New CD: Minister Goddy Goddy, "Ghetto Priest" ARTIST: Minister Goddy Goddy ALBUM: Ghetto Priest GENRE: Dancehall LABEL: Faith Anointed Music Ministry $15.99--OUR PRICE: Only $13.97 DOWNLOAD ALBUM: $9.99 ALBUM DESCRIPTION: Minister Goddy Goddy greatly exceeds everyone's expectations with his third studio offering, "Ghetto Priest." This time around, Goddy has grown so much as an artist and producer and delivers an album that is in a league of its own. It's hard to find a weak spot on the album and that's saying a lot given the plethora of songs. Replete with 21 mind-blowing tracks, this LP is solid from beginning to end. It is a virtual all-you-can-eat buffet of gospel dancehall that is sure to satisfy even the most critical fan. Upon first listen I was shocked at how much this artist has grown in terms of vocals, production and lyrical flow. While he may bear the same name, he is not the same old Goddy Goddy that we have grown to love--he is new and improved! There are a bunch of big tunes on this disc such as the s obering "Evil Minds", the contagious "Christian a Christian", the Militant "Warn Dem", the cartoon-like "Satan Mek Mi So It" and the aggressive "Bind Dem". While many of the tracks on this incredible project are pure Jamaican dancehall, there are also some rootsy cuts such as "Let Jah People Go" featuring newcomer Dahlia Ashley. Other noteworthy songs include the culture stylings of "So Right," over Bob Marley's "Waiting in Vain" riddim, "Lift Him Up" Featuring Crissy D and Ryan Mark, "A Fi Go A Heaven" backed by the Katalys Crew and the explosive "What Can I Say?" with roots crooner Mr. Danny. This disc also includes se veral other animated collaborations with artists such as Omar, Kerryann Pinnock, Kareen and Prophecy. This album was executive produced by Minister Goddy Goddy (AKA Howard Reynolds) and released on his own imprint. Three of the tracks were produced by Goddy himself. For the rest of the songs he brought in a diverse set of skilled producers such as Dale "Dr. Dizzle" Virgo, Danny Brownie, Paul Barclay, Patrick Blaire, Canute Niel Ellis and Jermaine Edwards. Overall, this is an excellent package; from the photos to the artwork, the producing to the songwriting and the vocals to the guest appearances, this dancehall epic has everything that I hope for when I buy a dancehall album--and a whole lot more! Buy your copy today. You will love it! SHOP NOW -- > http://www.gospelreggae.com 2>. New CD: Nengo Vieira, Mata Atlantica Artist: Nengo Vieira e tribo d Abraao Album: Mata Atlantica Genre: Roots / Dub Label: Bola de Neve Church $15.99--OUR PRICE: O nly $9.99 (CD) DOWNLOAD ALBUM: $9.99 ALBUM DESCRIPTION: When Christafari recently returned from our successful tour of Brazil, we came back with more than fun stories and great life experiences. We also carried back a box of CDs from our new favorite artist Nengo Vieira. We did a few shows with Nengo on our last tour and were floored by his music, distinct voice, and humble heart for Christ. Though we couldn't speak each other's language, through the help of a translator and a shared love for Reggae and Jesus we got along like family. It usually takes a lot to impress the finicky musicians of Christafari, but Nengo is one of those rare musical gems that is just brimming with talent. He floored us all after just one song! Nengo Vieira lives and breathes reggae and has been doing so for around three decades. Like many other gospel regga e singers, Nengo started off doing secular reggae, but in the mid nineties he came to Christ and since then he has arguably pioneered gospel reggae in Brazil. Now he is a musical minister at Bola De Neve in Santos, Brazil. When he is not leading worship in his home church, he is touring heavily throughout his beautiful country with his backing band and his wife and daughter as his background vocalists! On "Mata Atlantica", Nengo and his Tribo d' Abraao (Tribe of Abraham) join up with Bola music to give a definitive collection of roots songs that would make Marley roll over in his grave. This material IS roots reggae at its best. It doesn't get any tighter than this with organ and clavinet galore and round bass that will surely stretch out your sub woofers. This project is perfection squared. Every track on this 10 song LP is an instant classic that drips of authenticity and sounds like it was recorded in Tuff Gong Studios back in 1979. Though the majority of this album is in Portuguese and what I like to call "Brazinglish", great music transcends all linguistic barriers--and this is BETTER than great! This guy is a living legend. Just listen to the audio samples, the quality of this album speaks for itself. If you like roots reggae then you will LOVE this CD! Buy your copy today and hear the best gospel reggae that Brazil has to offer. Trust me, you won't be disappointed! SHOP NOW --> http://www.gospelreggae.com 3>. Moving 2 the Top is a flemenco tinged dancehall rhythm with a positive message "they can do it, we can too, let's get together cause it's alright, world!" 2. Where has the Love Gone (featuring Smoke Bulga) is another pumping beat with?a bonified hip hop artist peppering this call to conscience. 3. Tribute is based on Marvin Gaye's "Abraham, Martin, and John," and likewise laments the too-soon departure of Reggae heroes Bob Marley, Marcus Garvey, and Joe Higgs. 4. Lovin' Girl is a true Lover's Rock anthem akin to the best of the 70's & early 80's 5. Heaven Knows, another love song with an original feel Dalton Browne arranged with Abijah. 