Also performing with Reid are the Reggae Angels, Zion Roots and the Instant Messengers. The gates open at 4:30pm and the music starts at 5pm. This is an all ages venue and fun for the whole family with arts/crafts and food vendors. No dogs, alcohol or glass allowed to be brought in to the venue. The Lyons Club is on site selling beer, wine and water. Tickets are $20. Reid is best known as the man that gave us the monster reggae hit "One Blood" as well as being the man that replaced Michael Rose as lead vocalist with Black Uhuru. Junior gets his inspiration from places, people and things, and has embraced BoBo Shanti, an orthodox branch of the Rastafarian religion. He recorded his first single at the age of fourteen for the "late great" Hugh Mundell and then went on to form his own band "Voice of Progress" and recorded the album "Mini-Bus Driver". A strong admirer of Black Uhuru, Reid slipped with ease into the role of lead vocalist. Collaborating with Duckie and Puma, he delivered "Brutal, to critical acclaim from the media and public. From his early days in the Waterhouse area of Kingston, Junior Reid was busy establishing himself as a singer of note with the group Voice of Progress. An early album for the Negus Roots label featured the track "Mini Bus Driver", and the Junior Reid sound was felt throughout the world. Interestingly enough, the Negus Roots label out of England was also responsible for first recording Don Carlos, also a Waterhouse singer and close associate of Junior Reid. Reid started turning out many hit, including, "Boom Shak-A-Lak" and "Foreign Mind". It was at this early peak of popularity when he was asked to sing lead for Black Uhuru (1985). Around 1991, Junior Reid set up the JR Recording Studio and record distribution plant in Kingston, Jamaica. A number of top Jamaican artist have recorded there, and Junior Reid has produced a good number of critically respected albums. From his humble beginnings in the ghetto of Waterhouse to the CEO of a major recording studio and record label, Junior Reid has accomplished a great deal on this short time on earth, and his future continues to look even brighter. In 1986 Fenton formed a band on the West coast called The Chosen Few. In 1989 the band re-arranged and was called The Elevations. Fenton sang lead and harmony vocals, and played keyboards. With the Elevations he produced two albums - "Jah Guide" and "Good Judgment". In 1992 Fenton left the Elevations and started the Reggae Angels. With the Reggae Angels Fenton has produced "Guard the Honor", "Jealousy", "Truth and Conviction", "Spirit, Signs and Wonders", "Which Road will you Choose", "Live Positive", "Come To Jah", "Save Our Souls", "A Heart With Love" and "Balance", along with six instrumental albums. The early mixing was done in Jamaica with some of the foremost reggae engineers including Sylvan Morris, David Rowe, Soljie, Dr. Marshall and Hugh Palmer. Scientist mixed the next four albums in Los Angeles and the Bay Area. "Balance" was mixed at Lion and Fox recording studios by Jim Fox in July 2003 The Reggae Angels have one of the most proflific catalogues of any American based reggae band, including 12 CDs and numerous dubs. Their latest release "Balance" has been well received and a new project- "Make Blessings" - is near completion. Now is such a time. The Three Shoes Posse band (www.3shoesposse.com) which includes the leading members of the Root 1 band (www.root1.net), RAW member #156, recently returned from the L.A. 911 Truth Symposium held on June 24-25 where we handed out 200 free copies of our new single, "10 Second Freefall" - listen to the mp3 here. The convention was a huge success with over 1200 people and we networked with many like minded people who share our love for this country and our desire to see it returned to a sovereign constitutional republic. It was also a great opportunity to introduce many folks to reggae music who had never really heard it before. Since returning, our song was aired as an educational tool during a 911 truth seeking discussion on "Radio Free Nashville" on Dr. Future's "Future Quake" radio show. The program director told us he wanted to put our song on regular rotation. Our song has also been played on KAZI 88.7 FM Austin, Tx, and on Indymedia internet radio along with interviews of the scientists from the conference: http://radio.indymedia.org/news/2006/06/10368.php Please check out CSPAN network #1 this saturday night, July 29, at 7 PM Central time to view the panel discussion of the main presenters of the evidence at the conference: Dr. Steven E. Jones, Prof. Jim Fetzer, Lt. Col. Bob Bowman, Webster G. Tarpley, and Alex Jones. The panelists are members of Scholars for 911 truth - www scholarsfor911truth.org aka www.st911.org . Here you will find a large body of evidence and scientific proof that the government accounting of 911 events is false, as well as an interview (6/7/06) by Alex Jones with Professor Steven E. Jones, excerpts from which you can hear in our single. Dr. Steven Jones speaks about his twice peer reviewed research concerning the presence of the signatures of thermate explosives (specifically used for quickly cutting steel for demolition purposes) in WTC steel samples which provides conclusive evidence toward the hypothesis that the buildings were brought down by controlled demolition. Many song ideas on this site! For us, this issue goes beyond politics. It's about waking up people to the truth and saving our country. After all, as Professor Fetzer said, "The melting point of steel is not Democrat or Republican and the hottest temperatures that jet-fuel-based fires can attain does not depend upon the identity of the President of the United States." Caribbean 'more than just a party' Date: Sun, 30 Jul 2006 01:46:05 -0400 From: rlam HISTORICAL BACKGROUND TO CARIBANAT More Than Just A Party "Without question, carnival had become a symbol of freedom for the broad mass of the population and not merely a season for frivolous enjoyment. It had a ritualistic significance, rooted in the experience of slavery and in the celebration of freedom from slavery.....Adopted by the Trinidad people it become a deeply