For Immediate Release: September, 13, 2004 (Miami, FL) - Miami based, Eight76 Records, will be donating one dollar of every ticket sold to the JURA (Jamaica United Relief Association) from this Friday's "Night of Serious Vibes" concert in downtown Miami at the James L. Knight International Center. This is the first of many hurricane relief efforts that will be taking place over the next few months sponsored by various community groups in the So. Florida area and beyond. The record label also declared that if the 5,000 seat venue sells out, Eight 76 Records will double the donation. The September 17th live concert will be headlined by three of reggae's superstar artists: Luciano, Barrington Levy, and Half Pint. Other acts on the lineup include Professor Nuts, Mikey General, Dean Fraser, Evette, Fyah Blaze, and Meeky. Myshjua Archibald, Eight76 Records co-owner and "Serious Vibes" concert co-promoter states, "Many of us in South Florida have roots in the Caribbean, and our hearts and thoughts have been with our families and loved ones in the islands. We are quite fortunate. The sound of gentle rain on a zinc roof may be romantic, but the creaking and groaning of zinc and deadwood fighting to keep it together in 100mph-plus winds is beyond frightening. Rebuilding has to be a combined effort. We are our brother's keeper." Jamaica and the Caribbean basin has sustained major damage form the recent hurricanes in the area over the last month and major emergency relief efforts are needed immediately. This past weekend, Jamaica was one of the Caribbean islands hit hard by Hurricane Ivan, a category five hurricane (strongest on the Saffir-Simpson scale). There is extensive damage to the island with over 20 deaths and many thousands that are homeless due to the catastrophic winds and flooding. The relief efforts are needed for the re-building and aid for those left in the wake of these major hurricanes. Tickets for the "Night of Serious Vibes" concert / benefit are available NOW at all Rankin' Records, VP Records, Rainbow Variety Store, Aquarius Records, the James L. Knight Center Box Office, and all Ticketmaster outlets. The Caribbean Entertainment Group information hotline is (305) 468-9611. We have had so much love on this tour that we can't wait to do other regions with the same kind of concept... Grassroots at its best. Look for a new set of IDC releases in mid-october. Respect to all, and we look forward to hearing from you- Regards- Steffen Franz, aka Stand Out Selector President, Independent Distribution Collective R.A.W. #142 & #194 Press Release to Follow: For Immediate Release: September 15th, 2004 Independent Distribution Collective is Born (and now our doors are open!!!) A fresh, new concept in independent music distribution is set to revolutionize the current form of bringing physical products to market, and in turn, to unite hundreds of independent labels and artists worldwide. Independent Distribution Collective was conceived from the idea that independent record labels and artists have almost always struggled with one major aspect of operation, distribution. Thousands of releases go unnoticed every year as many great projects never even make it into stores, never mind having sales to offset the cost of manufacturing. The time has come for the "underdogs" to approach distribution equal to the other aspects in the process of making albums. It is also clear that many independent labels and artists working together creates a "strength in numbers" perspective that makes Independent Distribution Collective a sales and marketing force, rather than just another one stop. Nine labels currently make up IDC. All of them are totally different genres, with different fanbases and marketing strategies. Each one has a strong knowledge of its home market, in places like the San Francisco "Bay Area", Miami, and even in Cyprus. The main theme that unites these labels is the belief that they could be selling more records if they could participate in the distribution process. All of the labels realize that working together, sharing focus and energy, that each one's sales will increase and create a stronger distribution partner down the road. As each will have a new-found revenue stream, it is IDC's intention that each label can continue to release new projects, thereby feeding the collective's constant need for new product. IDC opens its doors September 15th, 2004, at its new office/warehouse in Oakland, California. Events to promote the opening will include a full scale web launch of independentdistro.com, the collective's website which focuses primarily on wholesale distribution, release and label information, as well as the product submission process. Other events include the IDC "Pressing Flesh" tour from Seattle to San Diego, September 6th through the 14th, covering 3 states, and close to 20 cities in a complete west coast grassroots marketing promotion.
