Requirements are: 1) must be able to arrive in Angel's Camp on Thursday June 17th to help set up the booth. I will be departing from San Francisco Thursday morning, and can provide transport. 2) must be able to stay through Sunday night June 20th to help break down. I will be returning to San Francisco Monday morning and can provide transport. 3) Willingness to chip in on gas costs for above transport is greatly appreciated. 4) Have two double rooms tentatively booked in Murphys which is about a 15 minute ride from the festival site. One room is already confirmed with lodgers. At this point, the second double is not. Room costs to be shared among those to use them. No requirement of staying at this hotel. If interested in sleeping at the campsite, space is available to sleep in the booth at night.....or not as you so please. 5) Willingness to man the R.A.W. booth and provide information to those who ask about R.A.W., and hospitality to all, especially those who are R.A.W. members. Time to be spent at the booth to be shared between three people in total, schedule to be determined by those three people. Booth is traditionally near the smaller stage, so it is possible that you might miss one or two of the Reggae bands playing on the other stage. But ideal schedule tries to let everyone see some of who they want to see. Important thing is that there is always someone at the booth. In exchange I can offer ONE Vendor pass (general admission only, sorry no back stage access included) for the three days of the festival. Please let me know if you are interested as soon as possible. First come first served. Yow! Two roots riddims from the latter part of 2004, the DROP LEAF and the HARD TIMES have taken control of New Mexico for the month of April. While both have had tunes in these charts before, none of the BOOM tracks really made it yet; so they are long-overdue. Time to make way for TOK's conscious anthem "Footprints", Jah Cure's sincere "Longing For" ("What am I longing for? Babylon release the Cure!") and the killer tracks on ET Thompson's last project (before he passed on in November 2004) the HARD TIMES, by the likes of I-Wayne, Capleton, Bushman & Bascom X. Further roots tracks abound in these charts, as new cultural sensation Fantan Mojah is finally let loose in NM. He has two entries, one being his big hit "Hungry" on the ONE DANCE WONT DO riddim, yet his "Don't Bow Out" is even stronger, with lyrics like: "Ghetto youths don't bow out! Watch what you put inna yuh mouths, watch what yuh snort inna yuh nose...." Heavy stuff. On the same riddim, newcomer Bescenta coins another excellent track, which hit the #9 spot this time around. Further roots-monsters include Damian "Junior Gong" Marley's "Welcome To Jamrock"; a tune that simply rips the dancehall apart from the first second the needle touches it (at #2), as well as Buju's new single "Magic City". More roots tunes, as Richie Spice's selection on the TRUTHS&RIGHTS riddim are just bubbling under. I also need to mention newcomer Evette's earworm-track entitled "Baby Mama". Nice lyrics, a positive vibes and a catchy beat make this one of the tunes of the month. Once it's stuck in YOUR head, it wont be likely to leave so easily again. Big ups to Evette! Nice one!!! On the dancehall tip, Cham & Nina Sky lost their #1 spot, although the KOPA riddim is still going strong, due to the new tunes out (like Bounty's track at #20). Don Corleon's hype new riddim, the JONKANOO is mashing up things these days, represented by Sean Paul, Beenie Man and TOK and I look for further tunes to chart in the future. The APPLAUSE riddim hasn't reached this neck of the woods yet but we're working on it; how bout Greensleeves pickin this one up for a next riddim album, eh?! Paul Bogle's (RIP) "Scare A Mi" (the flipside of his "Wacky World" single with Delly Ranks) has hit the big-time in NM, while Cobra's "Dem Fool Deh" on the extravangant BOMB-A-DROP beat slid down to #16. Other tunes on that one by Kartel & Matterhorn are just bubbling under. Last but not least, Birch's heavyweight MILITARY riddim finally jumps on board in the form of Macka Diamond's wicked "Mr.Tekki Back". Hope to have given you enough new stuff to consider, check out, etc, as Jamaican music production appears to be kicking into over-drive again at this time, with TONS of new material out every week. The Wailers will perform at the Reno Hilton on Saturday, May 14 for an all-ages show. Rock-Pop-Latin band deSol will open the show at 9pm. Recognized throughout the world as the architect of reggae, 3Familyman2 created a music genre that rose to world domination when he teamed up with Bob Marley as his bassist and musical director. 3Familyman2 and his band, The Wailers, have continued to tour the world leaving no doubt that the musical legacy he and Bob Marley created. As The Wailers embark on yet another tour of the world, 3Familyman2 has pushed the limits of The Wailers, by assembling original band members that toured with Bob Marley making this reunion an unprecedented musical event. The name Wailers first applied to groups led by Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Livingston in the mid-sixties, when ska was the ruling sound in Jamaican music. By the end of the decade this triumvirate had teamed up with the Barrett brothers and begun to dominate the early reggae scene, recording untold hits for producer Lee 3Scratch2 Perry. After signing to Island Records in 1971, the name Wailers referred to Bob Marley9s backing band. When Peter and Bunny then left the group two years later, it was officially passed onto Aston 3Familyman2 Barrett and his late brother Carlton, who died in 1987. Bob Marley and The Wailers would then go on to break musical history by selling well over 250 million records worldwide. Clearly, 3Familyman2 is the sole beneficiary of The Wailers9 mantle and whilst other long-standing members still record and tour with the band, it is Marley9s former bassist and musical arranger, 3Familyman2, who continues to spearhead his musical legacy. In summary, The Wailers Band remains the world9s ultimate roots rock reggae outfit. No other aggregation can match them for either the depth or quality of their hit songs, or their widespread appeal. The cap still fits, and yes, the crowd still wants more. DeSol is a six-piece Latin-pop-rock band of international musicians that are often compared to early Santana. Advance tickets are available at the Reno Hilton Box Office, at all Ticketmaster outlets and at Ticketmaster.com.
