Mikey will return to the U.S. on August 18th and will be available for Interviews for all media: regarding upcoming tour plans and upfront and personal information regarding the highly anticipated soon to be released all reggae star cast- "Backstage Pass" CD - September 2006. With the First single being released in Jamaica. Upon his return to the U.S. in August; he will be heading out to perform on the West Coast ; California From August 31 thru September 10: backed by The Dread At The Controls Band; the same magnificent band that toured with him in the UK and Poland back in June 2006; this band is more than a compliment to the already Mystic vibes of the Dread " Mikey Dread", they are receiving rave reviews, from all spectrums of the music world, not just the Reggae vibes! - Mikey Dread has always been an energetic and illustrious performer, he has not slacked in the many years he's been out there, his performance just keeps getting better and better and it's apparent with the new generations of fans that are flocking to see Mikey perform Live. Speaking of New Fans: Recently, I received a phone call from California (a policeman), yes a policeman! Greg, who was in a Salinas Calif., Record store browsing and was surprised to see a variety of Mikey Dread's CD's prominently displayed in the front of the store, he inquired to the Clerk about Mikey and why so prominently displayed, and the Clerk advised him that for that area of California, Mikey Dread is to Reggae as what Elvis is to Rock, a superstar.. Needless to say; he was so excited he let the Clerk know that he knew someone, who knew Mikey Dread personally; with the excitement still at fever pitched levels he decided to phone me up immediately to let me know what transpired! Fan excitement always makes me happy. I know Mikey works very, very, very, HARD for his fans and is deserving of this type of admiration. Humble soul that he is. I'm just happy I can work for someone like Mikey Dread, someone whom I believe in and who takes the time, to let his fans know, he genuinely CARES!!! Special Update on the Mikey Dread work in progress "Backstage Pass" CD: Mikey says: "My new album is both a celebration of my father's 100 birthday (March 1906) and my return to the Jamaican recording studios and reggae scene bringing back the real original authenticity of reggae. The live style. The album was all recorded the same way I used to record in the 70s, no drum machine; just the real musicians capturing the original sounds that is lacking in today's reggae. This is what I am trying to preserve- live musicians playing, adding their vibes and energy to the compositions. Recording reggae using drum machine and keyboards alone is popular now and cheaper to make. You only have 2 people to pay. Recording the way I did, it means you spend 12 times the amount of money; but the music sounds much better using drum, bass, 2 guitars, keyboards, percussion, backing vocals and REAL horns, than just faking the horns using keyboard sounds. One thing I can assure my fans; everything is real. I have used at least 12 musicians per track on my recordings and if you multiply that by say 14 tracks you know this is costing a lot but that is my style and the motto of my company- "Dread At The Controls" making quality reggae music from the source- Jamaica" We have also mixed a crucial Dub Album from this session, which will surface later in 2007". As you can see from Mikey's own words, the Rasta remains in Control, focused and dedicated to bring you the BEST Reggae Musical Experience imaginable. He is also working diligently with doing the final mixes and design for the CD; "Backstage Pass" working with his graphic artist, based in Germany on the final design. The CD features the TOP recording musicians in the history of reggae music. One song was recorded with his band in Poland. Some songs were cut in California with the Soul Syndicate band along with the world famous musical engineer known as The "Scientist"; the majority of the songs on the CD being recorded at the Tuff Gong and Anchor recording studios in Kingston, Jamaica. The CD was mixed entirely at Tuff Gong Studios, Jamaica and features new Mikey Dread tracks with horns and backing vocals plus an ALL Star array of the TOP Reggae musicians: Sly Dunbar on drums, Flabba Holt of Bass, Larry Professor (from Bunny Wailer Band) on Bass, Glen Browne( from Ziggy Marley band) on Bass. Keyboard players - Obeah, Franklyn Waul, Toney Asher, Robbie Lynn. Guitars : Dalton Browne, Lenford Richards, Gibby. Percussionists like Sticky Thompson, Bongo Herman, Sky Juice plus on horns Dizzy, Deadly Headly, Andrew Stoch ( from my band) The Gayle brothers: Everton and Everald Gayle (one plays with Lloyd Parkes band