Not only have they (Henry) put people up at his home in Baton Rouge (over 30). Many have come to this Reggae house of Refuge with only the clothes on their backs and Henry has provided. They have also taken Gas to those who are stranded, aided those who have come to him for money to reach their next point. Henry them are true "Soldiers of JAH" giving all of what they can without complaint. It's amazing that he stays so upbeat, even though being a Struggling Reggae Band, they suffer too. Their HEARTS! ARE BIGGER THAN LIFE! Jah Bless and Guide - Henry Turner Jr. and Flavor. For the True Love than are showing to those who are suffering bad. Hope this message finds you in a thankful mood for all of Jah's blessings. Wanted to fill you in on the latest. Both of my full length CD's, "Renaissance In Formation" and "Yin Yang" (MOLIN MUSIC) are being sold at CD Baby and 100% of the profits are going to American Red Cross for Katrina Disaster Relief. Links are located at my homepage: http://www.annafisher.com Last week, Saturday, September 3, 2005 I was honored Unsigned Artist of the Year at the Celebrity Centre in Hollywood by the One Child Our Village Foundation of Los Angeles (Watts). A photo taken by Arsenio Madero can be viewed at: http://www.weblogimages.com/v.p?uid=molinus&pid=380779&sid=ckm03orzG4 RAW Member Whispering Lion RAW #990 who gave us the beautiful track, "It's Up To Us" on the RAW 99 Compilation has a new release available now at CD Baby. While in Berkeley, CA last month, I called him from my RAWster and he told me his new album, "Real Revolution" was being pressed. He was very enthusiastic as his nine year old son, Jah Z (Joshua) had sung on it as well. He invited me to come visit he and Jah Z at their studio unfortunately time wouldn't permit. I did however have a chance to speak with Jah Z on the phone and he was most impressive! Whispering Lion was delighted with the quality of this latest endeavor and hopes you will be too. To read more and listen to samples: http://cdbaby.com/cd/whisperinglion2 Congratulations, Whispering Lion and family! Four years ago today, I was scheduled to fly home from Boston on American Airlines Flight #11. I cancelled my flight at the last minute to teach the Emergency Immigrant Education Program for the students from my school who'd lived in the US less than three years. How one decision could amke such a difference is haunting. As we reflect on the past disastrous incidents in our country, let us remember those who must persevere in places that are less affluent than America. What happened recently in the Gulf Coast is the saddest thing to see so many families torn apart and lives ended needlessly due to poor leadership. To hear Barbara Bush's comment, "Those living in shelters have never had it so good." is outrageous and only proves there is so much more work to do! Many are asking why more Reggae artists aren't giving more benefits for the cause when we are seeing many heavily sponsored major label artists on the television each night. I think it's beautiful that artists are coming together to sing songs that will touch our hearts and open our wallets but if you really want to reach the victims...give to the American Red Cross. It will help the fastest. I do not work for them nor do I have any affiliation with them more than being a blood donor and personally experienced their assistance in the five shelters I and my two children stayed in over a decade ago. Due to the severe cuts in federal aid, Battered Womens' and Family Crisis Shelters would not exist without the Red Cross. Besides, the Red Cross is following the vision of its creator Clara Barton relentlessly! Where would we be today without Clara's sacrifices? Now that's a terrifying thought, isn't it? In the meantime, benefit concerts are a great way for us to heal and while giving money we get great music but few of our Reggae artists are thriving enough to be able to donate and few sponsors are stepping up to the plate to assist. Perhaps, the best move would be to hire some of the displaced musicians from the Gulf if at all possible. If you've ever had to start over from scratch you know a hand out is never as rewarding or comforting than a hand up. Having just returned from a seven week, six country tour of Europes hottest reggae festivals, Groundation is excited to perform again for their Bay Area fans on September 23 at Ashkenaz and October 1 at the Mystic Theater. Playing before crowds from 5,000 to 15,000 Groundation shared the stage with Zap Mama at Rototom in Italy and headlined after Black Uhuru at Summerjam in Germany, bringing their conscious jazz-infused reggae to the masses. Theyve returned ready to link back up with their local fans before heading back to Europe for a couple weeks, and then heading for the first time to Brazil this October. Expect to hear two sets of all Groundation music with a couple new songs theyre working on from theyre new album slated for release next year. Internationally renowned reggae group Groundation emerged from the depths of the studio with their 4th album entitled We Free Again in November of 2004 to critical acclaim. The music was fresh and new proving once again that they were committed to the task of groundbreaking original music. Their previous release Hebron Gate received worldwide acclaim including a nomination for Germanys coveted World Music Award. For this most recent release Groundation united for the first time in reggae history Apple Gabriel (founding member of Israel Vibration) and Don Carlos (Black Uhuru). Groundation was founded in the fall of 1998 when three long time musicians Marcus Urani, Ryan Newman, and Stafford came together to form the core of the pioneering sound. They were later Joined in 2000 by San Francisco based Jazz trumpeter David Chachere and the North Bays Kelsey Howard on trombone. Groundation saxophonist Jason Robinson has gone on to become the head of the Jazz program at UC San Diego as well as breathing new life into the Southern California Jazz scene. Drummer Paul Spina (Les Claypool, Will Bernards Mother Bug) has been with the group since taking over from original set player James Stafford in December 2001. Groundation's first full-length dub CD is set to be released this fall online and in the stores by early winter. Dub Wars combines tracks from their two most recent studio albums Hebron Gate (dub versions originally released on the LP Dragon War YTR-1220) and We Free Again. These dub versions engineered by Jim Fox (Lion & Fox) and redubed by Groundation keyboardist Marcus Urani unearth the depth of the Groundation sound. Dub Wars North American release will once again be handled by the groups growing Bay Area record label Young Tree Records. Established in 2001 by lead singer Harrison Stafford and Kris Dilbeck the label has also released works from legendary Jamaican groups The Congos, Pablo Moses, and Winston Jarrett & The Righteous Flames. Harrison Stafford also taught the first University course on the History of Reggae Music (Sonoma State University 99-01). SOLOMON JABBY REVIEW (THE BEAT MAGAZINE): Here is a recent review featured in the latest issue of The Beat Magazine: "Dub Revelator" Solomon Jabby's "Zion Gates" could easily make one assume he was some obscure Jamaican Rasta from 30 years ago. Actually, he's a present-day American Christian who recently relocated from Atlanta to Southern California. And like Ryan Moore of Twilight Circus he's a one-man dub dynamo who plays all the instruments, works all the knobs and switches and calls all the shots. His use of vintage equipment and instruments makes for a deep-roots dub sound that recalls the legends (Tubby, Perry, Pablo, et al.) and gives his evangelical leanings the same mystical air as any spiritually inclined reggae/dub figure. Cut from the same cloth as Jabby's earlier "Rootical Revelations" but even better, this one will appeal to dub lovers from now till the final trumpet. --Tom Orr In March of 2005 Solomon moved to Los Angeles, CA to join the band Christafari (percussion and guitar), co-produce at Mohrbs Zionic Sounds Dub Lab and work for GospelReggae.com. Solomon is currently writing songs for his third album -- his first primarily vocal release. To hear samples of his music and purchase his CDs online simply go to: http://www.gospelreggae.com and type "Solomon" in the search box. 5>.
