Although there is only one contested position, that is important enough to participate. Deadline for ballots to be received is Jan 14, 2008, and I should remind you that mail to Guam will take at least 1 week - 10 days, especially during the holiday season. Any member who did not receive a ballot, please contact me immediately so that I can send one to you. Remember to include your RAW membership number on the ballot! I am writing each of you with respect to the only contested position on this year's election ballot - the DJ/Label Coordinator. As most of you may be aware, both Ras Danny Fallon (RAW#301) and Christopher Jahmeek (RAW#1792) have been nominated for this position. I urge each and every one of you to: 1) VOTE; and 2) Vote for Ras Danny Fallon (RAW#301) as RAW's next DJ/Record Label Coordinator. Here's why: Since meeting Ras Danny backstage at the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival (SNWMF) in 2000, I have become aware of his tireless efforts in helping to promote reggae music in Oregon and throughout the west coast. Ras Danny regularly communicates with me (also a reggae DJ) and others regarding new releases and interesting (though sometimes obscure) music that I might not be familiar with. Ras Danny has been to every SNWMF since - frequents the RAW booth there - and truly connects with label representatives & DJ's alike. Ras Danny's posts at the SNWMF Phorum are an excellent public record of the type of positive impact RAS Danny would have as RAW's DJ Coordinator (here's a link to them: http://www.snwmf.com/phorum/search.php?f=1&search=Ras+Danny&globalsearch=0&m atch=1&date=0&fldauthor=1 ). I believe that RAS Danny's "mission statement" (reprinted on the ballots you all received by mail) articulates some concrete contributions that he is prepared to make in order to help make RAW all it can be. His 'vision' of moving RAW forward is very much in harmony with mine. As the incoming Secretary, having a respected colleague and long-time contributor to both RAW the scene, would be an invaluable asset as we work to infuse RAW with new blood and fresh vision. If you haven't noticed it is All veteran names....again. I think the newly formed Reggae Academy and its Reggae awards will recognize the true progressive field of the music without taking away from the Grammys as well. MTV Networks has sold Tempo, the first and only 24-hour pan-Caribbean cable television network, to a group of investors headed by founder and the newly appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Frederick A. Morton, Jr. Morton founded Tempo while he was employed at MTV Networks. Terms of the deal, which closed on Thursday November 8, 2007, were not disclosed. Tempo has always elevated the music of the Caribbean in the Caribbean and I know they want to do that worldwide. The channel was launched by MTV Networks in November, 2005. Since then, the company has obtained cable distribution in 25 islands, reaching nearly 400,000 households and an estimated 1.6 million viewers. Tyrone Taylor died on Saturday December 1 from prostate cancer in Kingston. The St. Elizabeth-born Taylor, who was 50 years old, had fallen on hard times. He suffered two strokes in recent years and spoke openly of a substance abuse problem that derailed a promising career. It was this song Cottage in Negril, that made him popular. Bernard Jackson the former lead singer of the R&B group Surface has released an uptempo reggae version of Surface?s 1989 hit single Happy. Additionally, Jackson is working with reggae label Wagon Music Works to release his first reggae album next year. Lastly, it looks like Feb will be reggae month in Jamaica. In our new releases this week first from Riverstone Records & Mystic Urchin it's the debut album from Rootz Underground called 'Movement.' This group is part of a new movement of rok reggae coming out of Jamaica. The lead singer Stephen has a Marley vibe because hes original and all I can say is look out for this group. Ruff Cut Records releases Hutchy's 'My Time.' I can't quite make this one out. Zion Roots music releases 'Reggae Baje Vol 2.' This compilation offers new reggae artists a chance to shine. Music Video Distributors releases 'Giddimani 2007,' which means it has to be Perfect, the artist, thing since that is his trademark. It's a concert in Jamaica starring all good artists especially those of the newer generation & it gives you the full meaning of 'Giddimani.' Heartbeat Records releases a limited edition Studio One colored vynl record singles box to promote the Bob Marley & the Wailers cd 'Another Dance: Rarities from Studio One. Ziggy Marley re-releases his 'Love Is My Religion' cd as the first official release of the new Tuff Gong International label. It's a nice revisit to the album, which has all the original tracks plus 3 bonus live cuts that are not new. It has opened my ears to 'Into The Groove.' Lastly, VP Records releases their biggest compilation next to Reggae Gold, Strictly The Best 37 & 38. The biggest artists doing the biggest songs it all here reggae & dancehall wise & this year is no exception. Each week we ask a trivia question first last week we asked, 'Hello Carol' was originally called 'Hello My Love.' It happened to be released just before the holiday season, so why the name change? Well many thought it was a Xmas song but they felt a name change was better so they capitalized on that by putting Carol This week we ask, The Gladiators signed with which major label? In case you don't know. we will have all that & more on next weeks edition... His solo debut album, "Committed," was self-produced. The title track Committed exploded the Jamaican air waves and spent 8 weeks at number one on the Love 101 FM's top 10 chart. LOVE CONVICTION is the kind of deep introspective album that most artists aspire to make. "It addresses the issue of misplaced priorities that plagues humanity," Stoddart said. "I pray this album makes a difference in the lives of all who come within earshot." Stoddart went on to explain that he was inspired to write many of the songs from the album from his closer than ever relationship with God and the revelation of The Word revealed to him by the Holy Spirit. From the militant expressive Move On, to the easy-listening Live Love and Learn to the Foot stumping Reggae Rock the album mirrors the greatest commandments Love God and Love each other. LOVE CONVICTIONS is an accompanying tool for overcoming adversity. Move On is an encouraging theme full of allegory of a Christian's fight to keep focused on the Promised Land in the face of opposition. Lives in Smoke takes a serious look at the dangers of drug abuse to both the physical and spiritual man. Love in any Language addresses the issue of disunity on a global scale and speaks to the need for ethnic, religious and social harmony among all nations. Immediately after the appeal for peace you are led into an atmosphere of worship with the powerful Highest Praise which showcases the talent of Platinum Producer Dale "Dr. Dizzle" Virgo on a modern lovers rock reggae riddim. Background vocals were done by the well acclaimed TNJ and the talented band and production cast included names like Clifton "Johnny" Clarke, Leighton "Floyd" Henry, Craig McDonald, Benjy Myaz, Hugh Palmer, Sly Dunbar, Rohan Dwyer, Damond Stoddart, Zamar, Dalton Brownie, St. Matthew and members of the Code Red Band. Jamaican born Stoddart entered the gospel music scene in the mid 90's touring with the Grace Thrillers and has shared stage with the likes of Shirley Caesar, FC Barnes, Morgan Heritage, Sherene Anderson and Judy Mowat (Former member of Bob Marley's )I-Threes to name a few. In essence Stoddart is a dynamic reggae gospel artist both on stage and off; he is a dedicated Christian and a top-class musician. This album is a must have for all reggae music lovers and gospel music lover alike. It's a steal if you fall in both categories!
