I'm glad she is safe so I'm sending this for any other musicians you may know or for musicians reading this who need help. Here is what they wrote back, I think it would be helpful to post for New Orleans and any musicians that need help in the Hurricane Katrina affected areas. Thanks, Lynne r.a.w. #777 Hey there- For musicians have them email tipitinashelp@theLEAF.com. YES we can help Sula (I believe she is a friend of Shaka Zulus). HOW MANY PEOPLE DO YOU HAVE? Pets? HOW MANY DAYS SUPPLYS DOES SHE HAVE? WHAT EXACTLY DOES SHE NEED? Is there an area of the south or country where she would prefer to go- we have houses waiting for musicians all over. I will be off line till 9pm at a vigil then back & we will be on it! There is a webpage theleaf.com/hurricanesupport where people are sending in offers of housing- the response is immense so lets get to matching people like Sula janet. Thank you for writing. Date: Tue, 6 Sep 2005 11:06:03 -0400 From: "Mt. NEBO RECORDS" IMMEDIATE RELEASE: (Washington, D.C.) by E. Benjamin / contactus@mtneborecords.com / 202-321-2263 The Virgin Islands continues to astound and abound with the amazing talents of it's little isles, first from St. Croix, and now from St. Thomas. In June 2005, Tsuni Records released the debut of Delyno Brown aka Pressure entitled "The Pressure Is On" and continued the astonishment of the masses. The "Pressure Is On" contains a format like albums of yesteryear. Many favorites, no fluff. From start to finish, the listener is singing along, chanting and dancing to great songs like "The Pressure Is On," "No Limit," "Zion Is Home," "Ganja," "When Dem Come" feat. Glen Washington and several more certifiably massive songs! Whether Dancehall or Roots, the listener is definitely pleased with the vibe, energy, melodies, lyrics and great, great production by one of St.Croix's best, Dean Pond of DSP Muzik and co-producer End Stafford. As a true testament to the album's impact and greatness, "The Pressure Is On" is currently ranked #1 on the international webzine Ireggae.com (www.ireggae.com) and #4 on KDVS Caribbean/African Top 40 at the University of California. Ireggae.com is highly regarded as one of the world's most informative, civic-minded and proactive web-based reggae information organizations. It features reggae music from reggae icons and major labels as well as the best independent music available. It is a complete respository of information for the reggae enthusiast. KDVS 90.FM at the University of California features reggae music from across the world on it's Caribbean / African Top 40 and is hosted by Mindy Steuer with a large listening audience. Being ranked #1 is noteworthy and recognizes the great offering of this album, however, for the sake of clarity, the beauty and strength of Pressure's album should not be mistaken as fully representative of his "Powaz." Pressure is no studio made artist. First, as a member of the V.I. super-group The Star Lion Family, Pressure intensely rocked the crowds of the V.I. at each performance and became regarded as one of the most promising singers of any island. In a group filled with such highly talented performers like Niyo Rah, Ickarus and Rafijah, being noticed alone is an accomplishment! Pressure has also been featured on works by Midnite, Yahadanai, Apostle and most recently on Bambu Station's "Talkin' Roots II" with the track "My Powaz." On June 19, 2005, Pressure made his big stage USA debut at the the world famous Sierra Nevada World Music Festival. All commentary, reviews, and industry material described how Pressure captivated the crowd with his raw energy, searing falsettoes, and his lyrical flow and acumen that is second to none. In the truest sense, all eyes were on him and no one was disappointed. It is truly a blessing to witness the evolution of a phenomenal music career and commencing September 20, 2005, in Mendocino, CA, West coast reggae fans will be able to witness for themselves the "Pressure," along with Ijah Menelik, Ras Bumpa and Black Culture on the TALKIN' ROOTS TOUR 2005. Dates in Arizona, Oregon, California, Nevada and Mexico will be advertised soon. For more information on Pressure, this month's featured Poet, and/or to purchase his album, visit us at . We've been running quite a bit behind schedule but we have recently taken over a weekly dancehall session