Date: Mon, 5 Nov 2007 08:48:02 -0800 (GMT-08:00) From: Steffen Franz Date: Mon, 5 Nov 2007 08:48:02 -0800 (GMT-08:00) Independent Distribution Collective builds strategic partnership with Pyramind Institute for Advanced Digital Audio Training For Immediate Release: November 5th, 2007 San Francisco, CA Pyramind is pleased to announce a strategic partnership with nationwide music distributor, Independent Distribution Collective, www.independentdistro.com (IDC). As a part of this synergistic relationship, IDC has moved its offices into Pyramind¹s facility at 880 Folsom St. The move is part of a bigger partnership that will allow IDC to expand its current footprint and to further build community within an already productive and ever expansive environment. This relationship is designed to help foster IDC¹s growth by facilitating the launch of new products and services and expanding its focus in both Digital (IDCD) and Film (IDCF) distribution. New services being offered include ³InstantDistro² and ³Presto²: Both are services geared towards providing key assistance in the marketing, promotion and manufacturing of select independent label releases. Additional plans are underway to unveil a new website, which will allow IDC labels to upload all of their digital assets, and access each product¹s sales history. IDC¹s strategic partnership with Pyramind is part of a continuing and multi-faceted business relationship between IDC founder Steffen Franz and Pyramind¹s Director and President Greg Gordon. October 13th 2007 Pyramind launched a new imprint: Epiphyte Records (http://www.epiphyterecords.com) with its debut CD/DVD titled Test Press SF (now featured under ³New Releases² on Itunes electronic music section). Leveraging IDC¹s new services and resources, Steffen Franz will act as label manager for Epiphyte Records and will oversee the publicity and marketing of each release as well as physical distribution to stores across the USA. Additionally, IDC will release ten new products before the 2007 holiday season. Currently, IDC represents 196 titles, and will reach its goal of over 200 available titles by the end of this year. IDC¹s current retail solicitation reaches over 350 stores across the USA and features a diverse roster of great new artists and indie-labels. About IDC: Imagine if independent labels could harness the power of the major's distribution "Machine". Many of these independent labels which have already had limited success on their own, are banding together to create a stronger force as one cohesive collective. Each label already has standing in its own community, with a small sales force and a "Street Team". Each label already has artists and branding, websites and sales contacts. If these labels unite under one distribution banner, the power and market share would reflect a huge spike in each label's profit. This will allow each label to foster new and different products, and to underwrite the cost out of this newfound profit. With the addition of other independent labels, and a marketing plan that focuses on expanding territories at a slow but steady rate, as well as claiming and exploiting new undeveloped, underdeveloped, and non-traditional sales points, as well as using each label's local business office as a subsidiary, the concept of an Independent Distribution Collective (IDC) is born. About Pyramind: Located in San Francisco¹s South of Market area, Pyramind Institute for Advanced Digital Audio Training offers hands on training and production services in today's working studio environment. The company helps students realize their professional and creative goals by providing a proven curriculum combined with an intensive real-world learning environment. Pyramind¹s certificates include both Apple and Digidesign certified training included as a part of the Electronic Music Producer Certificate, Post Production Certificate, Digital Producer Certificate and the Music and Audio Production Weekend Certificate (MAP). Graduates leave the institute ready to play their part in the digital media revolution. For more information visit: www.pyramind.com About Epiphyte Records: Pyramind¹s new subsidiary company Epiphyte Records has launched its first release, as a dual CD/DVD both on-line with INgrooves as its digital distribution partner and physically with Independent Distribution Collective. The release consists of the 15 winners of the year-long 2006 "Test Press" events. Epiphyte Records springs from Pyramind. It draws its inspiration and talent from the school and the SF Bay Area community. It gives back with opportunities that make musicians successful and music that draws people in. It is designed to elevate local music and give music fans a taste of what they¹ve never heard, and what¹s to come. TO YOUR ARMS OF LOVE JAH CURE VP The first REGGAE ACADEMY AWARDS ceremony is set to unfold on Sunday February 24th at the National Indoor Sports Centre in Kingston Jamaica. The REGGAE ACADEMY is a project of the Recording Industry Association of Jamaica/RIAJam which is made up of just over thirty music companies doing business inside Jamaica and internationally. The objective is to celebrate and recognize creative excellence in a format that will allow for judging and voting by persons directly involved in performing, making and promoting Reggae around the world. The members of the REGGAE ACADEMY will decide on the recordings and artists to be considered for nomination and will also vote to determine what projects and artists are the best for the year 2007. Interested industry persons are still able to sign up for membership to the REGGAE ACADEMY. Several top artists have already signed contracts to appear as performers and award presenters on the show. These include Shaggy, Sean Paul, Morgan Heritage, Elephant Man, Diana King, Ky-Mani Marley, Ce?Cile, Etana, Assassin, and Voice Mail. In addition to the artists already confirmed the organisers are also looking at a number of overseas based artists who have been involved in Reggae and Dancehall music such as Gentleman out of Germany, Sinead O?Conner, Sean Kingston and Collie Budz. The REGGAE ACADEMY AWARDS will actually be the final event of a 4-day series of events which will include music business conferences and live performance showcases for emerging artists. The project has already received the endorsement of the Jamaica Tourist Board and Jamaica Trade and Invest/JAMPRO. In an article printed in the Trinidad and Tobago Express Sizzla says he fully endorses the move by the incumbent People's National Movement (P.N.M) to unite the nation's youth at the Beyond Youth Rally at the Queen's Park Savannah. The people didn't seem to happy because they felt Jamaicans shouldn't be mixed up with Trinidadian politics. But Sizzla feels different. "As musicians, we are the voice of the people we are looking for the equal rights and justice for the people and I am not afraid to meet with the Minister and tell him what the poor people need to improve their lives," Sizzla said in the interview. Tourism Minister Howard Chin Lee, the chief organizer of the Beyond Youth Rally, said the initiative is about his party encouraging frugal thinking among the nation's youths. Chin Lee said choosing Sizzla as their main act was not at all a response to the United National Congress bringing another Jamaican reggae chart-topper, Richie Spice, to their youth rally last weekend. "We have been planning this for three to four months now. What we're doing is bringing together a group of acts that the youth can relate to," Chin Lee said. Lastly, the promoter bringing Jah Cure to the UK will have to wait. Originally scheduled for October 21-24, ran into problems when the British authorities refused to grant Jah Cure a visa to enter the country because of his prison conviction for rape. As a result, promoter Castro Brown has rescheduled to run March 15-17. In our new releases this week first from VP & Big Yard it's Shaggy's latest 'Intoxication.' A full fledge attempt to please all his fans from pop, dancehall & reggae with guests like Sizzla, Akon & Collie Buddz as well as his Big Yard crew it's all there, it shouldn't be hard for everyone to find something they like.
