Pre-order "Real and Personal" today and be one of the first to get this highly anticipated release! ALBUM DESCRIPTION: On this new project, Papa San continues to present faith-based themes in his fresh sonically entertaining style of Dancehall Reggae. In the early-80's, putting a rap and highly rhythmic spin on the traditional melodic reggae groove of masters like Bob Marley and others, Papa San was instrumental in forging what is known today as Dancehall music. Papa San states, "Dancehall is really just a branch off of the reggae tree. It was first called toasting when DJs began to put lyrics more to rhythms than melodies." Papa San punctuated his celebrated career in the mainstream with Billboard charting projects that broke records for his musical genre. As a Gospel artist he has collected 12 Marlin Awards (Caribbean equivalent to Dove Awards and Stellar Awards) and a Stellar Award for "God and i" (2004). One of the singles from "God and i," 'Step Pon Di Enemy' was video of the month on TBN and earned him Artist of the Year in New York, England and the Caribbean. His first album "Victory" entered number 5 on the Reggae Billboard Chart and "God and I" made it into the top 10. [1141465163.jpg] The debut single, 'More Life,' is currently impacting Gospel and Urban radio as well as Reggae mix shows. Manager Daniel Herd (S.L.A.M! Events, Artists & Speakers, Inc.) firmly believes, "Given the universal acceptance of San's mainstream contemporaries (Sean Paul, Shaggy and Busta Rhymes), 'More Life' shows promise of crossing over into the Contemporary Christian, Hip Hop and World Music markets." "All one needs to do is look at the career of the late Bob Marley and the global success of Reggae Music. Bob sang about the struggle and faith in Jah...Papa San sings about the solution to the struggle and the power of the Gospel!" Herd further asserts 'More Life' has already caused promoters to invite Papa San to large festivals in Jamaica and the greater West Indies, China, the UK, Germany and Canada, I just hope Sony/BMG can keep up with International distribution." Produced by Papa San, Eddie Perez, Maurice Gregory and Rohan Harrison, Real & Personal is notable in its musical accessibility and recognizable rapid-fire lyrics along with solo highlights by special guests. As the top Christian artist in the gospel dancehall genre, Papa San brings his trademark sound to millions of fans the world over. GOSPELREGGAE.COM PARTNERS WITH THE URBAN GOSPEL ALLIANCE FOR THE UGI AWARDS: [ugaHdr.gif] For Immediate Release: Oakland, CA, February 6th, 2006--The Urban Gospel Alliance announces a new partnership with GospelReggae.com (a division of Lion of Zion Entertainment) to further develop the Reggae category for the Urban Gospel Industry (UGI) Awards. This new and improved Reggae Category will be powered by GospelReggae.com, the online authority for gospel reggae and World music. GospelReggae.com boasts the world's largest gospel reggae webstore selling hundreds of titles and apparel to both retail customers and whol esale vendors. They recently launched their own online radio station and a brand new digital download service where fans can buy songs (in MP3 format) by top gospel reggae artists for only 99 cents. "We are excited about this new relationship with GospelReggae.com," said UGA founder and national director, Curtis Jermany. "It has long been our desire to push urban gospel music beyond the constraints of Nashville and give people a global perspective of what God is doing throughout the United States and the rest of the world. Working with Mark Mohr and his staff is a perfect fit since they have their fingers on the pulse of gospel reggae and world music." "We have long desired to put together an award show to help reward the artists in this burgeoning genre for all of their hard work and excellent musical ministries," said GospelReggae.com president, Mark Mohr. "However, rather than starting our own ceremony from scratch , we found it best to partner with the successful UGA to help realize our vision. When I started Christafari back in 1989, I felt like I was the only one in the world singing gospel reggae. Now, seventeen years later, there are hundreds of gospel reggae artists throughout the World and we are thankful to Curtis and the UGA for acknowledging this and helping the genre grow even more!" This new partnership has expanded the reggae award section of the UGI Awards from five to nine categories. The nominees for the 2006 UGI Reggae Awards (Powered