If you're looking for dancehall DJ chat with a mid to late 80's flavour, but backed by hard 21st century beats, "Big Dance A Keep" should provide for you. "Freeman" is one of three recently repackaged albums from roots veteran Winston Rodney aka Burning Spear. "Good Vibes Connection" is a very nice collection of tunes featuring a notable amount of new artists. "Roots Supplement: Nature At It's Best Part 1" is a marvellous, although probably hard-to-find compilation of Gussie P productions. Germaican Records' Pionear and Germany's dancehall caballeros Seeed have teamed up again for "Rodeo", which is another pumping dancehall riddim. Urban Tribe have been added to our profiles section. As you may remember from a past newsletter, this confederacy was formed centuries before the colonists landed when five warring Iroquois tribes (Seneca, Cayuga, Oneida, Mohawk and Onondaga) made peace and joined together in the world's first true democracy. The Founding Fathers of the U.S. studied this confederacy and patterned their democracy after it. This Iroquois Confederacy was formed by the vision of The Peacemaker, a Huron Indian and an outsider, who brought the Great Law of Peace - the law of peace and forgiveness - to the five warring tribes and established their union. To do this, he enlisted the help of many including Jikonsahseh (the Peace Mother), and Hiawatha, an eloquent Onondaga chief. For more info on this epic, click below. CLICK HERE FOR THE PEACEMAKER EPIC http://www.mynewsletterbuilder.com/tools/view_newsletter.php?newsletter_id=1409552883 BRINGING THE MESSAGE OF ONE LOVE TO THE INNER CITY We travelled to the Iroquois Territory to speak at the Onondaga Lake Peace Festival, on the lake just outside the city. The festival was held at Long Branch Park which is the spot where The Peacemaker held the first Grand Council once all the Iroquois chiefs agreed to live in peace. It was here that the Iroquois Confederacy, the model for all future democracies, was formed. This is sacred ground as is anyplace on Earth where ancient hatreds have become present loves. Conscious Jamaican artist Abijah, who was performing at the Montreal Reggae Festival the week before, joined us along with his road manager, Tony. We all arrived several days before the festival to do a series of free One Love Concerts throughout the Syracuse area, especially into the inner-city areas. JULIA WITH THE YOUTHS AT THE CANNON STREET COMMUNITY CENTER http://www.rastaheart.com WORKING WITH LOCAL HEALERS Festival organizer David Yarrow and community organizer Jake Roberts arranged our tour through the city. Our first event was at Cannon Street Community Center, a new community center in a predominantly African-American area of Syracuse. As always, our message is the same. We invited the children to join us on the path Home - the path of One Love. We reminded them that all other paths lead us astray and that the Path Home is always accessible to us - no matter what our life circumstances or what we have done in our past or what was done to us. Only the path of love returns us to the Creator and is our individual Path that He has assigned to us. COMMUNITY ORGANIZER JAKE ROBERTS WITH ABIJAH http://www.rastaheart.com LOCAL ARTISTS JOINED OUR TOUR Several local musicians joined us at the concerts, including recording artist Ashley Cox and members of the Red Sea Band. All performers, coordinators and speakers worked for free. Our second event was at the Dunbar Center's summer program of about 100 children. It was really moving to see the commitment of the staff to these children, reminding us that local healers are everywhere. LOCAL RECORDING ARTIST ASHLEY COX http://www.rastaheart.com REACHING THE YOUTHS Often the message of love and forgiveness is best received by the young who may not have yet experienced many heartbreaks. Also, many youths are being raised by electronic elders (television and pop music) which has little wisdom to impart and in many ways to lead them astray. The message of love and forgiveness - of leading an "upful" life - is being drowned out by the relentless and frenetic energy that now invades many of our lives. Our concerts into the early schools are often our most enthusiuastic. SINGING "ONE LOVE" WITH THE KIDS AT THE DUNBAR CENTER PROGRAM http://www.rastaheart.com CONCERT IN DOWNTOWN SYRACUSE Later in the week, Jake Roberts organized a public concert in a park in downtown Syracuse. Members of Red Sea and other local musicians (Germano, James, John, Brown, James, and Ras Adam) backed Abijah. During our