6. Be Happy is a lounge tune who's fluff covers serious advice about cheer in spite of hardship. 7. Overcome (featuring Tevin Campbell) invokes MLK's message: "we shall overcome," with R&B crooner in a duet that works particularly well in the song's music video on YouTube . 8. State of Emergecy works like the best modern roots anthems, calling attention what we're living in today. 9. Nah Give Up is a message to the youths, to keep the faith, on?Calibud's classic remake of the "Forever Loving Jah" rhythm. 10. Swept Away was the original title of this album, in its pre-release format - hails from the Lustre Kings camp - and is a call to awe in the works of The Almighty. 11. Music & Me, adapted from an old song remade by the young Michael Jackson, is a walk through the livelong friendship between an artist and sound itself. 12. Be My Love is a sexy reminisce of Sade with a driving but romantic lilt. 13. Bad Boyz, an ode to gangsters, has all the immediacy of a car chase or bar room brawl. 14. Rasta Love came out through Lustre Kings as well, on their Red Razor rhythm, which advises we "seek Rastafari Love," there's nothing like it! 15. Sun is Shining - what can we say - this remake of Bob Marley's soothing feel good tune underscores the vocal similarity between Abijah and his relative, the King of Reggae (and it reached the European charts in its own right). 16. I Surrender is a traditional gospel traditional delivered with the church based Positive Entertainment Choir. 17. My Best laments that sometimes our own standards might not be?good enough, and in his humility, Abijah asks: "forgive me." 18. Revelation remix (featuring Beenie Man) reinvents the original track (click here to see the original music video on YouTube ), which went straight to #1 in Jamaica, and now has a new life with the dancehall legend that gives it just the right treatment to freshen its delivery to the now generation. 19. No More War captures some of Abijah's stage power (from Island Fest), which only seeing him live can do true justice to. In fact, his touring band Dub Station is on a bunch of stage show recordings. This ending track is only a hint of what's to come "to a dance hall near you," and in future releases. Christopher Martin, the talented singer/performer from Back Pasture in St. Catherine who shot to instant fame and recognition shortly after winning the coveted Digicel Rising Stars title in 2005, is fast becoming one of the most sought after performers on the Jamaican music landscape. With a slate of singles permeating radio and the Jamaican music charts including Giving It and Jamaican Girls, Christopher created history when he became the first Digicel Rising Stars alumni to score a hit single on any chart in Jamaica. ŒIt has been a wonderful journey so far, filled with new and promising encounters. It is also challenging but I love what I am doing, so it makes that much easier¹, Christopher remarked when asked about the journey from being an unknown to a popular personality. Christopher¹s growth as an artiste and an individual ever since he shot onto the scene in 2005 is quite evident. His vocal chops have improved drastically, he is now under the guidance of the Big Yard label which is one of the most prolific musical entities in Jamaica, and he has gained a lot of respect from his peers. back to top <#top> For bookings: * Call: 876.754.1526 * * Click: headlinejamaica.com * * Complete: PDF Booking Form Booking Agents For: * Sean Paul * Wayne Wonder * T.O.K. * Damian Marley * Stephen Marley * Cham * Morgan Heritage * Spragga Benz * Alaine * Tami Chynn * Tessanne * Left Side * Farenheit * Lexxus * The Tamlins * Voice Mail * Assassin * Jovi Rockwell * Chrisinti * Richie Spice * Munga * Pressure * Rootz Underground * Ruff Kutt Crew * Paula Anne Porter * Denise Hunt * Stone Love * Copper Shot * Code Red * Digicel Rising Stars Caught on Camera! Marley Brothers for Jamrock What would the Appleton Jamaica Rum Welcome To Jamrock concert be without the Marley brothers? With the galaxy of stars to hit the stage this Friday (Friday, December 21) night, things just would not be complete without the deadly musical combination of Stephen and Damian x2018;Junior Gongx2019; Marley. The show would be like an almost perfectly baked cake, laced with ornaments, rich and full on the inside, creamy and tasty on the outside but with no topping. Something would be just missing. In fact, the very name of the concert was inspired by the blazing chart rider tune of the same name done by Damian x2018;Junior Gongx2019; Marley and produced by Stephen Marley. The two have been on a mind blowing wave of success that has been consistent over the years. Damian with his Grammy Award winning album Welcome To Jamrock, has jumped over barriers and enjoyed enviable sales and celebrated air and video play. He has backed up the solid album with some intense and memorable stage shows, both here and overseas. Stephen has proven repeatedly that hex2019;s a credible and competent stage performer, but still with flashes of much more to come. Stephen, the production genius behind the Welcome To Jamrock project, eventually launched his debut solo album earlier this year. The reviews for that effort have been congratulatory and celebratory, with radio and video play for the singles being non-stop. It seems that just like a tailor, Stephen knows how to sew the threads of a successful album, and of a successful career as a songwriter, producer, and