by GospelReggae.com) will be top-selling/radio charting gospel reggae artists that have released a hit album/song within the last 12 months. Gospel reggae fans will be able to vote for their favorite artists online in two months at www.gospelreggae.com and www.urbangospelalliance.com. The updated categories for the UGI Reggae Awards (Powered by GospelReggae.com) are: REGGAE: Album of the Year Artist of the Year Best New Artist Producer of the Year Song of the Year Reggae Recording of the Year Dancehall Recording of the Year Compilation Album of the Year Concept Album of the Year The nominees for each category will be announced on May 10th, 2006, at the Bobby Jones International Gospel Industry Retreat. Then Gospel reggae fans will be able to vote for their favorite artists at www.gospelreggae.com and www.urbangospelalliance.com. The winners will be announced at the official award ceremony held in Houston, TX on June 28, 2006. The annual UGI awards are the culmination of the weeklong UGA Conference (in partnership with Edwin & Walter Hawkins Music & Arts Love Fellowship conference). This conference will include panels and workshops geared toward the urban gospel industry and ministry, while giving attendees opportunities to participate in many mainstream gospel events. MORE SONGS AND EXCLUSIVES ADDED TO THE NEW GOSPELREGGAE.COM DIGITAL DOWNLOAD SERVICE [downloads_header.jpg] http://www.gospelreggae.com/downloads Did you know that Apple Computers are now selling one hundred iPods every sixty seconds? With over 44 million iPods now in use worldwide and growing at a phenomenal rate, a future where music is delivered and consumed digitally is no longer just a dream but becoming more and more of a pressing reality each and every minute. This affects each and every genre of music worldwide--especially gospel reggae! Last month GospelReggae.com officially joined the onli ne musical revolution with a very successful launch of our own digital download service. Now your favorite music can be purchased with the simple click of a mouse for only $0.99 cents a song. Here are some of the additions to our digital download service since our last update: Mr. Lynx, "Woman of virtue" (exclusive single) Sherwin Gardner, "Throw Him Out" (exclusive single) Sherwin Gardner, "It Ain't Over" (exclusive single) Sherwin Gardner, "Beautiful" (exclusive single) Sherwin Gardner, "Everywhere" (exclusive single) Sherwin Gardner, "Lend A Hand" (exclusive single) Sherwin Gardner, "Righteousness" (exclusive single) Septimus, "Mama, I Love You" (exclusive single) Isaac Blackman and Christafari, "Lion of Zion Remix" (exclusive single) Howie Hutchinson, "Naked Truth" (previously unreleased album) Howie Hutchi nson, "Journeyman" (album) Sherwin Gardner, "Closer" (album) Isaac Blackman, "In Your Eyes" (album) Jah Servant, "Good Soil" (album) Geneman, "Righteous In Christ" (album) Geneman, "The Light" (album) Solomon Jabby, "Zion Gates" (album) Landlord, "We need Peace" (album) DJ Counsellor, "Totally Linked" (album) DJ Counsellor, "Truth Compilation" (album) Zema, "Black Sheep" (album) Zema, Look At The Heart" (album) With higher quality MP3s than iTunes, and a massive collection of Gospel Reggae downloads that you can't find anywhere else, GospelReggae.com is the place to shop if you are looking for value, selection and simplicity. Whether you are experienced with digital music downloads or downloading for the first time, you will find the buying process at www.gospelreggae.com straightforwa rd and user-friendly. You will have the flexibility to play downloaded music on your Windows PC or Mac, burn songs to a CD, and transfer your music to any compatible portable device. Things are changing rapidly in the music industry. Over the last few decades we have seen the virtual extinction of the 8 track, vinyl records and the cassette tape. Even the compact disc risks being placed on the endangered species list. These days you can fit your entire collection of music in your pocket on an iPod Nano (or similar MP3 player). It's time to join the revolution and fill up that Nano with top selling Gospel Reggae artists like Christafari, Sherwin Gardner and Mr. Lynx. Believe it or not, over the last three years CD sales throughout the world have DECREASED by over 300 million units. Last year over 1,500 record stores went out of business in the US, yet Nielsen SoundScan reports 332.7 million digital downloads sold last year. That's an increase of 148 per cent from a year ago. And since people