Bob Schoenfeld began going to Jamaica earlier than anybody in St. Louis that I know, and he was on the early cusp of American label heads recording reggae artists in Jamaica. I learned much from Bob, who was knowledgeable about Jamaican music and culture on many levels. I invite REGGAE AMBASSADORS WORLDWIDE Internet radio listeners to check out my upcoming program, which calls attention to the merits of Bob's musical legacy, Nighthawk Records. "Positive Vibrations" (8-10 p.m. on KDHX 88.1 FM in St. Louis) will pay tribute to Nighthawk's musical works in the first hour of programming this Saturday, October 28. Tune in and hear cuts from the early, important (and sadly out of print) anthology LPs Wiser Dread and Knotty Vision as well as vital works by the Itals, the Tennors, the Meditations, Winston Jarrett, Justin Hinds, the Gladiators and others. Although Nighthawk's activity declined in the last few years, mirroring a drawdown for serious in the reggae industry overall, Bob contributed to a work of importance devotees, researchers and collectors of Jamaican music. He and Michael Turner co-edited Roots Knotty Roots, a Jamaican music discography that came to fruition only after years of painstaking documentary work and fact-checking. Its latest edition encompasses nearly 50,000 titles, making it a cornerstone resource for collectors. If you're unfamiliar with Roots Knotty Roots, check Zinc Fence's review, which is appended with a brief interview with Schoenfeld, at _www.reggaezine.co.uk/rootsknottyroots.html_ (http://www.reggaezine.co.uk/rootsknottyroots.html) . At 9 p.m. I will have a live interview with the Neutral Sisters, Kyra and Bianca Noons, who did a splendid set when I saw them at last summer's Sierra Nevada World Music Festival. Their new album is Live-N-Direct, and you can learn the story behind these conscious women artists at _www.neutralsisters.com/prelim/index2.html_ (http://www.neutralsisters.com/prelim/index2.html) #. "Positive Vibrations" is hosted by Professor Skank and Michael Kuelker, who alternate shows, and it airs every Saturday from 8 - 10 p.m. central time. The show can be heard online at _www.kdhx.org_ (http://www.kdhx.org) . KDHX 88.1 FM is a 43,000 watt community radio station serving the St. Louis area and promotes independently produced local television and radio programming. Believe it, community radio is here to stay. We're not going gently into that good night of corporate media oblivion. Featuring sweet reflections of love, gripping, headline-torn news reports, moving tales of spiritual awakening and affecting calls for unity, Gone Are the Days is the first album from the Tulsa, Oklahoma-born, Arkansas-based singer, whose voice has for the past three years teetered on the edge of broader recognition. Recorded in Kingston, Jamaica, at the fabled Tuff Gong studios (birthplace of iconic albums by Bob Marley and his sons), as well as Shaggy’s Big Yard Studio, among others, Gone Are the Days features the stamp of approval from some of the genre’s heavyweights: The disc features collaborations with leading second-generation roots reggae artist Luciano (“Ruff Times) and Mikey General (“Universal Love”), as well as the smooth voices of Erica Newell and Rochelle Bradshaw (backing vocalists for Ziggy Marley and Luciano, respectively). Was released on iTunes.com in September (in stores Jan.2007) by New Door Records/UME, the 15-track disc also finds Israel, who has toured nationally with Luciano and Abijah, backed by a litany of top reggae musicians, including saxophonist Dean Fraser, lead guitarist Earl “Chinna” Smith and bassist Chris Meredith, who co-produced Gone Are the Days with Israel. For Israel, born Joseph Montgomery Fennel, the disc represents the culmination of a lifelong fascination with the culture and music of Jamaica. It represents his strong belief in Jah (Yahweh) as the almighty God, and comes after countless sojourns to the island country to study the faith, music and culture. Conscious and idealistic, the songs composing Gone Are the Days point to a better way to live, to a better world. “This CD, what it’s really all about to me, is bringing things out that haven’t been said,” says Israel. “This is not a religious album. I’m just trying to promote the truth, and hopefully other people will want to hear it! www.josephisrael.com For further information, contact: Mark Goldstein -516-822-8080 lionsofisrael@hotmail.com Amy Shapas So You Can 831-479-0711 ph 831-479-4242 fax soyoucan@sbcglobal.net www.soyoucan.com [3] *=*=*=*=*=*=*= *=*=*=*=*=*=*= *=*=*=*=*=*=*= >From: Sister Yasmin [REGGAE AMBASSADORS WORLDWIDE #] Subject: FINAL PATO BANTON PRESS RELEASE Date: Wed, 25 Oct 2006 16:44:28 -0700 From: Yasmin Solomon PSA/PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release - October 25, 2006 Contact: DJ Sister Yasmin (707)884-4703; sisteryasmin@hotmail.com UK REGGAE SUPERSTAR PATO BANTON RETURNS TO MENDOCINO & HUMBOLDT COUNTIES FOR 3 SHOWS ON NOVEMBER 9, 10, & 11, 2006 PATO BANTON, well-loved, world-reknown Reggae singer and toaster from Birmingham, England will perform at three events in Mendocino and Humboldt counties in November. Date: Fri, 27 Oct 2006 13:04:58 -0400 From: Mt. NEBO RECORDS IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Bambu Station Gets 5 Star Rating! by E. Benjamin / contactus@mtneborecords.com / 202-321-2263 October 2006 (WASHINGTON, D.C.) Bambu Station, the dynamic roots reggae band from the Virgin Islands, was recently featured on Reggae-Reviews.com (www.reggae-reviews.com). To view the source article and read previous reviews of Bambu Station and other outstanding reggae music across the world, click: http://www.reggae-reviews.com/bambustation.html. ""Every situation is a chance to grow," sings Jalani Horton. The first four songs on "Break the Soil" make it clear that Bambu Station has grown more experimental and eclectic since its classic album One Day. "Brotherhood" is straight-ahead roots in the classic Bambu Station style, but "Beloved People," with its meditative flute intro, heralds new musical directions. The next track, "I Rememba," has a jazzy groove that is more playful and breezy than the somber tones we have come to expect from Bamb Station. "Sense Enemy" recalls 1970s-era roots, but with a modern twist, as Horton's vocals provide counterpoint against powerful spoken-word poetry. The remainder of the album continues to expand the band's sound. "Chance to Grow" features lead vocals from Reemah, who sweetens the song with her sugary voice. "Who? (Litany of Liars)" may be the best song on the album. It is a stunning combination of deep roots rhythms and delicate harmonies. "Bird's I View" features more airy jazz and Tuff Lion's gorgeous guitar playing. Break the Soil is another masterpiece from Bambu Station. Every track sparkles. The music is more expansive and more richly-textured than on One Day, with no drop off in quality or consistency. Simply put, this album is massive, and not to be missed." -Reggie To securely purchase this "masterpiece" click here http://www.mtneborecords.com/store/catalog.php.