performer. The tracks on Stephenx2019;s album span various themes and address various issues facing several societies. Mind Control, and Catch Dem are two which easily jump to mind. At last yearx2019;s staging of Appleton Jamaica Rum Welcome To Jamrock concert, both Stephen and the Junior Gong gave blistering performances which are still today a topic of discussion. Together, they brought the house down with a combination of hits that spewed forth like bullets from a high caliber gun. In true dancehall reggae style, they exchanged lyrics and hit the welcoming audience with tune after tune. As Grammy award winners, they performed the role, so anticipation is running high for this yearx2019;s action. Presented in part by Kingston Beer, Appleton Jamaica Rum Welcome to Jamrock is sponsored by RJR Communications Group (TVJ, RJR 94 FM. Hitz FM and FAME FM), The Gleaner Company, Wisynco (Ocean Spray, Coca-Cola, Monster and Wata), Air Jamaica, Hilton Kingston and Ticket Animal. The concert returns to the Constant Spring Football Field on Friday, December 21. back to top <#top> It¹s all coming back Stars will light up the east this Christmas ³Oh Lord, It¹s all coming back, it Œs all coming back. The way we use the vibes, oh brothers and sisters inna dancehall style. What a sweet sensation- Rastaman vibration, take a hold of Reggae sensation. ³- Morgan Heritage. In the words of Morgan Heritage, Œit¹s all coming back¹- the Red Label Wine East Fest returns, revived. For another year the event is hosted with J. Wray and Nephew under their brand, Red Label Wine in St. Thomas at the Good Year Oval on Saturday December 29. For five successive years Morgan Heritage rooted their event through embodying principles of Rastafari even as equally mindful of family values. Having built a noteworthy unit with J. Wray and Nephew, the Morgan¹s continue optimistic of bringing back the family oriented atmosphere; likewise to create an incident-free environment. In light of the preceding Red Label Wine East Fest in 2005, which ended in turmoil after a Œbottle battle¹, Rhythm Guitarist of Morgan Heritage, ³Lukes² Morgan shares, ³we would like to feel that our plans this year will allow for a peaceful progression of the show.² Over the years the show has been reputed Œbest¹ by all generations of music enthusiasts; this year more exceedingly expected, considering its one year lapse in 2006. With regards to performances, both old and new will Œlight up¹ the stage. The line-up includes the energetic entertainers Capleton and Elephant Man who made musical memoirs at previous shows. While TOK, Busy Signal, Alaine, Kris Kelli, Christopher Martin, Munga Honorable, Tarrus Riley, Pressure and DeMarco, are all newcomers to the East Fest stage. ³This year has been a good year for all of these artistes,² states ³Lukes² Morgan. The charts have been topped by conscious music from these artistes, thus they comprise the line-up. In addition veteran Reggae rockers, Coco Tea and Tinga Stewart will muster at the microphones alongside many other influential musicians. What is more, the family has attained sheer satisfaction in simply delivering their conscious lyrical credos hence Red Label Wine East Fest would not be complete without performances by the Morgan¹s where at the centre of attention is Laza Morgan. It is hoped that the Good Year Oval will experience a sunshine-filled day so that patrons may enjoy themselves to the fullest at this year¹s Red Label Wine East Fest. She is Guyanese, young and enthusiastic and is very passionate about her work as a songwriter and singer. Music, for her, has always been her dream. She recorded a song and her friends were impressed by the final product. And now that she has released several singles, she is being embraced and encouraged on by the response of listeners. Marshall gets inspiration from what she believes people will relate to whether it be from her own personal experience or someone else¹s. ³Sometimes a song comes naturally and you have to make sure you write it down² commented the amiable Marshall. She recorded her first song for Œfun¹ and it was ³definitely different² for the young singer. was the first time I recorded a song by myself and it was a lot of work for one song. But the video shoot, I never thought I¹d get to do one. It¹s an experience I¹ll never forget.² Although she¹s young in the business she has had to be accepting and dealing with the challenges that come along with fame. ³Not everyone tells you positive stuff and you would think that your fellow Guyanese would be supportive. It hurts, but you have to stay focus on what you really want to do and just get it done.² She plans to make her mark with not one, but two singles to be releases simultaneously. Famed international reggae producer Clive Hunt and his team of talented musicians unveiled Free (an up-tempo and catchy track) and Ice-cream Boy (a fresh taste on a classic). Timeka secured writing credits on both tracks. Next, the songstress travels back to Jamaica to record with more local producers, taking another step towards achieving her goal of becoming better known in the Caribbean. In the near future, she hopes to be signed with an established label as an international artiste doing big things. Her advice to other young girls is to ³make sure your head¹s on as there are a lot of distractions out there. Even when you get negative feedback about your music, stay focused.