Although the ratio of male to female singers is still unbalanced, this multi-talented singer/songwriter/producer is mere hope for improvement. She vows to break through the barriers that have relegated some of the most powerful voices to background singers with her sophomore album Here’s To Love. The Jamaican native honed her skills while performing in Hall Jackson's talented teens, the Clarendon Cultural development festival and many other local competitions in Jamaica. She also worked on numerous Dub Plates for Bodyguard Sound System before migrating to the US to pursue her academic studies. In her senior year of high school as a member of the NY All City Chorus, she performed at St. Patrick's Cathedral, Carnegie Hall and on Broadway for the New York Salute HIV/AIDS benefit. This experience created a myriad of opportunities including becoming a finalist for the Lena Horne scholarship, and offers to Julliard School of Music and Berklee College of Music. After a few false starts, Cha'Maine moved to Raleigh, NC, where she could dedicate herself to writing. However, the local Reggae scene would romance her back into performing and recording. Cha'Maine's versatility has given her the opportunity to work with some of the most talented producers, artists and musicians in Reggae: Sidney Mills, J.D. Smooth, Marcia Griffiths, Pam Hall, Glen Washington, Clifton "Specialist" Dillon, Courtney Panton, Benjy Myaz, Derrick Barnett, Barrington Levi, Ky-mani Marley, Barrington Bailey, George Ovationz Hunter and the late Dennis Brown. Cha’Maine’s sophomore album Here’s To Love is a thematically enriching 14 track album fusing elements of dancehall, reggae, jazz and R&B while subsequently exploring love, relationship and social issues. Sidney Mills of Living Rooms Records and long standing member of world renowned group Steel Pulse is the mastermind responsible for most of the albums production. Both producer and artists have developed a nice musical chemistry and its evident with the smooth transitions as the album unfolds. ---PICK UP A COPY OF "HERE'S TO LOVE"-- You can now listen and or purchase a copy of Cha'Maine's maxi single "Here's To Love" at http://www.chamainemusic.com and http://www.myspace.com/chamainemusic Copyright 2001-2007 Deeboz Muzik & www.deebozmuzik.com All Rights Reserved. From: RudeGal Date: Sat, 20 Oct 2007 17:15:32 -0700 Hi, I¹m doing some work with ESCO (formerly of the group Leftside & Esco). ESCO has new solo material circulating in Jamaica due to his recording efforts the last several months. Some of the songs include ³God Is Love², the single ³She Want Me² (from Christopher Birch/Birchill Record¹s latest Madness Riddim) and more from his new I-I-I Productions. Esco was just featured on the Cure Festival, October 14th in Trelawney Jamaica. Further, his radio campaign in Jamaica kicked off last week with HYPE TV¹s ³Up and Live² hosted by Too Sweet. Esco is going on the road in efforts to promote some of his new material. So far he¹s doing a promotional performance in Orlando on November 1st and then in New York on November 10th at Caribbean City. We¹re going after all markets in the US right now; everything from Miami up to Maine, everything running west out to the Rocky Mountain range, and all of the West Coast all the way down to Hawaii. ESCO¹s music is destined to be EVERYWHERE. If you¹re interested in doing something in between or around those dates, please contact RudeGal at the email address: rudegal@rudegal.com or call 909-227-RUDE(7833). Esco is also going to be headed out to Europe soon with Busy Signal! (More news on that later.) Meanwhile, you can check out Esco¹s newly created myspace page to listen to some of his new material as well as just become a member of his myspace community. Like a thunder heard around the world, the news of Lucky¹s death has saddened and distressed us all. Today around the world we are in deepmourning, in mourning for the family, in mourning for the friends, in mourning for Lucky¹s worldwide fan base and so for the Artists out there who have performed with Lucky on many occasions and for yet another tragic loss to the Reggae World of Entertainment. In our hearts of hearts Lucky will live on forever. He was an inspirational singer whose songs always moved us to action. He was truly Africa¹s Reggae King - that was shared with us all, on an international scale. Even though he sleeps now and is resting, he will always be the energetic inspirational singer we have all grown to know and love. Lucky Dube has made an indelible mark in the world of music. Through his Music he will remain with us until the end of time. Special remembrance from Queen Mushiya: My first introduction to Lucky Dube was in 1991 at the Reggae Sunsplash in Jamaica. I was enthralled in his performance, he was so energetic and played Reggae in a different brand than what I was used to. Lucky Dube impressed me so much, I even joined his fan club. He so inspired me that the Lucky Dube Fan clud was the first and only fan club for a Artist I¹ve ever joined. His presence will certainly be missed; he will however live on in our hearts and minds. Gone but will never ever be forgotten. Jah's continued blessings and comfort to you all. TO YOUR ARMS OF LOVE JAH CURE VP This weeks 'Reggae Vibes' is the African edition Ivory Coast's main city Abidjan is one of the reggae capitals of the world, has many artists & reggae bars. At bars like Parkers Place, Kingston and Jamaica City, reggae groups play covers of Jamaican legend Bob Marley but also of Ivorian artists like Alpha Blondy, who is Africa's first international reggae star. Here when the military took power they played reggae, because in this country reggae is known as the music of change, the music of combat. Producer and music specialist Francois Konian explains states "In the 1980s Alpha Blondy turns up, who is a sort of Bob Marley, "He sings our problems, but in a language we understand." "He sings in French, in the language of the street, Nouchi, he sings in local languages like Dioula and Baoule, and he sings in English, which makes him even more authentic." "And he sings things which are so very true - but which are said very rarely. After Alpha Blondy's success - and he achieved popularity and record sales around the world - a number of Ivorians turned to reggae. In fact, there has been a minor reggae war. One reggaeman, Serges Kassi, is a fervent supporter of President Laurent Gbagbo - in fact he is one of the leaders of his militant supporters, the Young Patriots, who in the past have been accused of being a militia. Another musician, Tiken Jah Fakoly, who is perhaps Ivory Coast's biggest reggae star after Alpha Blondy, is firmly in the other camp. He has created songs that criticize President Gbagbo heavily, calling him "badly elected" and a "thug President". THe recently released a new album, L'Africain. In it he sings a duet with a singer, Beta Simon, called Ma Cote d'Ivoire - my Ivory Coast. The song expresses the hope that no-one will take up arms in Ivory Coast again. Beta Simon was chosen, according to Tiken Jah, because he comes from President Gbagbo's ethnic group, to show that everyone in the country can be friends. In the same spirit, Serges Kassi says he is trying to persuade Tiken Jah to return to Abidjan for a concert. Perhaps the reggae war is coming to an end. Reggae musician Lucky Dube was shot dead in a hijacking on Thursday in Rosettenville, Johannesburg South Africa. Dube was dropping off his son in the area when he was attacked. His son was already out of the car. When he saw what was happening, he ran to ask for help. The boy was too traumatized to provide police with any information. The hijackers were still at large. Note that currently, South Africa has the highest murder rate in the world. In other car jacking news 2 face Idibaba has had it happen to him for a third time just recently in Zimbabwe but reports do not say any harm was done. In our new releases this week first from Mark Wonder & Jah Light Music it's his newest cd called 'Victory: the Mystery Unfolds.' On of favorite underground reggae artists from Jamaica.
