PLEASE! Date: Friday, August 01, 2003 5:28 AM From: "Tom Pearson" Greetings all! In recent days I have seen a marked increase of submissions for our newsletter "Wha Gwaan in RAW?" that do NOT follow the guidelines suggested, and which have been announced many times. I will REPEAT! Wha Gwaan in RAW? is a strictly TEXT-BASED newsletter. Since we must send out to members of varying computer capabilities, it is necessary to restrict submissions to TEXT ONLY. That means no graphics, color, sound, bells or whistles. No attachments! Anything sent with the above-mentioned extras will be returned to the sender, and WILL NOT BE INCLUDED in WGIR Also, today I received at least four messages submitted in HTML format. Now I realize how cool such announcements can be, but unfortunately, none of those extras (i.e. bolding, italics, underlining, etc) will show up in WGIR, and before I can send a message to Eric for inclusion in WGIR, I have to go through and delete all those commands. That means deleting every
,  , , etc. This is a very time consuming task, and one which I am simply no longer able to do. I have NO idea how messages are sent in HTML, I just know we can't receive them. If you are sending a message in HTML, I will, from this moment forward, return it to you, and ask you to re-send the message in basic no-frills text. So the basic rule for WGIR submissions is: TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT and NOTHING ELSE! The well-suited, cashy individual is quickly embraced, but we may not be as enthusiastic about comfortably dressed people like Robert, Julia and Alicia Roskind who are helping us to amplify our very own philosophy of "One Love". The Roskinds were on vacation in Ocho Rios in the eighties when they became captivated by the 'One Love' message of Jamaica's reggae music, and the global outlook of our National Pledge that focuses on "the advancement of the whole human race". They believe that once Jamaica fully internalises this philosophy of Oneness, we can start a healing process for this troubled world. We need to keep an open mind in this global emergency. We have used the excuse of frail borders and superficial differences to insulate ourselves from other members of the human family. No stronger example of this exists than our disregard for the extreme suffering of our immediate neighbours, our sisters and brothers in Haiti. Knowing little of their courage through the centuries and the sanctions inflicted on them to punish them for it, we are quick to point out their environmental shortcomings, as if this were an excuse to ignore their distress. Acknowledging that we must first touch the hearts of our children, the Roskinds sponsored 30 concerts in schools throughout Jamaica featuring Abijah, and they have worked with the media to broadcast live concerts with such artistes as Luciano, Ernie Smith and Denroy Morgan. For those who cannot understand the power of music, let me say that I worked with Tony Rebel on the Peace, Love & Unity song for the 2002 general elections. The records were distributed through the late Louise Fraser-Bennett of the Sound Systems Association of Jamaica, and selectors fed back to us that the song diffused political tension in some of the toughest parts of town. The Roskinds have more respect for Jamaica than many of her own people. Roskind (who calls himself Ras-Kind) contacted me after he read my piece, 'Spanish Town Will Rise', recounting the brave efforts of Spanish Town Mayor Raymoth Notice. He is organising a "Heal the Nation" concert next month, and wants to take the performance to Spanish Town. So strong is his belief in the miraculous power of reggae music. Julia and Robert Roskind are successful authors, known throughout the US as leading producers of self-help programmes and publications. They believe we have a special gift: "Jamaicans are already some of the most loving people in the world, perhaps the most loving. Any Jamaican that has travelled abroad, and any foreigner who has come to know your people as we have, can testify to this." Well do I remember Nelson Mandela looking around him on his arrival in Jamaica and proclaiming, "This is the happiest day of my life!" "When God gave out geographic assignments," believes Roskind, "Jamaicans got the bonus. In the US, we have the things but things do not make people happy. Here you have the heart vibes and that does make people happy. Jamaica has the most fertile soil for One Love to grow." Roskind is determined to spread his belief in Jamaica's five miracles, four already accomplished: . Jamaica is the birthplace of a very powerful global message of One Love. . This message is almost exclusively Jamaican. . The entire Jamaican society has birthed this message. . It is miraculous that the message is one of love rather than bitterness and frustration. "Jamaica is the only place on Earth today that people everywhere, through their love of reggae music, look to as a focus of love and healing. Even religious capitals such as Jerusalem, the Vatican and Mecca can no longer make that claim." believes Roskind. "Jamaica is the headquarter, and