Tower Theater, Fresno, CA - 559 441 7107 8:30 pm (Doors Open at 7:30 pm) $25.00 advance All Ages – under six is free. Under 12 half off. For Immediate Release BOB MARLEY’S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION WITH THE WAILERS AND THE ITALS AT THE TOWER THEATER ON FEBRUARY 22! Wendy Russell Presents along with Renegade Productions proudly bring back Bob Marley’s original band: The Wailers in celebration of Marley’s birthday. After successfully completing a sold out 2005 tour led by Aston “Family Man” Barrett, The Wailers plan to carry on the spirit and musical dominance that was created by Bob Marley and the Wailers with another tour. Their Fresno date is slated for Wednesday, February 22 at the Tower Theater. Doors open at 7:30 for this all-ages show and music starts at 8:30 with the inspirational roots music of Jamaica’s sweetest harmony trio: The Itals with all three original members. Recognized throughout the world as the architect of reggae, “Family Man” created a music genre that rose to world domination when he teamed up with Bob Marley as his bassist and musical director to form Bob Marley and the Wailers. “Family Man” and his band, The Wailers, continue to tour the world leaving no doubt that the musical legacy he and Bob Marley created would continue. As The Wailers embark on their 34th tour of the world, “Family Man” has pushed the limits of The Wailers, by assembling original band members that toured with Bob Marley making this reunion an unprecedented musical event. The 2006 world tour will be one of the most defining events since music fans have discovered the soul stirring magic of reggae. The name Wailers first applied to groups led by Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Livingston in the mid-sixties, when ska was the ruling sound in Jamaican music. By the end of the decade this triumvirate had teamed up with the Barrett brothers and begun to dominate the early reggae scene, recording untold hits for producer Lee “Scratch” Perry. After signing to Island Records in 1971, the name Wailers referred to Bob Marley’s band. When Peter and Bunny left the group two years later, the position of musical director was officially passed onto Aston “Family Man” Barrett and his late brother Carlton, who died in 1987. Bob Marley and The Wailers would then go on to break musical history by selling well over 250 million records worldwide. Clearly, “Family Man” is the sole beneficiary of The Wailers’ mantle and whilst other long-standing members still record and tour with the band, it is Marley’s former bassist and musical arranger, “Family Man”, who continues to spread his musical legacy. The lead singer is former City Heat vocalist Gary “Nesta” Pine, who is widely regarded as The Wailers’ best front man since the late, great Bob himself. In summary, The Wailers Band remains the world’s ultimate roots rock reggae outfit. No other aggregation can match them for either the depth or quality of their hit songs, or their widespread appeal. The cap still fits, and yes, the crowd still wants more. Critics agree that The Itals‚ live performances match the excellence and excitement found in their recorded music. While reggae has developed many styles over the years, The Itals‚ music retains the spirituality that has been the core of reggae’s success in America. Their live performances have been consistently praised since their first international tour to the US in 1983. The group has toured the US and Europe ever since, including performances at such hotspots as New York‚s Apollo Theater, The Fillmore in San Francisco and a smash performance at the Montreal Jazz Festival. In addition to other US performances, they have completed successful tours in over 15 countries and have performed on several MTV specials broadcasted from Jamaica. With or without a "current" release, The ITALS actively continue to spread the message of harmony and unity throughout the world with a sound that is both classic and new. They join cultures, life and music together in a spirit of international unity, with a "One World" message and rhythm mix and rhythm-Word Beat. 2005 celebrated 23 years of Watusi and the release of their latest CD, "Cool Runner", on World Beatnik Records, has taken the band and their music worldwide. The CD is the 5th release by Watusi and shows a true diversity of styles: Reggae-Roots to Dancehall, Soca, Zouk, African JuJu, Highlife, Soukous, salsa, jazz & Hawaiian, all mixed in World Beatnik style and rid dim, with a "One Love" vibe. "Cool Runner" was chosen as one of the "Top Ten Reggae CD's of 1998" and has gained airplay worldwide in over 100 countries so far. The reviews and response have been outstanding. After touring with the Bob Marley Festival Tour & other top Reggae Festivals, WATUSI made a special Spring Break tour through the Caribbean promoting the new CD to a great, international response. ANNOUNCEMENTS Many reggae musicians have supplied a custom-recorded CD containing radio station I.D.s. This is an excellent way to add variety and interest to the show. This memo gives many possible scripts for these radio announcements. SUGGESTIONS: (1) Record many variations of the station breaks, each as a separate track. Do all eleven suggested scripts: vary them with voice-only, music, echo, etc. If you record many rather than few, then they can be aired more often, possibly on every show! (2) Each announcement should be at least 25 seconds duration, to allow enough time for the disk in the second CD player to be changed. (3) The term "KGLP GALLUP" must be spoken clearly. The call-letters KGLP must be spelled out, and Gallup must always follow the call letters; this sequence is demanded by F.C.C. regulations. (4) Each announcement must be recorded as a separate track, so that the CD deck will recognize its sequential number and so that the auto-stop feature will terminate each announcement when finished. (5) Dub instrumental music can be used to fade-in / fade-out the announcement. Musical fade-in should lead to voice within 10-15 seconds, while fade-out can be extended. If the dub instrumental continues in the background, then ensure that its volume is low relative to the voice. (6) The scripts below are merely suggestions apply your artistic creativity to improve and extend them! For example, several retakes of the same announcement can be recorded, perhaps varying the tone of voice, varying the instrumental fade-in/fade out, etc. (7) Any of these recording formats are okay: CD, MINIDISCCD, D.A.T.