² back to top <#top> Brokencurve.com the platform for Caribbean and urban culture Two young, Black, Georgia Tech trained engineers have placed Atlanta at the intersection of technology and global urban culture when they had the Friday, November 23 soft launch of BrokenCurve.com, an IPTV Network targeting, what they refer to as, Progressive Urban Culture. Not coincidentally, this date, the day after Thanksgiving has always been known as Black Friday. The new network will target multicultural urban audiences utilizing a mix of repurposed and original programming supplied by content providers from various urban centers around the world. IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) is generally regarded as the concept of delivering TV or TV-like programming via the Internet to a computer, kiosk, mobile device or traditional television set. BrokenCurve Media Group, the parent company, has plans to leverage all of these distribution methods with the site as just the first foray into the market. BrokenCurve.com has been in BETA testing for the last three months and during this interim phase it has broadcast Caribbean content exclusively. The primary reason for this is that the two creators of BrokenCurve are both of Caribbean-American parentage, so they were able to readily access content relevant to that market. Even with such a narrow initial target base for the test, however, the site has been able to achieve a remarkable 2 million plus page views per month. Part of the reason for the rapid growth of BrokenCurve is that the group includes digital content syndication as a part of its business model. A growing number of websites across the world with audiences for Caribbean content, especially in Western Europe, Africa and Asia utilize BrokenCurve as a provider of it and the BrokenCurve platform tracks and tabulates the views on these disparate sites as well. In addition to being a place for entertainment, news and cultural reports, BrokenCurve also has plans for its 2.0 version, slated for a spring '08 launch, to contain an innovative and highly interactive social networking component. "It will definitely be sticky," reveals Reid. Sticky, in the lingua of the Internet world means highly engaging and likely to keep users stuck to the site for extended periods. back to top <#top> Kingston's Rootz Underground prepares for Reggae Anarchy It's typically a good sign when members of a band are packing up their things and moving. Their former neighbours probably aren't too mad about it, and the band is probably in the midst of success and on its way into bigger and better surroundings. For the members of Kingston-based reggae band Rootz Underground, it seems that the opposite is true. Success is certainly on the horizon for the increasingly popular band, but as a result, some of the guys in the group are actually downgrading into smaller digs. As guitarist Jeffrey Moss-Solomon puts it, "We're scaling down so that we can tour harder. We're conquering the world next year, so home doesn't need to be as big as it used to be anymore." That's the right attitude, and we can only hope his prophecy will come true. The group makes highly addictive music in the vein of traditional roots rock reggae but with an updated, modern approach. With rebellious lyrics and bass lines that won't quit, if you can envision Marcus Garvey, Paul Bogle, Che Guevara, Nelson Mandela, Frantz Fanon, and Geronimo wailing away in a reggae band, then you're ready to hear Rootz Underground. And if you don't know who any of those people are, then you need to hear Rootz Underground. Even though it was moving day, Moss-Solomon checked in with New Times to let us know what's on the band's horizon. New Times: So you guys are finally branching out of Jamaica and playing more shows in the U.S.? Moss-Solomon: We just got our work permits straight finally. We couldn't really play until then. New Times: Was that difficult? Moss-Solomon: It's difficult as a whole to get visas since 9/11. Lots of groups have new albums out and can't tour the States for various reasons. We're lucky that we got in. But if they listen to the music, they might take the visas back ( laughs). New Times: Your music has plenty of Jamaican flair, but there are other sounds thrown in the mix as well. What sets you apart from other reggae bands? Moss-Solomon: We try to stay true to the roots music: Bob Marley, Burning Spear, Peter Tosh. That's the music we grew up with, but we also love rock, folk, dub, electronica, so we have all these influences as well. It's the 2000 version of roots rock reggae. It's one world we deal with so we keep things moving forward. New Times: What can folks who have never seen you guys live expect? Moss-Solomon: People can expect a high-energy performance. Our music is dancing music. So come to dance, but it's also conscious, so you have to have an open mind. We're gonna come out hard hitting, so be ready for the love fire. Source: New Times back to top <#top> Ky-Mani Marley Marches in the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart In the week Ky- Mani Marley was confirmed to return as the special guest on the 2008 leg of the hugely successful Van Halen Reunion tour with David Lee Roth; Marley's anthemic song The March broke into the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Sales Charts - debuting at an astounding #19. The March the second single off his album Radio, outperformed songs by 50 Cent, Beyonce and Jay-Z to name a few. The March is currently performed by Ky-Mani at every Van Halen show to great response. The song puts