Election Roll Call Date: Sun, 18 Nov 2007 15:48:22 –0800 From: Ras Danny Greetings my fellow Reggae Ambassadors and blessed love! In addition to my ³QUALIFICATIONS & MISSION² as listed in the official ballots (and presented here below) I would like to clarify some of the statements I made therein. There are a number of functions that are currently available for us to facilitate the forwarding of current and past releases. I am researching the possibility of creating a Forum for the exclusive use of DJ¹s and Labels to be used to promote communication between the two groups. Also in the works will be a web page that will feature ³new releases² with reviews and interviews in order for all RAW members and reggae enthusiasts to see what¹s out there, coming up, and what is hitting hard at the moment. One more feature that is really progressive would be the Œdigital file transfer² method of forwarding the music to the radio programmers and club selectors. All these new ideas should help bring about a more vital RAW presence in the worldwide reggae community. QUALIFICATIONS: I have been a reggae radio programmer at a community radio station since mid-1999, so I know a bit about communications with reggae records labels and do have stable relationships with many to date. In this capacity I have, for many years now, been in constant contact with reggae labels with the intent to facilitate an on-going communication with them that ensures that I have up-to-date release materials and information to pass on to my listeners (potential buyers of said music). MISSION: My real mission statement is the same as that for my radio broadcasts, to forward the reggae vibes, just as it is for RAW, most especially to those who are in prison within earshot of my broadcast. That aside, I will work to help all RAW DJ¹s have access to ALL RAW members¹ recorded materials in order that my mission can and will be of fruition! We can all help each other realize our own individual missions! I feel I can bring some fire into the DJ & Labels Director position that has been lacking: to wit - a more frequent and on-going actual contact with DJ¹s in order to make sure the music is getting to the ears of the listeners who are potential buyers of the music in question! Those of you who already know me know that it is my mission in life to help promote reggae music in any way that I am able to. I vehemently promise to work tirelessly to help RAW become the Premier Reggae Ambassadorship that Papa Pilgrim dreamed of it becoming many long years ago (around the time that he gave me an honorary membership to RAW because of my low-paying prison wages) each and every day that I am a Board Member. Give thanks for your time and works, Ras Danny R.A.W. #301 Higher Reasoning Reggae Time [2] *=*=*=*=*=*=*= *=*=*=*=*=*=*= *=*=*=*=*=*=*= >From: Ras Danny [Reggae Ambassadors Worldwide #] Subject: Lion Camp Tour press Date: Thu, 15 Nov 2007 15:04:41 –0800 From: Ras Danny FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FOR PR INFO CONTACT: info@cultureyard.com ANNOUNCING: In the ³Final Sunday Reggae² series: THE LION CAMP TOUR Featuring JAH SUN and ISHI DUBE W/ORCHESTRA DU MONDE Also Uprite Dub Orchestra and Ras Danny¹s Higher Reasoning Sound APPEARING SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 25 Berbati¹s Pan 10 SW 3rd Ave, Portland, OR Doors: 9 pm Tickets: $10/advance - $12/Door www.berbatis.com Tickets at Berbati¹s Pan Box Office (503) 226-2122 Tickets also at Jackpot Records locations Presented by CultureYard Productions www.cultureyard.com Jah Sun Jah Sun is an artist that is LIVE-icated to global and social healing. Fusing the sounds of hip-hop, reggae and world music with conscious and uplifting lyrics, his message always finds its way to your heart. Jah Sun's debut solo album "The Height of Light" truly lives up to its name. The project features some of reggae's top recording artists such as Luciano, Junior Reid, Yami Bolo, Al Anderson (of Bob Marley and the Wailers). Jah Sun displays a wide variety of styles, with hard hitters like "Nuff a Dem," sweet ballads as in "Circles and Cycles" to unforgettable roots anthems such as "More Love". When Jah Sun is not performing, recording, or writing music his favorite things to do are play, create and travel with his wife and three children. Based in the redwoods of Northern California by way of Austin, Texas, Jah Sun's message speaks for itself.... LOVE IS THE ANSWER! Ishi Dube Rising star Ishi Dube, is a seasoned musician who will surely become a widely recognized name in the world of reggae music. Though he was born in the foothills of the Himalaya Mountains, Dube hails from the Kings Range Mountains of Humboldt County where by age 3 he had developed a love for reggae music. By 6 Ishi was already being primed for a career in the performing arts. At 17 he formed his first band, the Soul Rebels. A few years (and a few bands) later Ishi was blossoming into a legitimate vocalist with a skilled band performing live at clubs, events and festivals. Now 26, Ishi Dube is bringing a genuine roots sound with a newer dancehall edge to the reggae massive everywhere. The release of his self-produced debut album, "MASSAGANA - Thanks And Praise" mixed with his natural talents and hard work will ensure this soul rebel has a promising career ahead of him. Appealing to people regardless of class, color or creed, Ishi Dubes lyrics range through political, spiritual, themes, to words of social change, and the message is always positive. Jah Sun & Ishi Dube's band, Orchestra Du Monde, is a collection of world class musicians. Jimmy Foot is a musical genius. He is a guitar player, producer, and engineer, who has been playing professionally for more than 20 years, specializing in West African and world beat. Ken Lawrence, luthier and owner of Lawrence Instruments, is an amazing jazz fusion bass player who is also well versed in world rhythms. Tim Randles is an exceptional salsa keyboard player. Tanasa Ras, the backbone of the band, is a hardcore hip-hop, reggae/dancehall drummer, who is also a member of KRS ONE's Temple of Hip Hop. Chris Noonan leads the horn section and is a brilliant saxophone player specializing in arrangements for jazz, funk, reggae, and world music. RJ Satava is a true Rasta reggae percussionist, specializing in Nyahbinghi, rock steady, steppers, one drop, and dancehall. Uprite Dub Orchestra¹s MANIFESTO Where did all the music go? The last 50 years began as the most innovative time- rock music peaked, soul and funk were reborn into Hip-Hop, only to be capped off by a constant regurgitation of the same putrid gumbo the machine had force-fed us from birth to adolescence. Somewhere a horn was blowing, then a sound worse than silence. Surely pop will continue to eat itself, but wasn¹t there something left worth holding on to? And so a group of 6 brave individuals came together under the same ideals of passion for music and pride and ingenuity in its craft, striving beyond the grasp of the mainstream and commercial. Despite a greater accessibility to American music, they took a starting point near Kingston, JA circa 1972. And as of 2001 they were known as Uprite Dub Orchestra. Uprite bases their inspirations on a traditional design, Ska like the days of Desmond Dekker, Dub like when Tubby was King, and brings it forward with progressive music & lyrics. Armed with organic instrumentation, driven by tight horns, their live shows swing from clever instrumentals to conscious lyrics, rocking Ska to deep bassey Dub, haunting melodica melodies to punchy horn lines, from minimal to the maximum. The recent addition of MC Villain (credentials include Warsaw Poland Bros and Heavyweight Dub Champion) has opened up a whole new level for musical exploration and electricly charged live shows. This is not a group that will end up on a big corporate major label, perhaps because the Jamaican music that serves as Uprite¹s foundation isn¹t marketable to the machine... and that¹s fine with Uprite. Come out and turn on to the true independents who will always remain D.I.Y. Their mission is to deliver as many souls as possible from the maw of evil corporate music dinosaurs and cultural fascists, into the salvation of sweet soul music and sonic bliss Ras Danny¹s Higher Reasoning Sound hails from the studios of KBOO Community Radio, 90.7 FM here in Portland! Tune in to hear these artists as well as reggae from around the world Saturday nights, 1 to 6:30 am!
