It was a busy summer for the band.... starting at the Summer Arts Festival in Benbow Lake - Humboldt County CA... then next weekend they won the "Bammies" here in N Ca for the "Best reggae Band" of the N Bay They then headlined the 2nd stage @ Sierra Nevada World Music Festival bring a special guest with them, Winston Jarrett... there is a small blurb of this in the latest "Beat" magazine Vol #24, #5, page #34... The Summer Festival Issue... They then left for a 7 week tour of Europe playing at most of the biggest festivals over there.... There is a Great write up on page 37 of the same "Beat" magazine re their performance at "Summerjam", Europe's largest Reggae Festival.. "Another great experience was the American band Groundation from California, who with a deep-felt and honest attitude played roots reggae with a blend of dub and jazz. They were probally the best act at this years Summer Jam and a big surprise for the European audience, who hardly knew them before. People were cheering and shouting for more, but since it was after cerfew for live music, they were not allowed to play on. Let's hope to see Groundation more often in Europe." Back in N Ca in Sept , they played the "Organic Planet Festival in Eureka CA, Dreadstock in Vallejo, and a couple other shows before leaving again 10/3/05 for another 3 week tour of Europe..... where they are today. Upon their return from Europe on the 25th of this month, they will then be heading out the next day for 2 weeks in Brazil... coming back to Ca to play 2 shows before leaving for a 2 week Hawaii tour....(all confirmed tour dates are below.... waiting on last Brazil dates to be confirmed as we speak) They will then go into the studio to work on a new release called "Dub Wars" ( a dub cd from Hebron Gate & We Free Again) note the ad on the 1st page of the latest "Beat", this should be released in February of 06. This will co-incide with their Annual Bob Marley Tribute tour.. this years tour will feature Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace on drums, and Will Bernard on lead guitar... March thru May they will be in studio once again working on their next release.... There will be a DVD coming around the 1st of June... a documentary/live performance from the last European tour. This is in support of their next tour thru Europe June 1, 06 thru mid July. Then, finally, I get the chance to put them out on their 1st US tour (YAY)mid July thru September 06.... and any and all help supporting this tour will be greatly appreciated... I can't wait to get the band out there for you all to finally see..... October of 06, is the tent: release date for their next new release... November & December will see them back in Europe again... where they are very popular... their "Hebron Gate" cd was Grammy nominated in Germany last year. I hope this was not too long winded for you all, but I do want to keep you informed of whats up with the band, and to let you know, they are looking forward to playing for you all..... Please have patience, and thank you all so much for all your continued support of Young Tree Records and the band Groundation..... Here is the latest tour info.... Also included in the nights festivities is Matt Jones, an amazing local artist who paints to live music. Midnite always sell out at the door, so buy your tickets early! Tickets Available at: Streetlight Records in Santa Cruz. And online at www.inticketing.com or call 866-384-3060 Hailing from the Island of St Croix, Midnite is one of the most promising roots reggae bands of the millennium. They are vanguards of conscious reggae whose profound and innovative lyrics are sincere and deeply rooted. Their cd recordings and live performances will have reggae and non reggae listeners open to the messages they bring. Lead singer Vaughn Benjamin's electrifying voice seems an amalgamation of many great voices in reggae--soulful, chanting, edgy. Vaughn's potent lyrical style and his brother Ron's exquisite keyboards and musical directorship form the nucleus of this musical quintet. Midnite weaves the cultural lyrics of "old school" roots music with modern day experiences to create a unique listening encounter. Reggae - naked and raw is an apt description for Midnite's musical style, in which they forgo the frills of extensive remixes, overdubbing and other musical refinements. Midnite explodes in live performances with sets that often exceed 3 hours. Their vigorous, weighty sound, driven by the punchy bass lines creates a vibe that penetrates straight to the heart. These epic musical communions have earned Midnite an enormous following throughout the roots community. This is especially true in St. Croix, Puerto Rico, Brazil, St. Louis and here on the West Coast where they have toured extensively. Matt Jones is a self-taught artist from Santa Cruz. Music is Matts muse to create and channel art. Whether it is live music or not, it is a vehicle for creating the state of mind in which he needs to be in to paint. His favorite band is Midnite, and he painted to them for the first time at the Monterey Bay Reggae Festival this year. For Matt it is an honor to paint to them again. He has also painted live at Earthdance for the last two years and has just been invited to paint next year at Reggae on the River. He has also painted Live to Ozomatli, Universal Language, Culture & Luna Groove. Matt Jones is currently participating in "Open Studios" Artist 111 (905 Daniel Ct. Santa Cruz) Oct. 15&16 11am to 6pm.