meaningful anniversary of deliverance from the most hateful form of human bondage -Professor Errol Hill in The Trinidad Carnival, 1972. Toronto's CaribanaT, like carnival festivals in other places, is far more than just a party. It is a breaking down of the artificial barriers of society - like class, race and wealth. It is a celebration of literal and spiritual emancipation. It is also a time to turn society upside-down and take a good critical look at it. Toronto Carnival is generally percieved to be based on Trinidad and Tobago Carnival. But where does "T&T" Carnival come from? In fact, most histories of Trinidad Carnival begin with a discussion of the ethnic and social make-up of the islands: people of African descent (both slaves and free): French plantation owners; East Indian and Chinese indentured labourers; British, Spanish and Creole settlers and the indigenous Indians. From the 1790s onwards Trinidad was remarkable for its multiplicity of racial and social groupings. Before 1834, when slavery was abolished, Trinidad's Carnival celebrations had two aspects: the torches, drumming and other African-derived ceremonies of the slave classes, and the fancy-dress silks and satins of the European plantation owners. Often, the French monsieurs and madames would dress as fantastical versions of their own slaves, while the slaves would parody the plantation owners. After the emancipation, former slaves, under the concealment of disguise, brought their dances, their songs and their festival traditions to the streets, recreating in symbolic ways the freedom from the cane fields. This period was characterised by the participation of the "jamette" or underclasses, and by cross-racial costumes. Archtypical characters-devils, bats, royalty, indians and death figures - were gradually refined into such traditional favourites as the Jab Jab, Jab Molassic, Midnight Robber and pierrot Grenade (versions of which persist to the present day). Throughout the mid-19th century, the middle and upper classes were extremely uneasy with this torchlight revelry. It seemed too bawdy, too raucous, and too liable to provoke riot and violence. Various measures were taken to prohibit public disorder, especially after 1881, when police and revellers clashed in the "Canboulay riot". As the turn of the century approached, however, Trinidad began to recognize that Carnival was here to stay. Official competitions were established, while some of the more provocative elements were suppressed. Merchants began to understand the economic benefits of an annual street celebration, and soon a wider segment of society - including people from all races and classes - were "playing Mas" (that is, dressing up in masquerade costumes). The early 20th century saw the dawn of the great era of Calypso. the steel drum was born; a wedding of African ingenuity and the cast-off industrial waste of foreign navies. the three art forms of Trinidad Carnival - masquerade or Mas', Steel Pan and Calypso - were developed as forms of social commentary that could criticize the law, the government or society at large without fear of punishment. Competitions in all three genres elevated the skill of their practitioners, so that today Trinidad Carnival is known by many as "the greatest show on earth." Thus, Toronto's CaribanaT Festival is a complex hybrid. It has inherited African, East Indian and European festival traditions from Trinidad and Tobago Carnival. Over the years CaribanaT has also welcomed the festival traditions of members of many other communities that are now present in Toronto, including Jamaican, Brazilian, Cuban, St. Lucian, Guyanese, Bahamian, Antiguan, Barbadian and Dominican. Trinidad Carnival falls just before the Christian season of Lent, so that a time of excess and indulgence is balanced by a time for introspection and abstinence. Coincidentally, Toronto's CaribanaT Festival falls on the anniversary of the emancipation from slavery in Trinidad (August 1, 1834), and also on the date of a European festival celebrating the first loaf of the new year's wheat and the opening of the fields for common pasturage. These themes of liberation and renewal are essential to the Festival, and help to explain its enduring popularity. Meanwhile, CaribanaT is still in its infancy, even as it approaches its 34th anniversary. Its potent message for the rest of the world will continue to be spread for generations to come. one love one peace roots-ee --- the ark band http://thearkband.com ( reggae ) http://thearkband.blogspot.com ***no one but ourselves can free our minds*** [10] *=*=*=*=*=*=*= *=*=*=*=*=*=*= *=*=*=*=*=*=*= >From: Munyaradzi Nemagowa (R.A.W. #) Subject: Very interested with the craft business Date: Sun, 30 Jul 2006 01:56:27 -0700 (PDT) From: Munyaradzi Nemagowa Yes pple can send some music to me and also here is the craft i am dealing with iam very interested with the craft business because i think that this can help me sustain my family because life is hard and harsh. as you know that our country is severly battered by sanctions there is an acute shortage of food, transport and jobs. It could never happen again, and needs to be shared. Pato Banton played in Park City, Utah on Saturday July 29, and it was quite the memorable performance. Just as the band was to go on, the skies opened up with one of our sudden mountain thunderstorms. A lot of folks left, but quite a few stayed and waited in the rain. Determined to go on with the show, Pato Banton jumped down off the stage into a small crowd of wet fans and began to sing a capella, in the rain, with the crowd singing along and holding hands. When the rain let up, the band got on stage and was able to do their set. At one point Pato began speaking to the crowd. When he mentioned loving and giving thanks to the Creator God, there was a loud clap of thunder. As he continued speaking against war and violence, claps of thunder accented his words, the voice of Jah Himself. InI was one who waited in the rain, seizing the opportunity to wash I locks in the cool mountain rainwater. So there I was, dripping wet, cold, and blessed to be there. This was truly one concert I will never forget.
