One titled “Mash Fever” produced such hits as “Pirates”, “Dr. Slingshot”, and “Tek ah Taste”. The other CD was titled “Mash Party Mix for 2006” done expressly for his "Pirates" Road March Band. He has just completed his latest CD album “Welcome to Guyana”, which, incidentally, is his theme for Mash 2007. Among the featured selections is the title song “Welcome to Guyana”, an entertainly rousing song with just the right amount of grass-roots Guyanese fun, appeal and rhythm to entice year-round party goers, Mash 2007 celebrants, tourists and cricket enthusiasts, to jump and flounce to its infectious beat. Also on this CD album is the hilarious “Bourda Market Bounce” which will certainly be a runaway dancehall hit as it details that special Bourda Market brew which is “good fuh you …!” In a recent radio interview by 98.1 DJ host Rocky Carew, Slingshot indicated that this song will take center stage during his Mash 2007 tramp down to National Park. He predicts that Guyanese both at home and in the Diaspora will certainly fall in love with the chorus as they sing -- “When yuh hear de Slingshot music … lickin’ down de place…! Bourda Market tonic will activate yuh waist …! It will do you something … put yuh in de groove … Strengthen up yuh back …! And increase de faward move …! So … visit Bourda Market … get yuhself an ounce …! Bourda Market tonic will gie yuh de Guy’nese bounce …!” Slingshot has also included two very poignant social commentary songs in the “Welcome to Guyana” CD album. One that is being heard around the country, thanks to its catchy hook, is titled “What Are We Fighting For?” The video was filmed entirely in Rasville, and Broad Street in Charlestown, and Slingshot has ante up the challenge to all the movers and shakers of Guyana’s economic, social, political, and cultural lives, to “Feed we …! Clothes we …! House we …! Employ we …! Lead we …! Guide we …! Help we …! Protect we …!” Known for their blistering social and sometimes satiric lyrics, when occasion and times demand such, Slingshot and his co-lyricist Ingrid have again brought to the forefront of Guyana’s music scene a noteworthy call to our leaders to cast aside their petty political indifferences and move the country forward in a positive way before “She sinks and go way, way down”. The following lines from “What Are We Fighting For?” drive home the dire need for a "coming together" of our country's leaders to: “Bring dis nation together as one Before she sink and go way, way, way down. Hold back de evil hands dat wield all de hurt … Put back sweet love pon dis blest piece of earth …!” While he was in Guyana recently, Slingshot was the "surprise guest" for Dominique Dias' "Sweet 16" held at her parents Oleander Garden home on July 3. Her request for him to sing his Mash 2006 hit "Tek ah Taste" had all her friends loudly applauding her bravery...! He was also at "The Georgetown Club" on July 9 for a special Tea Party where some very special mothers were "made over" and honored by their children. From the reactions of parents, young adults, and teens, Slingshot is "safe", as everywhere he goes, those on the streets would sing out the catchy hook lines from "Tek ah Taste". During his stay in Guyana, Slingshot guest appeared on some of the local TV Talk Shows and Radio programs. He also did filming for his new musical videos. From the reports reaching his fan club, the edited versions of "What Are We Fighting For?" and "Angels of Heaven" have already hit the local TV channels. Both of these videos were edited at the Brutal Tracks Studio in Waterloo Street. Still to be released are "Welcome to Guyana" and "Bourda Market Bounce". Plans are in the works for him to be in Guyana in mid- to late August for a formal launching of these and his other musical videos. Slingshot is scheduled to perform for Caribana's Last Lap Lime in Toronto, Canada, on August 7, after which he is to appear in New York on August 19 for a Corentyne Reunion Dance. On August 26 at Le Meridien Pegasus in Guyana, he will be officially launching his "Welcome to Guyana" musical video. He and his Guyana crew have already set the wheels in motion with plans for their Mash 2007 Road March entry: “Welcome to Guyana ...!" Guyanese revelers, and the expected throngs of tourists coming to Guyana for the various cricket matches to be held here, will be in for a very pleasant, robust, and enjoyable tramp down to National Park led by Slingshot's float and costumed celebrants. NEBO RECORDS Black Culture's debut is a warm and nourishing reggae album Rosie Parke / rosie@mtneborecords.com / 301-395-1013 (Washington, DC) - On June 1, 2006, freelance writer and reggae music critic, Ted Boothroyd of New Brunswick, Canada, gave Mt. Nebo Records recording artist, Black Culture rave reviews for his debut album "Lion's Den Adversity." In his monthly column for http://www.jahworks.org (a leading Web site dedicated to Caribbean culture), Boothroyd had only compliments to bestow on Black Culture and stated "Black Culture is not a group, but a guy. And not just any guy, but this generation's Ijahman Levi. If you know Ijahman, that may sound like extravagant praise, but just listen to "Haile I Selassie I." (In fact you have, if you've heard last year's Bambu Station compilation, Talkin' Roots II.) What you