one plays with Bunny Wailers band) More CD release info to come so stay tuned to: http://www.mikeydread.com/homex1.html UPCOMING TOUR DATES IN 2006: Mikey is pumped up and ready to get back to the California Reggae tour circuit for a brief tour, performing live commencing in Alameda, CA. Their name, ROOT AWAKENING, is exactly what the group is about; their passion is in awakening music lovers to the greatness of reggae's roots. The quintet specializes in the timeless music of Jamaican foundation rocksteady and roots reggae, featuring the irresistible rhythms, arrangements, lyrics and harmonies that created one of the most influential genres in music today. Their dedication and love for reggae has led to ROOT AWAKENING backing great international artists such as Ken Boothe, the Congos, Tippa Irie and many more. Their award-winning original songs also deliver infectious dance beats and vibrant messages of truth and justice, joy and upliftment. For over a decade, this hardworking crew has earned its place among the tightest, most danceable reggae bands anywhere. Boosting up the energy of ROOT AWAKENING's extra classic sound is the addition of fresh dj/toaster/keyboardist S. Robinson, who throws down conscious, fiery lyrics in both dancehall and old-skool flows. Come be a part of this night of pure niceness and join us at Henfling's, one of the great little rooms in the area to dance, hear music or plain have fun! Songs such as "No Stoppin',"  "Nuff Heights," and "Can't Hold Me," are bangin' combinations of hip-hop and dancehall, chock full of rumbling bass and sharp snare hits. "Christian Soldiers," however, wins the honor of the CD's best hip-hop/dancehall hybrid with a stellar contribution from St. Matthew. For straight dancehall fans, "Who Dem Wan Dis?" featuring Yankee is a sure-fire favorite. Over the same riddim that Sean Paul used for his "We Be Burnin'" single, Yankee and Monty G deliver energetic flows in militant defense of the Word of God. This song is pure, undiluted dancehall fire! Lovers of Monty G's rootsy sing-jay style should make sure to check out "Who Shall Lead" and "We Shall Overcome," (which was first featured on the Return of the Overcomers Soundtrack). Both songs showcase Monty's raspy-yet-smooth flow over melodic roots riddims. These songs should especially satisfy fans of Monty's last full-length release, "Until Life." Monty G's "No Stoppin' Mixtape," is an excellent combination of everything we've come to expect from Lion of Judah's premiere artist/producer. With a great mix of riddims and signature flows, every song showcases a different side of Monty G's diverse talent. Make sure to grab a copy of this hot new release today! New CD: TROY ANTHONY, "RISE UP" [240.jpg] Arti st: TROY ANTHONY Album: "RISE UP" Genre: Roots and Culture Label: Lion of Judah Sounds ONLY $12.95 On his debut LP, "Rise Up," Troy Anthony fills a void in the Gospel Reggae genre by presenting a powerful, soulful voice that meets and even exceeds the quality of contemporary reggae singers such as Luciano, Bushman, and Burning Spear. Every single song on this album is a demonstration of his beautifully rich vocal style. His voice, however, isn't his only tool: Troy Anthony's lyrics are equally powerful and could easily stand alone as a conscious, uplifting collection of urban poetry and relevant sermon messages. Not one song on this exceptional debut is merely filler.  Every tune is an excellent combination of rootsy riddims and Gospel message, and the CD's title track, "Rise Up," is no exception. Over a thick o ne-drop riddim Troy Anthony sings "We better rise up and go / Who is gonna let them know that Christ is the answer? / Rise up and go / Yeah, we got to let them know that Christ is the way!" Accompanied by bubbling organs and strong bass lines, this firm message couldn't sound sweeter. "Blood Sweat and Tears," featuring Firekid was first featured as one of the toughest songs on the second volume of DJ Frost's Street Light Mixtape series. Over a lush, energetic steppers beat Troy Anthony sings pure consciousness as Firekid chants in a dancehall sing-jay style. This commentary on the trials faced by many youths is as raw as it is inspiring: an excellent reminder that it is the responsibility of all Christians to care about the plight of underprivileged youth. Track 4, "For The Children," continues this message with profound lyrics over a smooth modern roots riddim. Though every song on this album is worth mentioning, stand out tracks include "Jah Bless  We," a hip-hop influenced sing-jay/roots combination, "My God," a liquid smooth cut with a truly classic feel, and "Bless I am Blessed," a powerful song on the "Seasons" riddim (also featured on the Streetlight Mixtape Vol. 2). Overall, Troy Anthony's "Rise Up" album is a perfect blend of roots riddim, incredible vocal prowess and relevant Gospel messages. This is one CD that definitely belongs in the collection of every single Gospel Reggae fan! If you only buy one roots album this season, make sure this is it!   