tour, the press was very cooperative, including three large articles in the local paper and three appearances on local TV. Over the week, we addressed audiences large and small. However, the press helped us get the message out to almost everyone. Our thanks to Madis Senner and Christina Pearce for helping with the PR. ABIJAH & FESTIVAL ORGANIZER DAVID YARROW (IN WHITE SHIRT) http://www.rastaheart.com TO THE MANY OR THE FEW During the week, we did seven One Love Concerts and interacted with many local healers. At night there were rehearsals and some social time with our local sponsors. Some audiences were large, others small but we reminded everyone that just as a few can create mass destruction, so can a few create mass healing. A handful of true peacemakers working diligently in Syracuse can heal the city. ABIJAH ADDRESSING A NEIGHBORHOOD GROUP http://www.rastaheart.com BRINGING THE MESSAGE BEHIND THE WALLS Perhaps one of most powerful experiences was at the downtown detention center, where around 700 people are held awaiting trial. Abijah, Jake and I spoke to a live audience of about 100 while it was simulcast to the other 600 people in the facility. I began my talk with, "Greetings, our brothers and sisters, whom the Creator has sent behind these walls to teach his love." We reminded them that they can claim themselves as teachers of love, even behind prison walls. Abijah, who like many there was raised in an inner-city, was great at explaining to them the faulty thinking that may have lead them into problems. ABIJAH AT THE DETENTION CENTER http://www.rastaheart.com ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL HEALERS HAD A GUN ON HIS HIP One of the most powerful healers we met was Captain John Woloszyn, the program director for the detention center. When we arrived, he was there to greet us with a welcoming smile, saying, "As soon as I saw this come across my desk, I knew I wanted you guys to come and speak here." This was very welcome since our event at another detention center had been cancelled earlier in the week when prison officials changed their minds an hour before we were to appear. When I told the audience of detainees that Captain Woloszyn had told us that after 18 years, he loved his work and that as far as he was concerned "everyone here was innocent until proven otherwise and deserved respect and kindness," the entire group erupted in loud applause. A true healer at work. ABIJAH WITH CAPTAIN/DEACON WOLOSZYN http://www.rastaheart.com ENCOUNTERING ALL VIBRATIONS Our final concerts/reasoning was at the Onondaga Lake Peace Festival, which David Yarrow has designed to honor The Peacemaker, his message and the Iroquois Confederacy, and to resanctify this sacred spot. The crowd was small but heartfelt and the speakers and musicians brought forward a clear message in the spirit of The Peacemaker. As the week progressed, we encountered the four archetypal energies within the Peacemaker's epic - that of The Peacemaker, Hiawatha, Tadodaho and Jikonoseseh. The visionary Peacemaker brought the message that all humans should live together in peace and love. Jinkonsahseh, a woman who had fed all warriors and encourged their conflict by being fascinated by their war stories, was the first to accept The Peacemaker's law. She then become the Peace Mother, assisting all in resolving their conflicts peacefully instead of egging them on. Hiawatha, an Onondaga chief, had once been a man of love and kindness. However, after years of war, Hiawatha succumbed to his anger and pain and became violent himself, especially after his family was killed by Tadodaho, another Onondaga chief who was known as repulsive and violent, with kinks in his body and snakes in his hair. After seeing the love in the face of The Peacemaker, Hiawatha remembered that he too was meant to be a man of peace and he joined The Peacemaker and Jikonsahseh in bringing the law to the warring tribes. In an act of supreme forgiveness, Hiawatha forgave Todadaho for killing his family and, along with The Peacemaker and Jikonsahseh, they combed the kinks from Tadodaho's mind and body. When Tadodaho was finally also in his "Good Mind," peace was completed and the Iroquois League of Nations was begun. All those living in democracies have been blessed by their efforts. ARTIST MARCINE QUENZER TELLING THE STORY OF THE PEACEMAKER THROUGH HER PAINTINGS http://www.marcinequenzer.com THE PATH TO BECOMING A PEACEMAKER We encountered all the various vibrations on our journey that retraced The Peacemaker's footsteps. Some people, like