his message out to the world and continues on 30 years later from his father's Exodus in a still troubled world. USA Today, reporting from the opening show on the tour reports that Marley "incurred favor with the crowd by opening his half hour set with Roots, Rock, Reggae and finishing with 'No Woman, No Cry,' two songs from his late father Bob Marley's repertoire. However, he flashed his own charismatic side by enthralling the crowd with The March, a hip-hop/reggae hybrid song from his new album, Radio, that juxtaposed the war in Iraq with street violence." The March is being released to mainstream radio in early 2008 as well as a video release with a powerful message. Ky-Mani's album Radio is currently on a number of radio and Billboard music charts including the mainstream Rhythmic Radio chart at Mediabase where it entered the top 200 this week. back to top <#top> Transdub Massiv: Beyond Negril to Kingston City Transdub Massiv in association with Mystic Urchin Productions, unveiled their debut album, Negril to Kingston City in Europe 2005. Having surfaced from the underground¹, the group is progressively taking steps to higher levels- anticipating the 2008 re-release of the album worldwide. It has received immense attention thus far, considering its initial release in France where in a matter of two weeks, 1000 copies had been sold; furthermore the group was welcomed with open ears during their European tour and various performances within the country. For the album, DJ fflood and MT floyd of Transdub Massiv (originating from the United States of America) collaborated with, promising Jamaican entertainers such as Farenheit, Jovi Rockwell, Tami Chynn, Rootz Underground and Miss Jamaica Universe 2004, Christine Straw. They also incorporated the styling of dancehall diva Cecile and the sizzling spirit, Sizzla among other powerful performers. Joe Tomino, the dynamic drummer of Dub Trio and Meshell Ndegeocello, sensual bass player also add to the melodic verve behind the music. The album was wholly influenced by Jamaican culture- conceptualised on journey, movement and destination-a liaison shaped from travelling through Negril and settling down in a picturesque environment while incorporating the modes and moods of musical legends such as Lee Scratch Perry, Robert Nesta Marley and King Tubby. As the group writes ŒDub is the foundation¹, the soulful expressions of dub and roots are supported by a mixture of old and contemporary jazz, reverberating reggae riffs dosed with sundry electronic chords. On account of the album being poles apart from most, Executive Producer, Steve Wilson states Œit appeals to a niche market but those who truly appreciate music will support it, no matter what genre they lean to.² Each track creates a singular vibe, whether on the move or on the rebound. While the title single, Negril to Kingston to City stimulates a trance during Jovi Rockwell¹s and Farenheit¹ s singing surrenders of every verse, Tami Chynn and Rootz Underground take over Mi Nuh Waa Dat; taking a more upbeat venture within the music. Ce¹cile, who may be heard dubbing consistently over the first three tracks, pilots the album- somewhat making introductions during realistic interludes (a stimulus for creating relationships with a listener). The team has been concentrating on making another album at present (featuring additional artistes); this sound will transverse between cumina and hip hop. Mystic Urchin and Transdub Massiv have also expressed their efforts to perform at one of Kingston, Jamaica¹s hot spots, the Village Cafe in January. The concert dubbed 'Beres Hammond- A Moment In Time' will close another chapter in Beres' continuing odyssey of masterful performances. Amassing over 2000 performances in his 30-year career, Beres Hammond has honed his skills and has captured the heart of audiences the world over. "Hammond's musical might and sexual magnetism in his repertoire of music were clearly evident on familiar hits like Come Back Home, Double Trouble and Putting Up A Resistance. Fans are then taken on a stroll down memory lane with One Step Ahead. This mid-1970s classic was Hammonds' very first hit song and catapulted him into the consciousness of the Jamaican psyche." - Jamaica Star, review of Beres' 2002 performance in Madison Square Gardens, New York. Beres' charisma and charm flow from the stage to audiences, allowing him to connect with his fans on a magical level. With an immense talent for formulating heart-rending lyrics, Beres is also blessed with a voice that is one in a million. Since the 1970's, the crooner has been pleasing both local and international fans with ballads steeped in classic R&B melodies blended with foundation reggae nuances. "Dissect Hammond's considerable appeal, and this is what you'll find: a honeyed baritone that's sometimes smooth, sometimes gravelly and always effortlessly sensual. Songs with indelible melodies and captivating stories of romance." - Washington Post, 2004 Over the decades Jamaicans have been exposed to stage shows with various headliners and a multitude of artistes, however Beres will set a trend and present to Jamaica a Concert. The contemporary definition of the word Concert is an extended public performance by an individual artiste, instrumentalist, or the like. At 'Beres Hammond - A Moment In Time' guests will be immersed in a cacophony of melodies, quality instrumentals, and a first class musical performance by the man himself: Beres Hammond. On Sunday December 30 