in Santa Fe (Reggae Dancehall Fridays) so I have been enormously busy promoting that event. Time to play catch-up therefore, so here's July's NM REGGAE DANCEHALL CHART. I've got August's ready as well & will try to mail that out & post it in 2-3 weeks, ok? Remember these charts are courtesy of Brotherhood Sound System (www.brotherhoodsound.com) & Reggae Runnins Radio (www.ksfr.org) here in Santa Fe,NM,USA and they are based on the number of times tunes from 2005 (with few exceptions) are rotated on vinyl in the dance & on the air in any given month. Junior Gong does it again!!! Last months #1, the massive Welcome To Jamrock is this months top-a-top as well. Aside from that, I am quite happy that there is a VERY healthy mix of both dancehall & roots tunes represented in this chart, with the latter even dominating slightly for once. Combination tune of the year HAS to be Peter Tosh alongside Buju Banton with Must Get A Beaten, where Peters original vocal is spliced up-combination-style, over what sounds like an updated version of the riddim. Other gems on it include Capleton & Junior Reids red-hot Forgive Them as well as good tracks by the likes of Richie Spice and Everton Blender. Mr.Perfects Handcart Bwoy was released in 2004 already, yet it just made it into my hands. My FAVORITE upcoming artist, even ahead of Fantan Mojah and about even with I-Wayne, Mister Perfect has an unusual, youthful, VERY refreshing style! Hope to hear more &m bigger things, as I see that hes being voiced quite a bit in this time. South Floridas Eight 76 Records are rocking NM these days with a modern skankster-the SKABREEZE. Luciano has climbed to #12, while Christinis Magic Stuff just entered our chart at #14. Nice One! Rounding out the roots selection are Jah Cure, as well as former #1 TOK on the DROP LEAF riddim, which is obviously on its way out & about to be replaced by the new SEASONS. Finally its hitting NM like the raging storm that it is: Jah Snowcones APPLAUSE beat has risen to further impact out here, with the massive celebrating it ina di dance & Brotherhood bussing it on the air. 3 tracks are featured this time around, by Shane-O (who has climbed to #6), Sizzla (who has hit #8) and Mr.Dutty Cup at #11! Crucial piece-a-riddim and definitely one of the best on the hardcore-front in 2005!! Birchs church-influenced MY SWING is also outta this world with anthems by Ele (finally again!), Kartel, TOK, Macka D, and the list just goes on & on as EVERYOINE seems to have risen to the occasion on this one. Hallelujah!!! Richard Call Me Shams Browne finally scores again with TOKs mean-ass Booyah-one great fassy-burnin-anthem by a group who certainly specializes in just that. Dem Yute Deh released a new riddim called GRIMEY on Greensleeves which is quite original (franco-influenced with a frenchie accordion) and Capletons Hot Suh made it, while the everliving JONKANOO is still kickin up rumpus with Beenie Man, TOK, & Sean Paul. A brilliant set of tunes on an excellent one drop riddim... that's "Riddim Driven ~ Cry Baby". The Bambz Station produced compilation "Talkin' Roots II" is an entertaining and uplifting collection of tunes. "Weed A Bun Vol. 1" is a collection of weed anthems inna variety of different styles. "Greensleeves Rhythm Album #72 ~ Bounce " features 19 vocal cuts over a hand clap driven uptempo riddim built by Ward 21's Andre 'Suku' Gray and Christopher 'Longman' Birch. The Trojan compilation "Dawning Of A New Era ~ Roots Of Skinhead Reggae" is a good buy, especially because the majority of the 42 tracks is rare music. The Trinity. **** Last week's updates at http://www.reggae-vibes.com **** Lustre Kings' compilation "Culture Dem 2" showcases six riddims blessed by several major Jamaican stars as well as some on the rise. Willie Williams' "Messenger Man" is an insightful work, with beautiful song structures. Sly & Robbie's wicked "World A Music" riddim has been relicked by the Firehouse Crew to full effect for what's already #73 in Greensleeves Rhythm Album series: "World Jam". "Riddim Driven ~ Return To Big Street" is a must have set of excellent tunes on 2 superb 'Big Yard' riddims. "Riddim Driven ~ Move" features a very catchy riddim with some excellently voiced tunes. Lyn Taitt & The Jets double cd "Hold Me Tight: Anthology '65-'73" is going to prove worthy to rock steady completists.