the teachers at the Dunbar Center and Captain Woloszyn, carried the vibration of The Peacemaker, bringing a clear message of peace through their personal example. Through their loving faces, many were reminded that they too were sent to teach and learn the Creator's love. Some came under the vibration of Jikonsahseh, having going astray by tacitly supporting others in conflict instead of leading people to peaceful resolutions. These people quickly embraced the message of of love and forgiveness when they heard it and reclaimed themselves as teachers of love. We also encountered others under the spirit of Hiawatha. They had become embittered and disillusioned towards others whom they felt had harmed them and towards the general state of affairs in the world. They, too, reclaimed themselves after being reminded of their Divine destiny as peacemakers. Many of the local community leaders we worked with had developed splintered relationships with each other, something that can often happen in the healing community. Though their events spoke of peace, their relationships spoke of conflict and strife. As the week progressed, we witnessed the upset and disharmony this can create. Even the spirit of the Tadodaho - meanspirited, vengeful and attacking - emerged at times, effecting the vibrations of all it touched. Each of these vibrations are within us but only that of The Peacemaker represents who we truly are. We must all pass through these first three levels - Tadodaho, Hiawatha and Jikonsahseh - to remember who we really are - Peacemakers. It is a lifelong journey that leads us Home. JULIA AT THE ONONDAGA LAKE PEACE FESTIVAL http://www.rastaheart.com COMBING OUT EACH OTHER'S KINKS However, we also watched ourselves come under the spirit of all. At times we were, like The Peacemaker, outsiders bringing the Great Law of Peace to warring tribes. Sometimes we came under the vibration of Jikonsahseh, needing to be reminded that we amplify the "warrior vibration" by supporting people's anger rather than leading them out of it. Other times, like Hiawatha, we were reminded of our calling by seeing the loving faces and deeds of others. And, we even at times watched the Tadodaho within ourselves emerge, full of anger, judgment and thoughts of revenge. By the time we left Syracuse after 7 days, we had witnessed and come under the influence of all the four vibrations and we had all helped combed some of the kinks out of each other. CLOSING THE FESTIVAL WITH "ONE LOVE" http://www.rastaheart.com BRINGING THE MESSAGE TO WOODSTOCK >From Syracuse, Julia and I travelled nearby to Woodstock, NY, where we had been invited to speak at a Bob Marley Film Evening put on by Nathan Koenig and Shelli Lipron, who run the Woodstock Museum. This area has always been known as a place of healing, especially after being the home of the 1969 "Woodstock Festival - Three Days of Music, Love & Peace." The area is beautiful and the people we worked with were in a very supportive vibe and working well together in the true "spirit of Woodstock." JULIA AT A STREAM IN WOODSTOCK http://www.woodstockmuseum.org A MOHAWK HEALER We also met a Mohawk, Rainbow Weaver, who gave the opening prayer at our talk. Rainbow Weaver has brought the Great Law of Peace to the troubled youths in the area through a program she has developed on building dreamcatchers. She taught them the "Good Mind," which is best described an Onondaga Clanmother, Freida Jean Jacques: "While we actively become aware of our thoughts, especially those that have a kind and loving intent, we naturally allow ourselves to become spiritually in tune with the Creator's wishes. This allows us to use our talents to fulfill our purpose on Earth. This is my motivation to follw the Good Mind. When it is time to leave this earth, I would like to feel that I fulfilled the purpose that the Creator sent me here to accomplish." THE CREW AT THE WOODSTOCK MUSEUM http://www.rastaheart.com CONCERTS ON THE HOPI & HAVASUPAI RESERVATIONS ON LABOR DAY WEEKEND Our next events will be on Labor Day weekend. We will be travelling to the Four Corners area of Arizona along with Abijah and several healers from Jamaica including Elaine Wint, a popular conscious talk show host. On Friday, September 2, we will do another "Respect Is Due Havasupai Concert" on the Havasupai Reservation on the bottom of the Grand Canyon for the tribe. On Saturday and Sunday, Karen Abieta (Sister Parrot) the Hopi reggae DJ is organizing a two day reggae festival with Abijah, Sergeant Juggler, and other regge artists.