can now audition the music that they want and buy the songs that they like for less than a buck from download services like Apple's iTunes, Rhapsody, MSN Music, Napster and now GospelReggae.com, inexpensive legal digital downloads are actually curbing piracy. Nowadays, many music buyers reason, "Why steal something when you can buy it for less than the cost of a soda?" "For years I have been telling people that this is the future of the music industry," said Mark Mohr, president of GospelReggae.com, Lion of Zion and founder of Christafari. "After last Christmas, almost every adult in America owns or has access to an iPod (or similar MP3 player). It's not the future any longer--it's the present. And at GospelReggae.com we have always tried to keep our fingers on the pulse of what is going on in the music industry." Over two years ago the leadership of GospelReggae.com concocted a plan t hat has now come to fruition thanks to the hard work of Fritz Madden, Peyton Ritter and Mohr. Stage one was to launch GospelReggae.com, the world's largest online gospel reggae/world music store (this happened last Summer). Stage two was to set up a 24-hour Internet radio station so that Gospel Reggae fans could hear the music before they purchased it (this took place late last Summer). Stage three was to launch a wholesale division of GospelReggae.com so that store vendors, DJs and sound systems across the World could buy quality gospel reggae CDs at wholesale prices (this took place last Fall). Stage four was to set up a digital download domain within GospelReggae.com. With the launch of this new groundbreaking digital download domain, GospelReggae.com has set out to revolutionize the Gospel Reggae industry one download at a time. "Our ultimate goal is to reach this crooked and depraved generation with the good news of Jesus Christ through inexpensive posi tive music," Mark Mohr. Many of our items are back in stock including our best-selling Cool Runnings cap. We have also recently added some new items including a White Puka Shell Necklace, a Reggae Rag (Red, Gold and Green Face Towel), a Black Skull Cap (Kufi or Kipa) and a Lion of Judah Lanyard (Necklace and Keychain). Here are the details on two of our featured items: REGGAE RAG (RED, GOLD AND GREEN FACE TOWEL): [59_t.jpg] Whenever "Le'me see yuh rags!" is shouted from a stage in the Caribbean (especially in Trinidad), your average soca or reggae artist is sure to see a sea of rags in the air waving fev erishly. This is Caribbean culture at its best--forget the applause and wave that thing like a helicopter! In the humid Caribbean, you can't go anywhere without your rag. And though it may look like one, this isn't your ordinary face towel. This is a legitimate red, gold and green reggae rag purchases on the streets of Port of Spain Trinidad and delivered directly to your doorstep courtesy of GospelReggae.com. This 12x17 inch 100% cotton towel is perfect for wiping the beads of sweat from your face on a warm day, waving at a concert, or simply dangling out of your pocket as a style. Some even lay their rag across the dashboard of their car to make a statement to others on the road. However you choose to sport your rag, know that you are choosing to represent Afro-Caribbean culture with pride. Order yours today! SHOP NOW --> http://www.gospelreggae.com and click on the "Apparel" Icon. LION OF JUDAH LANYARD (NECKLACE AND KEYCHAIN): [60_t.jpg] Are you sick of losing your keys? Then clip 'em on to this eye-catching Lion of Judah lanyard and they'll be easy to find. My wife has one of these and she loops it through her purse and clips her keys onto the other end. This way she never forgets her purse and her keys when she's on the go. If you are a forgetful guy you can just attach this to your belt loop and slip the clipped on keys in your pocket. And the plastic clip makes disconnecting your keys a breeze. This is more than just a necklace with a keychain. This 21-inch long Lion of Judah red, gold and green lanyard has a metal thumb hook and two heavy-duty plastic clips. It has a detailed Lion of the Tribe of Judah pattern silk-screened on it. Suited for various uses, this lanyard was made for far more than just holding your backstage passes. Order yours today! SHOP NOW --> http://www.gospelreggae.com and click on the "Apparel" Icon. 6>. This tour features the finest talents coming out of the US Virgin Island of St Croix including Army, Abjah amd NiyoRah, all backed by the Red I Band, plus Donnie Dread. This