It is an idea that has been a work in progress for the past 5 or so years, and now it is finally a reality. Independent Distribution Collective is going to be a great option for independent labels and artists alike. Check out the press release below as well as IDC's website at http://www.independentdistro.com Any artists or labels that are interested in submitting product please take a look at the "Got Distribution" page on the website before contacting us. We do accept any genre of music, as long as your product is "Retail Ready". The office opens in two weeks and we will be available to discuss all aspects of the business, and what we can do for you! Here is the IDC Intro Press Release: (Feel free to forward it on to anyone who you think might be interested) For Immediate Release: September 1, 2004 Independent Distribution Collective is Born A fresh, new concept in independent music distribution is set to revolutionize the current form of bringing physical products to market, and in turn, to unite hundreds of independent labels and artists worldwide. Independent Distribution Collective was conceived from the idea that independent record labels and artists have almost always struggled with one major aspect of operation, distribution. Thousands of releases go unnoticed every year as many great projects never even make it into stores, never mind having sales to offset the cost of manufacturing. The time has come for the "underdogs" to approach distribution equal to the other aspects in the process of making albums. It is also clear that many independent labels and artists working together creates a "strength in numbers" perspective that makes Independent Distribution Collective a sales and marketing force, rather than just another one stop. Nine labels currently make up IDC. All of them are totally different genres, with different fanbases and marketing strategies. Each one has a strong knowledge of its home market, in places like the San Francisco "Bay Area", Miami, and even in Cyprus. The main theme that unites these labels is the belief that they could be selling more records if they could participate in the distribution process. All of the labels realize that working together, sharing focus and energy, that each one's sales will increase and create a stronger distribution partner down the road. As each will have a new-found revenue stream, it is IDC's intention that each label can continue to release new projects, thereby feeding the collective's constant need for new product. IDC will open its doors September 15th, 2004, at its new office/warehouse in Oakland, California. Events to promote the opening will include a full scale web launch of independentdistro.com, the collective's website which focuses primarily on wholesale distribution, release and label information, as well as the product submission process. Other events include the IDC "Pressing Flesh" tour from Seattle to San Diego, September 6th through the 14th, covering 3 states, and close to 20 cities in a complete west coast grassroots marketing promotion. The L.A. Jazz Scene has identified him twice this year "as one of music's "best kept secrets" a pianist everyone should take notice of! He has been the house band at Fitzgerald's at Woodland Hills Hilton for the past few years and recently lost his musical home to a change in club management wanting to offer a new concept for their convention clientele which has been recommending a discoteque over live music. I'm not certain what IS there now but many enjoyed John along with drummer extraordinaire Ralph Penland, a legend in his own right performing with Frank Sinatra, Carlos Santana, Herbie Hancock, Bobby McFerrin, George Benson, Hubert Laws, Jr. and Chaka Khan just to name but a few!!! Ralph and his band, Penland Polygon will be the featured artist at Los Angeles County Museum of Art Free Concert Series on Friday, September 10, 2004 (5:30Pm) On Upright Bass will be the talented Mr. Jim Hughart while saxophone legend, Mr. Pete Christlieb will perform as well. The trio was featured a few months ago in LA Jazz Scene during their last few weeks at Fitzgerald's in a feature about needing to find a new home for their beautiful music. They were again featured in the Sept 2004 edition where they were given a glorious review! I am always impressed when journalists help to make the world a better place. Drummer Ralph Penland had these words to say about Anna Fisher and her music,"I am always inspired by how you dare to take your instrument to higher heights always taking it to the next level. People have always known the oboe to be a classical instrument. I like your courage to give the oboe visibility and individuality!" Hope to see you there!
