(R.A.W.) Subject:: A FRIENDLY CHALLENGE TO RAW MEMBERSDate: Sat, 30 Jul 2005 10:37:00 -0700 From: "UpFlite Music (Canada Office)" (THE FOLLOWING WAS RECENTLY POSTED ON THE R.A.W. E-MAIL FORUM) Greetings R.A.W. members, I've been away from R.A.W. for a while but, now that I am back, I see that the same dichotomies exist. The recent flurry of emails in the Forum is indicative of the situation... members voice their frustration with the current state-of-affairs but noone steps up to personally usher positive change... the Board responds with frustrations about lack of volunteerism but does not, itself, lead by example. From there, after everyone has vented, things quieten down again and little if anything has been achieved. The fact that the bylaws remain a work-in-progress after 18 months is clearly not a desirable state-of-affairs, nor that it's being used as a rationale for Board inaction, however, when the bylaws are finally complete and a protocol for an election is in place will RAW be ready to chart its future? Forethought and vision are required. What kind of things would you, R.A.W.'s members, like to see in R.A.W.'s future? If the Board is not in prepared (or in a position) to lead then the membership must point the direction. Recent emails have come from Sista Irie, Evan, Danny and Roots-ee... what would you have the Board do? What would you like to see done? How about the other R.A.W. members who receive this email forum or WGIR but do not participate? Your thoughts and opinions would be welcomed and appreciated because RAW's weakness is apathy. So let us not focus entirely upon the present but, instead, plan and have vision for the near future. I lay a *friendly* challenge down to each and every member who receives this message. Reply to me (at@upflite.com) or to the Email Forum with THREE things you would most like to see happen with R.A.W. in the near future. You're not being asked to volunteer anything more than a scant three ideas. Here are my three (though I could easily write more): 1. There are a number of specific items that I would like to see within the bylaws which include having meaningful bylaws which allows the membership to elect a Board Of Directors to represent them, having a protocol in place for the membership to democratically ammend bylaw articles, and having measurable accountability for all Board Members. 2. I would like to see more organized interaction between the different R.A.W. membership categories. For example, organized interaction between the "Radio Deejays" and the "Performing Artists" as well as organized interaction between "Committed Reggae Fans" and both the "Performing Arists" and "Labels". 3. I would like to see R.A.W. take advantage of technology to better organize, streamline and promote itself. Everything from proper databases, to e-commerce, and beyond. So there you have it. I look forward to learning the vision of others or perhaps even having to rationalize my own should I be asked to. Regards, A.T.