community event is all ages so bring the whole family to enjoy the music plus craft vendors & Ital food and drinks from Kat's Kitchen! These vocalists are the latest artists to emerge from the small Caribbean Island following the recent success of Midnite and Dezarie, who have taken the International Reggae scene by storm. In the early 70's, Jamaica was bubbling with an incredible amount of untapped musical and vocal talents. That same level of energy, enthusiasm and potential is present today in the Virgin Island of St. Croix. This tour surrounds the release of two new albums from the I Grade Label featuring Abja's second effort, "Mahogany Road," as well as the second album for NiyoRah titled "Purification Session.." These new works have been well received by Reggae DJs and fans across the globe and are currently climbing the charts in the U.S. and Europe. Army is to be counted among the many conscious singers and players of instruments from St. Croix who are worthy of international recognition. Army (Fritzmaurice Williams) was born and raised on St. Croix, in the Virgin Islands. He began his musical journey at the age of five as a member of the youth choir at the church his family attended, laying the foundation for what would become a very promising musical career. After relocating to the New York City, completing his education, and serving in the US Army (which is how he got his name), Army returned to St. Croix and became deeply involved in the local reggae scene. In 2000, Army's first album -"Yesterday's News" - was released on Glamorous Records, with production provided by Dean Pond. In 2002, Army linked up with Dub Rise Records who released his second album, "Struggler", along with a re-release of "Yesterday's News." 2003 saw Army releasing the single "Calling Jah Army", a powerful duet with Luciano. With this solid foundation of tunes under his belt, Army embarked on the recording of his highly anticipated third album on the I Grade Label, "Rasta Awake." Largely produced by legendary guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Tuff Lion (of Midnite and Bambu Station), the album is a masterpiece of all-live instrumentation roots reggae. Army is firmly committed to using his music as a weapon in the war for spiritual renewal and justice for all peoples. As Army describes: "I want to send positive universal messages to people through my music, without the commercialism we see so much today. For me the music is a healing." Abja is a multi-talented singer, singjay, songwriter, and producer hailing from St. Croix in the Virgin Islands. While "Inna Red I Hour" (I Grade 2004) is Abja's first full-length release, he has been polishing his studio skills and sharing his gifts with audiences in NYC for several years, as a former vocalist and producer with the Survival Soundz crew out of Brooklyn. Abja is a powerful performer whose spirit and energy transmits to everyone around him. He sings with a strength of purpose, with a dynamic and confident, yet humble, stage presence. Nigel "NiyoRah" Olivacce was born on October 9, 1980 in the coastline village of Pointe Michel, Dominica. At age 4, he moved to St. Thomas, in the U.S. Virgin Islands. By age 16, NiyoRah began chanting on the streets about the life experiences of the Savan ghetto in downtown Charlotte Amalie, and at 18, NiyoRah decided to pursue a career in reggae music. He took on the name NiyoRah - a combination of his nickname growing up and out of respect for the omnipotent power of the sun. In 1998, NiyoRah joined with six other reggae artists to co-found the group Star Lion Family. His voice can be heard on Star Lion Family's EP Brighter Days released in November 2003. The songs on NiyoRah's debut LP "A Different Age" delve into a wide range of issues, including cultural living, love for nature, strengthening of all peoples, especially Africans, and spiritual growth. Born and raised in St. Croix, Donnie Dread's first album, "Set De Pace" was released in 2004 on his own record label, Groundbreaking Records. Committed to roots and consciousness, Donnie Dread's lyrics are always upful and thick with messages. First featured on the I Grade compilation, "Weep Not", Donnie Dread and Tippy continue their collaboration in music and production of music coming out of St Croix. He started making music in Jamaica around 15 years old, singing culture music from the very beginning. After moving to NY in 1990 Black Prince attended Jackson H.S. in Queens where he would DJ and make beats