SHOP NOW --> http://www.gospelreggae.com [ship%20within%2024%20hours.jpg] 3>. RE-INTRODUCING THE AWARD WINNING DJ NICHOLAS [213.jpg] Artist: DJ Nicholas ($14.95) Album: On The Shout Genre: Dancehall A few months ago the relative newcomer DJ Nicholas released his debut project "On The Shout". We had heard his name before featured on 11 other artist's projects and compilations, but somehow this album managed to slip under the radar.  Then came the MAJA Awards in Jamaica where he stole the night taking home the New Artist of the Year award and winning in the coveted Artist of the Year award.  Just a few days later the nominations were announced for the Marlin awards. It was a shock to learn that this relative newcomer had tied with the most nominations (12) for the 2006 Marlins. He ended up winning Reggae Vocal Performance of the Year and New Artist of the Year. This unique deejay had finally gotten our attention. Then I saw him share the stage with the biggest names in the genre of Gospel Reggae and I left the event only remembering one distinct voice-DJ Nicholas. So then I took another listen to "On the Shout" and unde rstood why: What does every successful dancehall deejay have in common? From Bounty and Beenie to Elephant Man and Sean Paul; they've all proven themselves by developing their own unique sound. On his debut release, "On the Shout," DJ Nicholas joins these ranks by flexing his HUGE vocal style with confidence and power. Blessed with a passion for music from a young age, DJ Nicholas began his career as a dancehall artist by imitating top secular deejays and chatting negative messages of guntalk (lyrics promoting violence and lawless use of guns) and slackness (lyrics promoting sexual immorality). These lyrics, however, soon gave way to militant Rastafarian philosophy as DJ Nicholas began exploring his spiritual side on a quest to find God. Though his quest first led him to a violent interpretation of Rastafari, it was in reading the Bible that the true God was revealed to him. After reading Acts 4:12, which says "there is no other name in h eaven by which man can be saved." DJ Nicholas had an intense spiritual awakening and realized that salvation came through Jesus Christ alone. With a firm faith in Christ, DJ Nicholas (also dubbed the "Rhyme Minister") is now taking the Gospel message all across Jamaica and beyond: from street ministry in inner city ghettos to stage shows all across the Caribbean! "On The Shout" kicks off with "God Man," a blazing tune that finds the Rhyme Minister asking a brave question: "Where the God Man deh?!?" This song is one of the CD's absolute best and sets the tone for a top-quality dancehall album. Hard hitting songs such as "Mek Mi Gwaan", "Pop Off The Word" (a massive gospel reggae hit), and the addictive "Da One Yah" combine DJ Nicholas' original rhyme style and vocal delivery with consistent, undiluted messages that speak bold truths straight to the hearts of believers and non-believers alike . On "Turning Around", DJ Nicholas does what many gospel reggae artists fail to do: he brings a hardcore conscious message from a Christian perspective, chatting "Turn it around / from war and violence to peace and serenity / Turn it around / from one bag a suffering into prosperity / Turn it around / from no ambition to real integrity / Turn it around!" The CD's fourteenth track, "Suffering", continues the conscious perspective by creatively and accurately describing various types of suffering that people from various walks of life endure on a daily basis. Though the song by itself may not seem particularly hopeful, one need only look to tracks like "Nah Bow" and "Testimony" to get the full range of DJ Nicholas' uplifting message. On "Nah Bow," featuring Katalys Crew, DJ Nicholas departs from his specialty dancehall style and slows things down with a beautiful message of encouragement to believers facing hard times. "Testimony "also stands apart as a moving account of DJ Nicholas' exciting personal testimony. It's safe to say that with his debut release, DJ Nicholas delivers exactly what the gospel dancehall genre has been waiting for. Song after song, hype riddim after hype riddim, and boom tune after boom tune, DJ Nicholas proves himself as the most innovative new voice in the dancehall--PERIOD. Nobody cyaan' test the Rhyme Minister! Make sure to take a moment today and pick up a copy of this soon-to-be GospelReggae.com best seller!