more importantly, the "heartquarter," of One Love." He quotes Indian Guru Shri Shri Ananamurti, India's most revered spiritual leader, who visited Jamaica years before the end of communism, his only trip outside of his country. His disciples asked him why Jamaica and he answered, "You cannot see into the future, but I can. One day communism and The Berlin Wall will fall. After that capitalism will falter and the world will seem chaotic. During this time, people worldwide will look to Jamaica for spiritual guidance. Jamaica will glow like a light in the sea." And so, Robert and Julia Roskind are now hoping for the Fifth Miracle: "to now heal the country with love and forgiveness. by doing one simple thing: to forgive as many people as they can (including themselves), as soon as they can, as much as they can and to encourage others to do likewise." The Roskinds' self-help books are best-sellers: In the Spirit of Marriage, a book to empower couples; In The Spirit of Business: A Guide to Creating Harmony in your Work, Building Your Own House and Before You Build. Here is an excerpt from : In the Spirit of Business: "It is a commonly and easily accepted concept that many national recessions are caused or deepened and extended, not by the financial realities of the country's economy, but rather by the people's confidence level in, and perceptions of, their nation's economy at the time. once the climate is set, it tends to solidify and justify these thoughts and emotions." This makes sense, as corporate gurus will tell you that cynicism retards profitability. Their slogans speak of love and caring: "We care", "We do care", "Our only concern is you", "We make living affordable", "Solid, safe, secure." Roskind points out that the USA has all types of crimes and criminals, yet the country has never defined itself in terms of these hoodlums. Jamaica should not define itself by the aberrant, he believes. "Everyone here knows that this dishonour does not reflect the true nature of this magical island." Our politicians, artists, and leaders in all sectors of Jamaica are brilliant individuals who can match and often exceed world standards. We are looking to them to lead us on a local and ultimately global mission of healing. lowriechin@netscape.net Link: The 'One Love' Mission of the Roskinds URL: http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/columns/html/20040927T010000-0500_66658_OBS_THE__ ONE_LOVE__MISSION_OF_THE_ROSKINDS.asp [5] !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >From Rudegal (R.A.W. #) Subject: Mr Easy & Kevin Lyttle - DRIVE ME CRAZY Date: Mon, 27 Sep 2004 07:55:06 -0700 From: Promoters Management Contact: RudeGal rudegal@rudegal.com 909-227-RUDE (7833) MR EASY is finally in the right place at the right time! A little reggae hub sitting up top of the mountains. Argh! can't believe that Autumn is here already. I haven't got enough of summer yet although I am a bit burned out on the camping festivals. They are fun but wow, what a lot of work. Speaking of festivals, my hat is off to the next generation of festival producers: Amy Shapas, Heidi Ogle, Sarah Hill and Sean Phillips who were a major part of the production team for the Dreadstock festival that was held in Vallejo last week and also Sierra Nevada World Music Festival and several of the Renegade festivals. These four young people have been working side-by-side with me for the past 10 years and now they just step in and do festival production perfectly. I am so proud of them. Lotsa reggae so mark your calendar: Friday, October 1, see the darling Joseph Hill and CULTURE - I just love that man, also his wife Pauline. But the big buzz is that CAPLETON AND COCO TEA are playing with them two nights in a row. Ya know, Capleton got cancelled out of Reggae in the Park in San Francisco because he his anti-gay. The first time I saw him in Jamaica, the crowd when beserk. They loved him. Quite a show. So for Tahoe, this show is THIS FRIDAY at Club Breeze, Tahoe Biltmore, Crystal Bay, NV (north shore Tahoe). Doors are at 9:30/Showtime 10:00pm. Tickets are $20 advance and $25 day of show. 21 and over. AND ANOTHER SHOW WITH CAPLETON! Saturday, October 2 -CULTURE with CAPLETON AND COCO TEA Harlows, Sacramento - $27.50 advance/$30 day of show Doors 8:30/Showtime 9:00. 21 and over Okay, now here is my big problem: do I go to these shows or do I go to Reggae In the Park in San Francisco? Of course CAPLETON AND COCOA TEA won't be in S.F. They were essentially banned from the show. My other big problem, is HOW DO YOU SPELL COCOA TEA? I am the publisher of a reggae magazine so you would think that I am the authority? Not! Every other web site says Coco or Cocoa. Let me know if you know for sure. That's October and in November so far we have: STEEL PULSE On Friday, November 5. Opening band has not been announced yet my William Morris Agency. This show is at Caesars Showroom, South Lake Tahoe which is on the California/Nevada border. Tickets are $25/Showtime 9pm. And I mean 9pm. This is casino and it is run promptly. All ages are welcome at this Grand ballroom so bring the kids.