the assemblage will be a part of a history making musical journey when Beres Hammond performs live in Concert at the National Indoor Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica to 6000 of his most loyal fans. back to top <#top> Christ in art & jazz show: the night music won It was the only secular number (at least by this writer's reckoning) and in all likelihood unrecognisable - even in its original form - to 90% of the audience that had gathered at the Swallowfield Chapel in Kingston on Friday night. But in the hands of bassist Rohan Reid and drummer Desi Jones, Miles Davis' So What took on an added dimension. Their sustained improvisational prowess -delivering the song in a kind of avant-garde style with crescendos on both instruments, stamped the jazz segment of the Christ in Art and Jazz show as an essential addition to the still woeful calendar of live improvised music. Not that the programme was secular in nature. There was plenty of spiritually inspired playing and singing to go around, as indeed one would expect given that the show was organised by keyboardist extraordinaire Dennis Rushton and featured some of the country's best Christian musicians, which is to say - without any undue flattery - Jamaica's best musicians. Joining them as he did on the previous occasion was American reed man and ethnomusicologist Melvin Butler. The rest of the 'house band' was Othneil Lewis on keyboard (Rushton played electric piano); Michael Kennedy on bass; Fitzroy Bennett on guitar and Johnny Clarke on drums. Were one to go into individual musical selections, the available space would soon be exhausted, but notable among the band's selections were a 5/ 4 rendering of Amazing Grace (essentially the tune of Dave Brubeck's late-'50s classic, Take Five) and a reading of Jehovah Jireh that was given a spike of rock courtesy of an inspired performance on guitar from Danny Browne. Butler, for his part, was the perfect combination of abandon and meticulous cool. Though he missed the odd cue here and there, his solos were gems of economy and wit and, when prodded by the other guests, notably Browne, to engage in some good old-fashioned 'cutting' (matching note runs), he obliged more than good-naturedly, even taking the lead on occasion. Every musician was in top form. Bennett made his instrument, sigh, wail and moan in a manner that have raised hackles among the ultra-conservative or, in another setting, squeals of delight. Clarke ranged all over the drum kit, also using his bass pedal to good effect. Kennedy produced rumbling lines with a discernible nonchalance, and Rushton, doubling at times as emcee, produced the usual dazzlingly dramatic runs on the piano. The singers were by no means outdone, but Samantha Gooden was, on the night, the indisputable winner. From her first breathy intonations of Michael W Smith's Breathe to her masterly scatting and stylings alongside Bennett, she was in total control (or total submission, to be precise) destroying the vestigal myth that jazz and worship are mutually exclusive. Olivia 'Babsy' Grange, who said that her Ministry will be assisting the Reggae Film Festival to showcase some of the many documentaries, feature films and music videos being made that incorporate or highlight Jamaica's unique reggae music. The Film Festival will be a prelude to the Reggae Academy Awards being presented at that time by Recording Industry Association of Jamaica (RIAJam) as well as a sidebar of the Global Reggae 2008 conference hosted by the UWI Institute of Caribbean Studies. The REGGAE FILM FESTIVAL is organized by film maker and film festival organizer Barbara Blake Hannah in collaboration with ReggaeFilms.co, a UK-based online community and marketplace for films, books and music highlighting Jamaica's reggae culture. Minister Grange says the REGGAE FILM FESTIVAL will give Jamaicans the opportunity to view some of the best of the hundreds of films made about and because of the world famous music of Jamaica, that not only reflect the wide interest in Jamaican music, but also bring tourists on vacation and income to members of the entertainment fraternity, as well as the nation. "Most of the films about Jamaica are made by reggae lovers in countries outside Jamaica and we here at home have never seen them. There are also some Jamaican films that equally have never had local TV or cinema exposure. The REGGAE FILM FESTIVAL will showcase the best of these. There is certainly enough material of interest continually being produced to make this an annual event," said Minister Grange. Co-ordinators Barbara Blake Hannah and Peter Gittins of Reggae Films UK, say the Reggae Film Festival will be a Red Carpet event of films in the categories of Reggae Rock-umentary, Roots Rock - Reggae, and Give Thanks & Praise. Films include "ROOTS TIME" an amusing feature film by Peruvian film maker Silvestre Jacobi that follows two Rastas who travel around Jamaica selling records. A special Charity Premiere of the feature documentary "THE AFRICAN SAFARI" with Dub poet Benjamin Zephiniah that examines the social, economic and political progress of the African people, will be hosted by Mrs. Lorna Golding, wife of the Prime Minister, and her son Stephen to raise funds for the UK-African charity S.E.E.D. On the final night Awards will be presented to the Best Feature, Best Documentary and Best Music Video. Among the screenings will be a film archive segment featuring the documentary "Red X: Stepping Razor" by Wayne Jobson and