in school. He has been in the studio since 18 years old. From 1998-2001 he released three records on his own label called Childs Play. After closing the label in 2001 he started to perform on shows on the East Coast with artists like Jah Mason, Richie Spice and Elephant Man. He performed on the Easter Showcase in Jamaica in 2002 with Capleton and other Artists. In 2004 he signed to Fire Lion Records, and completed his album - Love., which he co-produced. In addition to performing, he also produces and makes tracks for other artists. A true Jamaican son. Old saying: you are not a true Jamaican until you have at least 5 JOBS! - Black Prince of Royalty Is proving that he's is a true Rasta born Jamaican - Industrious is he and staying true to the Roots - Reggae. Mushiya's personal Note: I've seen the Love video, so I'm going to say two words! POWERFUL PRODUCTION. With so much war and hate and slackness out there today, it makes me proud to see my brothers pushing forward the Roots of Reggae with the continuing to put forth the face of our Country Jamaica in a positive light. with the message being "Love", "Peace" and "Unity". It is what the world needs today. My hats off to. Black Prince of Royalty - In his words regarding inspiration: "Without Rastafari there would be nothing else. He gives the songs, voice, sound and inspiration. I sing culture music because that's where the truth is". Black Prince of Royalty works very hard and is still Youthful! Woe to the World of Music. We serve the massive, not the corporations, and we are capable of reaching two-thirds of Oregon's population plus much of SW Washington. We focus on social justice, the environment, music and other crucial programming that's not aired anywhere else in our area. Deadheads, Native Americans, activists. and the reggae/rasta community. We at the "'BOO" are all on the air forwarding truth and attempting to "edutain" our diverse communities.   You can hear us ANYWHERE on the live stream at www.kboo.fm So please tune in. You can also learn much more about the station & our reggae programming at this site.   KBOO has a fund raising pledge drive twice a year, once in both the Spring and Fall. Virtually 90% of financial funding for KBOO comes from our listeners; during these pledge drives, "Subvert the Pledge Drive" initiatives prior to each drive, and other letter solicitations throughout the year. But our primary breadwinners are the Spring and Fall drives. Oh, there is the little $25,000 grant that comes from the government agency - Corporation for Public Broadcasting, but this is a mere drop in the bucket when our yearly budget is approximately $675,000! Currently reggae programming does not bring in a lot of funds. This is a situation that I feel we together can alter. I want to change the amount of financial contributions from reggae not just for the funding aspect of it but, for the status of the music itself. I want reggae respected! And if it takes dollars to get that respect then so be it! The Spring 2006 Pledge Drive begins Wednesday, March 22 and runs through Tuesday, April 11, so the time to act is at hand!   Here is how you can help us, and-just as importantly--how we can help you, hopefully! We are asking you to donate copies of your latest CD/album release, reggae related book, related t-shirts and/or other materials to our Spring Pledge drive effort to use as premiums ("thank you" gifts) for members who pledge monetary support to KBOO. When you do this we put your name and your product's name and description on the air. It's better than advertising because our DJ's and pitchers talk up the product, play the music, or read from the material, and you get airplay, individual, and word-of-mouth promotions.   While your contribution may seem paling in the face of all that we strive to overcome, in reality it is enormous. The whole picture has many small elements that help to make it a vibrant and substantial one.   If you need more information, contact me, anytime, at:   (503) 860 8647, or email me at: jahforini@comcast.net My address is: 2520 NE Couch #3 Portland, OR 97232 The stations address is: KBOO 90.7 FM, 20 SE 8th, Portland, OR 97214 (503 231 8032)   Together, we can Forward The Reggae Vibe, EVERYTIME!   With Respect, Ras Danny RAW# 301 Higher Reasoning Reggae Time KBOO 90.7 FM Full Strength Community Radio *********************************************************************** In the abundance of water, the fool is thirsty Forward the Reggae Vibe...Every Time !
