeast Caribbean--Trinidad & Tobago--for an introduction to soca. Renowned for its magnificent carnivals, calypso, and this century's only musical invention, the steel pan, Trinidad & Tobago has already shared its sounds with the world through soca songs like Arrow's "Hot, Hot, Hot." Now, in typical Lion of Zion Entertainment fashion, it's time to baptize soca for Jesus Christ! If reggae music is the heartbeat of the Caribbean, then soca is the pulse. Created by the late Ras Shorty I in 1973, "Soca" is short for the "soul of calypso". It is a unique hybrid of Caribbean instrumentation and bangra/chutney beats, bridging the two major ethnic groups of Trinidad and Tobago--the African and the East Indian. Layered over the driving kick drum and bubbling bass lines are syncopated up-tempo chutney beats accentuated by militant snare stabs. These sounds can get any crowd moving and cause a sea of people to wave their rags--a Trinidadian favorite! Packed with seventeen tracks, Christ is never absent from this album. Each artist is committed to spreading the good news of Jesus Christ over their contagious, sanctified beats. With powerful music and Word-filled lyrics, Lion of Zion Entertainment has once again highlighted a musical genre that can travel the world with plenty to offer both dancer and listener alike. "Soca Baptism" presents a generous sampling of this Caribbean music for the mind, body, soul, and spirit. We Are All Related! Hailing from the North coast ghettos of Jamaica, the Twinkle Brothers began singing in the school choir and playing music at an early age. As youth, the two brothers, Norman and Ralston Grant could not afford to purchase musical instruments, so they made their own out of everything from tin cans, milk cartons, garbage cans, and fishing line to make guitars and drums. After Jamaican independence from England in the early 60's, The Twinkle Brothers began singing in National Competitions called "Pop and Mento Festivals". After years of winning the Parish championship, the Twinkle Brothers finally made Regionals and then won first place in the Nationals championship. By the late 60's, the Twinkle Brothers started recording, going to Kingston to audition for labels such as Coxsone, Prince Buster and Beverly's. Their first recording was a solo by Norman called "Somebody Please Help Me", recorded by Leslie Kong on the Beverly's label. Today the Twinkle Brothers have produced 63 albums, plus numerous singles, live albums and videos. With so much more to come, the Twinkle Brothers have kept and will continue to keep roots reggae music alive. A gifted singer from a family of talented musicians, Della Grant has been singing since the age of six. Her voice has become more refined and sweeter as her career continues. With the release of her seventh CD, Give Jah The Glory, she continues in her usual eloquent style. She has gained both national and international recognition for her music while touring with her husband and brother-in-law, Ralston and Norman Grant, the famed Twinkle Brothers. Said to be one of North America's most powerful and promising reggae acts in years, Soul Majestic's diversity in their range of fans demonstrates their ability to move the most hard-core reggae enthusiasts as well as a wider, more universal audience, and keep them dancing from start to finish. In March of 2004 Soul Majestic left California heading to Kingston, Jamaica where they recorded their new album entitled Until That Day recorded at Bob Marley's Tuff Gong Studio's. While recording in Jamaica, Soul Majestic had the honor of working with legendary producers and bass and drum duo Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare as well as international reggae superstar Anthony B. Their 15-song sophomore album released on the Soul Majestic label hit stores in August 2004. *This show will sell out at the door so buy ticket early!
