After a far too long hiatus we are back with a new Guestbook. This time we have included some Spam Protection to keep the mess out of the guestbook. Anyway, feel free to leave your mark in our guestbook, but please refrain from abuse and offensive language. Visit our online shopping mall where you can buy cd's, dvd's, used cd's, Bob Marley merchandise, ringtones, posters and much more. Attention promoters and anyone who is looking for artists/bands/soundsystems to book them for their planned festivals and shows!! On our bookings page you'll find : BB Seaton, Luciano, Mikey General, Yami Bolo, Panache Culture, Panach' Inna Dub, Bob Marley Tribute Band, and Reggae Vibes Sound. "Jamaica's Weekly Top 20 (Singles) Hit List" - plus soundclips - is featured on our site. Also check Teacher & Mr. T's "Hot'n'Fresh Top 10". "Rhythm Streetz Series #5 ~ Seasons" is a 'one riddim' set of all killer no filler tunes. Little Roy is back with a new album entitled "Children Of The Most High". "Joe Gibbs Presents Inner City Roots" features solid riddims, talented new comers and enough solid to excellent songs, which makes this collection of tunes worthwhile checking out. Mad Professor has produced his fair share of cerebral works over the last ten years with Mafia and Fluxy, and here's the lastest... "New Galaxy Of Dub ~ Sci Fi Part Two". Earl 16's new album, "Wake Up", is recommended for those who love very faithful, very orthodox, very strictly structured ROOTS music, as it was made in the late 70's. Troy McLean and Garfield Hamilton once again teamed up with Christopher 'Longman' Birch for their most recent riddim "First Prize", now released in VP Records' Riddim Driven series. "You Should Know" is pure magic, and the most slept-over acoustic riddim of the past 12 months. "All Shook Up ~ A Reggae Tribute To The King" features 24 cover versions of Elvis tunes, performed by Jamaican artists including Bob Andy, John Holt, Cornell Campbell, Susan Cadogan and many more. New photos have been added to our Picture Gallery: Bob Andy, Echo Minott, Prince Buster, Leroy Sibbles and Ossie Dellimore. **** Last week's updates at http://www.reggae-vibes.com **** "The Good, The Bad & The Blazing" is an extremely satisfying Brotherman produced '3 the hard way' album, featuring Junior Kelly, Bounty Killer & Capleton. It has taken Mikey Dread twenty-seven years to reissue his 1978 released debut album "Evolution Rockers" aka "Dread At The Controls" on cd. "Roots Of Dancehall ~ Anthology 1982-2005" brings together a notable amount of fine dancehall hits performed by Echo Minott. The compilation album "Ariwa Sounds 81 Sessions" gives you an insight into Mad Professor's progression. Cedric "Congo" Myton's "Inna De Yard" is not perfect -- but at its best, it is a compelling and moving work, and is unreservedly recommended. The third album release from The Amharic, entitled "Descendants", is excellent! Promising young German artist Maxim delivers an excellent full length debut album. "Zum Zum Hits - King of Dancehall Reggae (2005)" is a Japanese import CD featuring sixteen tracks from dancehall heavyweights. "London 2 Paris" is L.M.S.'s rather disappointing fourth album release. "Clothes Drop" is the latest studio album from Jamaican-born, New York-based dancehall/pop stalwart Shaggy. "Reggae Music Itinually"... An interview with Hugo Blackwood... By Peter I. THIS AND MUCH MORE AT : http://www.reggae-vibes.com (c) 2005 Reggae Vibes Productions [7] *=*=*=*=*=*=*= *=*=*=*=*=*=*= *=*=*=*=*=*=*= >From: Michael Kuelker (R.A.W. #1190) Subject: human rights & Jamaica: R.A.W. assistance enlisted Date: Wed, 16 Nov 2005 21:57:54 EST From: MJKuelker@aol.com Greetings to the RAW members: Why do we still celebrate the music of Peter Tosh or Bob Marley? In part because songs like "Equal Rights" and "War" and "Get Up Stand Up" remain timely and vitalizing and because the artists who composed them saw music as a means to transmit messages in a liberation movement. If you're like me, you've been inspired by reggae music's social justice themes, and one of the directions that inspiration has taken me is to the study and teaching of human rights. I have recently been appointed to a volunteer position in Amnesty International USA's Country Specialist Program with the task of monitoring human rights issues in and doing advocacy work regarding Jamaica. I'm sharing this news with you because I need your help. Many of you may be in a position to link me with people to contact or things to read as I do this work. While I am well acquainted with Jamaica through travel, research, fieldwork and writing, I always need to know more. Send me data, introduce me to people. Two Jamaican human rights issues in the news are homophobic violence and police misconduct. They are the subjects, as you may know, of national dialogue in Jamaica and have received increasing attention from rights organizations abroad. I hope to broaden and deepen the work Amnesty International is doing not only regarding these issues but others. AI recently formalized a mission to advocate for the "full spectrum" of rights (the older model emphasized political prisoners), and this encourages us to think inclusively about the interrelationships of civil and political rights and social, economic and cultural rights. A friend told me recently an appalling story of prison conditions at General Penitentiary in Kingston. That "GP" is an awful place is not news, but what my friend described went beyond what's been formally documented. With the new appointment I am in a position to try to verify information and send it up the chain in an organization that has a loud voice. No nation can be healthy or safe unless its criminal justice system lives up to the name. Human rights education happens wherever we learn about our rights and the rights of others in a framework of participatory democracy. Let us do what we can to shake the tree. I know Reggae Ambassadors Worldwide has many activists with commitment and experience, which is why I call on you. I thank you for being part of that effort and look forward to keeping in touch.