hear on that track reflects exactly what you will find throughout this disc: thoughtful, beautiful singing and chanting over a patient, steady one-drop. You'll also find subtle, pretty melodies and impeccable arrangements. This is gorgeous reggae, attractively packaged for good measure." The "A" rating and accolades that Black Culture received are further reinforced by other comments made by Mr. Boothroyd, who indicated that Black Culture's music is more impressive when you read about some of the adversities he faced. Boothroyd made reference to Black Culture's background, influences, and collaboration with the VI's Bambu Station - "His early exposure to soul music gave way to the beats and the vibes of Rap music and Hip Hop culture through which he became adept at the lyricism and floetry of the genre. But in a non-standard twist, he then adopted the Rastafarian outlook and lifestyle, tuned into roots reggae, and even founded a cultural gathering place to promote 'communal livity.' Apparently he was awaiting trial for an unidentified Babylon offence when he joined with the talented Bambu Station crew and recorded all these songs over a period of a single, intense week. It's a remarkable setting for all the creativity and beauty that shines forth in the music." Boothroyd went on to say - "Given the artist's insistence on stability and reason and responsible behavior, you might expect something akin to wimpiness in the music itself. Nope. Not wimpy. There's muscle here, and variety. It's by turns luxurious, spare, dynamic, atmospheric, bubbly, pensive, friendly, challenging. 'Never underrate a good cup a cocoa,' Black Culture advises in one of his songs. Never underestimate a good, warm and nourishing reggae album either, I would advise. This is one." The entire review can be found at http://www.jahworks.org/v2/musicreviewsdetail.asp?ID=22. "Lion's Den Adversity" was produced by Bambu Station and is distributed by Mt. Nebo Records. Doniki's highly enjoyable first solo album "Radikal Expressions" is certain to propel his musical career several steps forward. Conscious singer Elijah Prophet delivers a solid debut album entitled "King Of Kings". Doctor Alimentado's album "House of Singles" is a compelling set of 'lost and found' pieces from Jamaica's musical history. His career to date has seen a stream of chart-topping hits worldwide and his unique talent has already attracted mega artists such as Sting, Aswad and UB40 to feature on his tracks. Born and raised in Birmingham, England , Pato was introduced to music as an MC in his stepfather¹s traveling reggae disco sound-system act. At a very young age, he was already mixing records and ³toasting² (fast Jamaican rapping to a heavy beat.) While establishing a strong, local following and reputation, he caught the ear of the English Beat¹s Ranking Roger, who took young Pato under his wing and pushed him Into becoming a musical performer in his own right and expanding his sights beyond Birmingham. It paid off. With the release of his first two albums - ³Never Give In² and ³Vision Of the World², Pato¹s status began to blossom around the world. Two subsequent studio records, ³Universal Love² and ³Wize Up² combined with constant touring firmly entrenched him as a musical force to be reckoned with. Although Pato has always had major success in the United States (album sales and touring), he is a bona fide megastar in Europe and South America, selling over 3,000,000 albums and headline stadium tours. His fifth studio album ³Stay Positive² spurred the Top 5 UK single, ³Groovin¹.² Mystic Roots are winners of the 2005 Los Angeles Music Award for Best Pop/Reggae Album, Mystic Roots Band serves up an original style blending reggae, hip-hop, and dancehall, with overtones of rock, funk, and ska. MRB is consistently placed at the top of playlists by DJs & listeners of all musical genres. MRB's own national primetime TV special on TLC reached half a million viewers. This Chico-born, now San Diego-based group embraces the nature of roots reggae wholeheartedly and performs it confidently. The list of bands that they have shared the stage with reads like a "who's who" of reggae music, including The Wailers, Pato Banton, Gregory Isaacs, Jimmy Cliff, as well as Jurassic 5, Long Beach Dub All Stars, Sir Mix-a-Lot, Ozomatli, and Digital Underground to name just a few. Having independently sold close to 10,000 albums, topping Amazon.com's chart of independent artist sales, and killing music download sites with their underground hit "Pass" (go check for yourself right now!), it's no wonder why Mystic Roots Band was recently voted #1 band in Playboy Magazine's #1 party college town, Chico California, and was TOP RANKED in both Reggae and Hip-Hop categories on myspace.com with over 30 million members for over six months - and still going strong. Fans describe MRB's style as a unique combination of No Doubt, Sublime, The Police, Sean Paul, The Fugees and Cypress Hill with the spirit and consciousness of Bob Marley and Spearhead. This diverse sound enables MRB to continually produce dynamic, cutting edge songs that fans are immediately drawn to. When coming to an MRB concert you are guaranteed more than just music for your ears, but rather a high-energy and powerful experience you'll never forget.
