I would like to remind you to take part in the current RAW Board election, and send in your ballot as soon as possible. Although most positions are uncontested, there is one seat that IS being contested by two qualified candidates, and it is important that we get as many responses from RAW members as possible. Ballots must be received by Jan 14, 2008, and mail to Guam will take 7-10 days, possibly longer during the busy holiday season. Why not take a moment now, mark your ballot, and send it in? If you did not receive a ballot, it is most likely due to my not having an updated address for you in the database. It is probably too late for me to snail mail you a new election ballot and have enough time to vote and return it by Jan 14th, but I can email you the ballot, which you can print out, then vote and snail mail it back. Give thanks to all those who have already sent in their votes. On this project he invites us to take a look into his private thoughts and see what's going on inside of the mind of a born again sanctified lyricist. Regarding this album, Ordinary, a.k.a Mr. Amen states that he is; "Bent on protecting and warning others through my lyrics and the most intimate and personal details of my life--the good, the bad and the ugly, and how God brought me out." Sonically this album is straight up dancehall with touches of raggamuffin hip-hop and culture in the vein of Baby Cham, Assassin or the Vybz Kartel. The majority of the tracks were produced by Dale "Dr. Dizzle" Virgo, with contributions by various other producers. There are also a few vocal collaborations on "The Verbal Journal" from artists like Na Tural, Dane Jahrus, Debbi Verbs, Jay D and the boisterous DJ Nicholas! Lyrically this CD is the heart cry of a Christian soldier fighting on the frontline. Whether he is singing about God's excellence (Excellent), Abstinence (Abstinence) or spiritual warfare (Soldier), every verse is a paragraph and every song is a page, so listen to the words clearly and get ready to delve into his personal journal--The Verbal Journal. AUGUST TOWN DUANE STEPHENSON VP Leading West African reggae star Tiken Jah Fakoly has been banned from playing reggae in Senegal, following a Presidential directive, because following a concert show held in the Senegalese Capital Dakar, where he openly composed a lyric calling for president Wade's resignation. The popular Musician called on President Wade to step down from power, as he criticizes the rising corruption and maladministration in Senegal. He was also declared persona non grata by the Wade Government, which is unwelcome person. Fakoly is an Ivorian National by birth and was accused of meddling into Senegal's domestic politics by openly calling for its President to step down from power. Fakoly was granted political asylum in Mali , following the Ivorian war. Senegal has been his favorite destination, as he often frequents the West African country. Senegal which was cherished for its democratic values has joined undemocratic nations such as the Gambia, in curtailing free speech and dissent. Wades grand daughter set herself on fire in Italy, while there on a visit. She is still in hospital. The Government has deported the reggae star but he has not committed any crime. Livvi Franc is the next Barbadian to sign a major label deal and her signing is with Jive Records. She is perhaps best known, at least in Barbados, as the featured voice on J-Co's hit track Pon Fire, but her visibility is little everywhere. Her biggest presence is on the net thru her myspace page under livvifranc. Free, Bliss, Shiver and Tap Tap, all produced by Barbados-born producers Classic Soul Productions, have struck a chord with Livvi's growing online fan base and are sure to shine a spotlight on Classic Soul as a production unit. Her sound is more like a Sheryl Crow. So will she do Caribbean music? Anyway Shes been on a rigorous development program with her team to prepare for these moments over the last 3 years. So I see big things for her & her sound. Carnival is here for several islands, rumor has it that the Dominica Festival Commission is broke, it owes about $3 million. So will 2008 Real Mas, take place and make Dominica carnival a reality. In addition to all the problems, the management of the festival commission are in limbo because the government is presently in the process of switching responsibility for Carnival to the Ministry of Community Development and Culture, which is now headed up by Loreen Bannis-Reborts. But biggest problem facing the carnival organizes has been the lack of funds to execute the grand carnival celebration which they've been advertising for the Reunion year. Beside the regular Queen Show and street parades, the DFC plans for the Real Mas 2008 includes a Bouyon Festival, Soca Monarch Competition, Carnival Warm-Ups, and an International Artists Night featuring Beres Harmond and Carimi. The estimated total budget for the festival is EC$ 1,201,379. So what will happen when everyone comes for Carnival? In our new releases this week first from MEGAWAVE Records it's Lee 'Scratch' Perry's 'The End of an American Dream' is his Grammy nominated cd for reggae album, but this is not a reggae album. This is more of a trans ambient dub collective that is music that has come from reggae. So reggae fans will be disappointed, music lovers, all I can say is it's a trip. Mikey Bassie has a new album courtesy of Hook Shop called 'Say Something.' A very polished reggae/pop album that has something for everyone, let's call it a 'Monster Ride.' VP Records releases 3 riddims in one from one of the hottest modern dancehall producers today, 18 year old Stephen McGregor with Shadowz. If you are looking for todays hottest dancehall in the 'Shadowz' is a good place to listen. Each week we ask a trivia question first last week we asked, The Gladiators signed with which major label? Virgin This week we ask, so why were the Gladiators dropped from Virgin? In case you don't know. we will have all that & more on next weeks edition...
