Subject: The "KRucial" Metro-Boston Reggae Update First and foremost, mark your calendars for next MONDAY, May 30th - all roads lead to Cambridge, MA - the Middle East Downstairs (_www.mideastclub.com)_ (http://www.mideastclub.com)/) will be hosting the band & harmony legends: CULTURE, featuring Joseph Hill - with an opening showcase by DUB STATION with various artists (including King-I and more). This is an 18+ event & and the DJ/selector will be Junior Rodigan. Doors are at 8pm, showtime is at 9pm, and the event ends 12:30am - so come EARLY! A limited number of advance tickets are available from the Middle East Box Office (492-9181); Ticketmaster.com (617-931-2000); Irie Jamaican Restaurant (617-929-3866); and Vibes Records (617-265-0929). Scroll down for more information about CULTURE. FYI, with a history of nearly 10 years Reggae Sundays at Bill's Bar (on Landsdowne Street in Boston) is now 19+, and the stage show's starting early, before 11pm (instead of around midnight, as it used to be) - and ending before 1am (after which DJ K-Don & Triple-C continue till 2) - so let the younger ones know and don't mind that Monday's a work day: we've got a great calendar coming up! Check it out: - this Sunday(May 22)'s, female artist LADY LEE (how often does that happen!) - next Memorial Day Sunday (May 29): SHAKA BLACK ...and, coming up in June, Abijah will be performing live at Bill's Sunday (6/12); and Father's Day (6/19) will feature King-I. A bit more on Culture: certainly one of the few groups that most influenced my own interest in Reggae, I'll never forget first hearing (then listening & relistening to) the seminal albums Two Sevens Clash & International Herb. I interviewed Joseph Hill for Rhythm Music Magazine: he said (and I paraphrase) "the singers were the birds, and the DJ's were picking up after the birds." As you can imagine, it takes a lot to live up to a name like "Culture" - which this band has done for 25 years - incorporating new sounds & a contemporary feel in each of their new releases. Not to be missed! PS. KRucial is considering getting involved in the promotion of the Summer Jam all-day affair July 9 at Suffolk Downs, featuring the return of Buju Banton; Luciano; Toots; and Elephant Man, to name a few - big show! Supporting LIVE, cultural Reggae!
