New CD: KERRON ENNIS,"GOD IS BY OUR SIDE" ARTIST: Kerron EnnisALBUM: God is by Our SideGenre: Roots / Caribbean Praise / Dancehall / Ragga Hip HopLabel: MarJohn MuzikPRICE: $15.99 Our Price Only $13.97ALBUM DESCRIPTION: Born, August 22, 1982, in St. Andrew Jamaica, Kerron Ennis is the fifth child of Lascelles and Derisa Ennis and grew up in the Patrick City community where her artistic ability has captured the hearts of many. She has been the choir director for the youth and combined choirs of the Boulevard Church of the Nazarene and has received the commission from the Lord to sing and to make His praise glorious. Her dedication for the Lord is indelibly etched into her motto of Acts 20:24, "but none of these things moved me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God." In 2003, Kerron entered the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission's (JCDC) gos pel festival with the song "No Wonder," written by Clifton and Margaret Clarke. After placing third in the festival, Ennis has gone on to share the stage with many local and international artists including Michael W. Smith, Marvia Providence, Toby Mac, and Huntley Brown among others. On the local scene, she has performed alongside artists such as Katalys Crew, DJ Nicholas, Lt. Stitchie, Carlene Davis, Judy Mowatt, Papa San, and Chevelle Franklyn. She has also performed at the Spring Break gospel festival "Fun in the Sun", an annual event sponsored by Glory Music, where both international and local artists meet on the same stage. Though all sixteen tracks on her debut album are strong and diverse, a few key songs stand out. Kerron's rendition of " Daddy Oh," feat. DJ Nicholas has become a huge hit in Jamaica and the Caribbean, with the song sitting at number one for three weeks straight in Jamaica and St. Lucia. Also, a guest appearance by Stitchie on "God We Need," has helped the song receive airplay throughout the international Caribbean community on Love FM, Irie FM, RJR, and Roots FM, as well as on stations in New York, New Jersey, Boston, Canada, and Europe. Other songs such as the rootsy "Grace," and the dancehall-infused "His Love," showcase Ennis' vocal and writing skills. Kerron Ennis has become one of Jamaica's brightest new Gospel artists, be sure to grab a copy of this exciting new album today! SHOP NOW --> http://www.gospelreggae.com 3>. Linford Manning along with another brother, Carlton Manning was a member of the famed 601s group, Carlton and the Shoes. The next year the trinity of harmonic voices drafted the blueprint of a song, 3Satta Massagana2 that would launch them into the cannon of Reggae music greats. 3Satta Massagana2 became one of reggae1s most popular songs; a Rastafarian hymn based on the Ethiopian Amharic language. This hymn was released on the most famous Jamaican label of them all, Coxsone Dodd1s Studio One. Satta1s spiritual and universal message became an anthem that was heard on the radios, in the dancehalls and in the churches of Jamaica. It was also covered by many other International artists1 including Third World, which raised the status of their work to Legendary Reggae. A string of hits followed including 3DECLARATION OF RIGHTS2, 3YIMMASGAN2 and 3LET MY DAYS BE LONG2. Early albums were a collection of singles recorded throughout the 19701s on their own label, Clinch, and include 3FORWARD ON TO ZION2 (1976) and 3ARISE2 (1978). Heartbeat Records released 3SATTA MASSAGANA2, a collection of their greatest early hits, in 1993, and five years later, 3DECLARATION OF DUB2 the follow up Dub Reggae version of their Satta Massagana album The group split in 1980, and was inactive for most of the decade. In 1989, Donald, Bernard and Linford joined together again to record over the next three years. These sessions resulted as the originally released album, 3$19.95 + TAX2 in 1995 with a very limited number of CD1s printed. Artists Only! Records realized the importance of this album and in 1998 re-titled and re-released this album as 3REUNION2. 3REUNION2 now stands strong as one of The Abyssinians greatest albums. The The Abyssinians have been touring since early 1997, including dates at Reggae on the River, Sierra Nevada World Music Festival and The Bob Marley Day Festival in California 1998. The Abyssinians were also nominated for a 1999 Tamika Award with the ceremonies in New York City. The 2001 Spring tour included a spellbinding performance with multiple encores at The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. In 2005 Bernard Collins rejoined Donald Manning, and 3Star 3 David Morrison to continue to tour internationally. The backing band occasionally includes up to five of Donald Manning1s sons who are in high demand as studio and touring musicians in their own right. The Origins of the Skatalites The Skatalites brought together the top musicians and styles of the time‹fusing boogie-woogie blues, R&B, jazz, mento, calypso, and African rhythms‹to create the first truly Jamaican music: ska. Throughout the mid-20th century, experience in big bands solidified the prowess of most Jamaican musicians; yet, the genesis for many of the great Skatalites goes back to a boys1 school established for the wayward. The Alpha Boys School, run by the Sisters of Mercy and led (for most of last century) by Sister Ignatius, educated many of the future Skatalites. Founded in 1880 and having its own band since the 1890s, Alpha was essentially a military-style school that also developed top-notch musicians. Tommy McCook became a pupil there in 1938, playing his sax in the school1s best orchestra by 1942. Fellow Skatalites, including master penman and trombonist Don Drummond, Johnny Dizzy1 Moore, and Lester Sterling also attended Alpha, same way for Cedric Brooks, Vin Gordon, Rico Rodriquez, Ernest Ranglin, Eddie ŒTan Tan1 Thornton, Bobby Ellis, ŒHorsemouth1 Wallace and JoJo Bennett, all of whom have played with, or were members of The Skatalites. Jazz and ska enthusiasts alike will be drawn in by the hard-bop and improv sounds of the full of horns and rhythm. The Skatalites have provided dedicated ska fans with a standard to go by for more than fifty years‹it1s all about the rhythm. These musicians are a rarity; the best the land has to offer have played together for years, helping usher in generations of styles. Ska, rocksteady, rudeboy, reggae, rockers, dancehall, reggaeton are all children and grandchildren of The Skatalites1 sound. We invite ska bands to bop, rock and skank as the Skafathers tear it up at Harlows on March 22. Tickets to these two fabulous reggae shows are available at Harlows, The Beat, Dimples Records, Armadillos Records in Davis, Cherry Records in Auburn, and the Briar Patch in Grass Valley.