the feature film "Countryman" by Dickie Jobson, both of whom will be special guests of the Reggae Film Festival. An announcement will be made nearer the event date of a major star guest from the US film industry. The music video entries include the sensational claymation videos by "Duppy Arts'' featuring animated figures of stars such as Yellow Man, Twins of Twins, Ninja Man, Bounti Killa and Capelton performing their greatest hits. The Reggae Film Festival is intended to be the foundation of a Jamaica Film Academy that will archive films for research, screening and education. Entries are invited of films of any length by professionals as well as amateurs. All submissions must be on DVD and there is no entry fee. back to top <#top> Gyptian shoots video for new single The video is in the can for reggae artist Gyptian, who just wrapped up the shoot for his latest single, I Can Feel Your Pain. The Portmore, Jamaica native blasted onto the reggae scene two years ago, beating out Damian Marley's Welcome to Jamrock for song of the year in Jamaica, with his culture chant Serious Times. Now the singer, who just celebrated his 24th birthday, is back with the poignant I Can Feel Your Pain, recorded on the Cloud 9 Riddim from New York-based producers Imran " Fire Peter" Passard, Jon "FX" Crawford and Tamieko Carghill. The video was shot on location in New York City on December 8th and 9th, while Gyptian was in town for the Cultural Explosion concert that also featured Sizzla, Chuck Fender, Ras Shiloh and Courtney Melody. Gyptian's performance will be profiled in the video, set for release next week. The video was produced and directed by Rhona Fox. I Can Feel Your Pain will be featured on Gyptian's sophomore album on the VP Records label, due to hit store shelves in 2008. Livvi Franc, the 19-year old singer/songwriter who is perhaps best known (in Barbados) as the featured voice on J-Co's hit track Pon Fire, is now preparing to launch an international singing and songwriting career. The deal, which is the first label direct deal signed by a Barbadian artist in recent times, is the culmination of 3 years of artist development, which all took place in Barbados. The Livvi/Jive deal was officially inked on October 25, 2007 in New York, after months of negotiations with Jive. The deal effectively makes Livvi labelmates with the likes of Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Pink, Chris Brown and Usher. The deal provides Livvi with access not only to a number of globally recognised artistes for potential collabs, but also further access to a slew of international industry insiders. Livvi's Œworked with' list is an impressive one, despite her still being in the embryonic stage of development of her career. In an exclusive interview with CiRCUIT magazine, her manager of three years, Kerrie Thomas-Armstrong, revealed that to date, Livvi has worked with Toby Gad who co-wrote Big Girls Don't Cry for Fergie, and with songwriter Angela Hunte who was one of the songwriters behind Showstoppers, the first Danity Kane single. She has also worked with SRP's Evan Rogers and Carl Sturken, who are credited with discovering Bajan superstar Rihanna. In a statement released by SRP to CiRCUIT magazine, Rogers stated: "Livvi is a brilliant writer with an amazing voice - totally unique and distinctive. Her appeal will cross many boundaries. She also has all the star quality you could ask for - the whole package, which is rare. We (SRP) are excited to be part of the project!" Armstrong also revealed that access to international industry insiders does not necessarily imply that Livvi's future project will exclude Barbadian industry professionals. It was, after all, the strength of her local management and local production team which heavily influenced Jive's interest in the Livvi project. Armstrong will continue to manage Livvi in a co-management deal with Armstrong's longtime friend, Allison Hunte, who is also Kevin Lyttle's manager and a Barbadian. The co-management deal allows Livvi to continue her work with Armstrong, who has guided the singer/songwriter's budding career, while being further supported by a management link already familiar with the complexities of managing a Caribbean artist in a global music environment. Livvi's other local ties include songwriting/production collaborations with Tony ŒRebel' Bailey, Chris Allman, De Red Boyz and Eyan. She is likely to continue working with other Barbadians within the coming months. The mystique roots and culture sound of I-Wayne has been intriguing the general populus since his firely single "Can't Satifsy Her (2005)," took over the mainstream airwaves. Now he returns with his eagerly awaited release Book Of Life. I-Wayne polishes his enchanting smooth sound over airy instrumentals with simplistic yet profound lyrics that remind listeners of an essential truth-that life is a gift for which we can be grateful. The title track, which is the CD's first single, provides an overview of the set, expressing everything I Wayne has learned in his 28 years of life and his desire to share his experience-a glowing example of the personal rendered universal. He also covers domestic violence in Jealousy and Abuse (featuring the great Lady G); male and female intimacy in Need Her in I Arms; and worldwide divisions and anarchy in Politics and Religion. Following his philosophy throughout The Book of Life, I- Wayne advises to "just appreciate life as it is and praise it." "We need to care for life more. We can't have too much love for material because then we disregard life. I'm not here to force anyone but to share some of life's knowledge--just being 'naturous'." Foreva is the follow up to 2003's smash success No Holding Back (Atlantic Records) which garnered worldwide acclaim with a peak position at #29 on the Billboard Top 200, a Grammy nomination for Best Reggae Album, and the now famous solo television performance splitting the bill with Sean Paul on 'Saturday Night Live'. Wayne Wonder¹s one time collaborator Buju Banton has rereleased his groundbreaking album Inna Heights. It is more akin to a movement to educate the African Diaspora about their past and prepare them for the future. Africa Unite, which has been previously held in Ethiopia in 2005 and Ghana in 2006, has always been accompanied by many events that help to celebrate Bob Marley, the man and his message. One of the more important events is the youth symposium hosted by the Bob and Rita Marley Foundations, which engages youth in each respective country about different issues such as: the multidimensional forms of exploitation, oppression which marginalise African youth and the Pan-African Revolution. These symposiums are socially as important as the concerts as the message which permeates through Bob Marley¹s music is much more powerful once accompanied with informed dialogue. Reggae music matriarch Rita Marley gave a clue in recent interview about the possible direction next year¹s symposium in Jamaica. ³We are focusing on Bob Marley¹s predictions what is happening in world today that we can identify with his music. Every line that he sings you see it happening right before your eyes. He sang much more about reality than about anything political.² More specifically the symposium in Jamaica from February 4 to February 6, 2008 will bring together youth from all over the world. This Symposium will be devoted to presentations and arguments which discuss the urgent call for African Unification. All deliberations will take place in Liberty Hall, (the living reminder of the Black philosopher Marcus Garvey) and Nine Miles, (the birthplace of Bob Marley). Rita also spoke about the overall importance of empowering African people and informing them about issues that affect the Diaspora. ³It¹s not politics but it is important we do something like that. To take around the world, we are not looking for votes we are looking for souls.² back to top <#top> Tour Calendar Artiste Date Location Nickesha Barnes Thurs. MR EASY NEWS (Kingston, Jamaica) MR EASY is gearing up for 2008! With a new photoshoot recently done with Greg Grindley while visiting New York, Mr Easy is gearing up for a fresh new look and the outcome of his recording efforts with new songs done with producers like; John John, Mario Lawrence, Sean Nizzle and Stephen McGregor and more. SWEET JAMAICA, produced by Sean Nizzle is a melodic slow paced, touching and really inspirational song has the potential to be the next Œanthem¹ for Jamaica. Certainly it¹s positive description of the wonders that Jamaica has to offer; the simplistic beautiful and peaceful life that is hopefully on it¹s return certainly captures what Jamaican¹s have always loved about the island, as well as the factors that visitors for generations have sought out the island as a vacation destination spot. A video for this song is in the planning and will be shot and aired in Jamaica by the beginning of 2008. The song itself is being received well by a variety of DJs worldwide. Some of the comments include; ³I really like Mr. Easy¹s ³Sweet Jamaica². I¹m adding it into rotation.² Lisa Barnes, Mystik 1400, Miami FL ³Crazy tune, we play it on the radio every Saturday!² DJ Dynamic, Rochester NY ³It¹s gonna be another favorite! So far, the Midwest loves it.² - Fatta Ranks, Chicago, IL ³Yo this tune is big! Already in my rotation of tunes whenever I play!² Baptist of Fire Heart Sound, Honolulu, HI ³I love the song by Mr Easy, ³Sweet Jamaica². Keep dem coming.² DJ Cashback, Anguilla ³Di track is hott! Trust me, dat tune is gonna run tings for awhile reality speaking, everyday life right now.² DJ Gargubell of Untouchable Sound International, CT ³.different style outside the gangsta thing.² Fatboy of Natural Vibes Sound, Brooklyn, NY ³The song ³Sweet Jamaica² SELL OFF!!! It¹s nice and mellow. I¹ve heard it plenty on Irie FM². DJ Hod-I, KXUA Arizona ³Been playing ³Sweet Jamiaca² on my show ŒAllspice Reggae radio¹ for a few weeks. Nice vibes. Takes me on a trip down a yard.² DJ Common Sensi, Big Up Radio ³It¹s a nice ballad type track from Mr. Easy, all about reality and life in Jamaica. This shows how versatile Mr. Easy is. I would chart this in the UK Reggae Charts at number 2.² Warren Mittoo from Hussla Ghetto Hart Sound, Manchester England ³The song is tight, very melodic and smooth. Nice one.² Bum Dem Crew, Zambia, Africa ³.really like this style from Mr. Easy. It goes down much better with our listeners than the usual ³whije under you² etc. etc. that a lot of the artists come up with. Keep this style of music flowing!² Miss Pat, Hits 106FM, Ireland Mr Easy¹s song ³HAVE YOU EVER² from Stephen McGregor¹s current Beehive Riddim is also equally powerful. Recorded and presently released in Jamaica for the juggling efforts, this song has a broader appeal and DJs are starting to respond. Other new songs by Mr. Easy include "Extra Ride" on the Revenge Riddim from producer Mario C and ³Time Again² on the Peppagrain Riddim by Mario Lawrence¹s Open Ear Music.
