>From Lion of Zion Ent
Greetings from GospelReggae.com ! Christafari
has just returned from a very successful five-island tour of Hawaii and an
exhausting Gospel Music Week in Nashville, TN. As the temperature starts
getting warmer and we gear up for summer, we are preparing for an onslaught
of hot gospel reggae releases here at GospelReggae.com--your destination for
"Strictly Positive Music." Here are the latest additions to our massive
webstore:
Artist: Dominic Ba lli
Album: Public Announcement
Genre: Roots / Dancehall / Ragga Hip Hop
CD $15.99 Our Price Only $11.99
Download Album $9.99
ALBUM DESCRIPTION:
For over two decades I have been accused of being a reggae purist and am
guilty as charged. Perhaps it all started when I was a teenager and first
visited the sweet island of Jamaica. Ever since then I have gravitated
towards the reggae-sounding tracks of any artist that I heard from the
Culture Club to Elvis Costello and Fishbone to Bad Brains. As a youth I
would find the most unique reggae tracks and make mixtapes of the artist's
only reggae songs.
It's all around us you know? Elements of reggae in pop music. One of the
bands that took it the furthest into the mainstream was the Police with
Reggatta de Blanc (White Reggae). Since then countless artists have ventured
into reggae if just for a song whether they are hip-hop (Wyclef Jean and
Lauryn Hill) or rock (Sublime and POD). But why can't these artists who
bless us with an incredible song like 311's "Amber" give us a full-length
project to satisfy our soul's yearnings for more reggae? One artist finally
has. Enter Dominic Balli. After years of holding my breath for that
all-reggae album by POD I exhaled for something so much greater, Dominic
Balli's "Public Announcement."
I have stopped writing extensive reviews for some time now due to my hectic
touring schedule but after just one l isten to Balli's inspiring debut I
would be amiss to not make a "Public Announcement" of my own. With a sick
flat pick and a primal scream, singer extraordinaire Dominic Balli explodes
into "Rebel Movement," the militant cry of a revolutionary. Just check out
these thought provoking lyrics, "Society's new philosophy is conformity/but
they won't conform me," and later... "Presidential election/Or Governmental
oppression/We think it's (the) root of the problem/(It's) not the root of
the problem/It's (the) depravity in humanity..." Sound doctrine has rarely
sounded so sweet!
Next up is the rootsy "Drink For Free" inspired by Isaiah 55, one of my
favorite passages in the Bible. This song is also featured on Lion of Zion's
forthcoming Reggae Redemption Songs II. On the thought provoking chorus
Dominic's passionate vocal inquires, "Why do you spend your money on what is
not bread and your wages on what does not sati sfy." This powerful track
speaks to the heart of this empty generation that struggles with loneliness
and a lack of purpose.
The song "Sacrifice of Me" collides rock and hip-hop with a turntablist on
the ones and twos and a double time guitar chank reminiscent of the Police.
It also features two raps; one old school (ala Bone Thugs in Harmony) by
band member Jenkins and some new school flow courtesy of Dominic's good
friend and member of Shachah, Brenden Proclaim McPeek. Replete with an
ethereal bridge this cut is dripping with mainstream potential.
The following song "Remedy" grabs you from the onset with a distinct muted
guitar intro and Balli's plaintiff cry, "The voices inside keep you up all
night I got the remedy." The driving minor key riddim blends perfectly with
the wailing vocals and the spitfire chant on the bridge that sounds like
Matisyahu on Red Bull!
After this is one of the stronger reggae tr acks on the album. On "Arise"
Balli challenges the listener, "It's time to arise from the plague of the
fall to abandon the fear and step up to the call/Move on to something
better." With empowering lyrics, Marleyesque wails, and a brilliant
arrangement, this is sonic perfection!
On "Zion Mourns," Dominic takes us on an acoustic journey to the riverbanks
of Babylon. While Psalm 137 may have been sung a thousand times in reggae by
the likes of the Melodians and 'Imisi, it has never been sung like this!
With new lyrics and a fresh melody, Wyclef wished that he sounded so good.
Following this is unquestionably the most addicting song on the album. "All
We Need is Love" features a melodic rap by former Gotee artist Paul Wright
and some sweet guitar work. The infectious hook, uplifting chorus and
angelic vocals by Emily Balli (Dominic's wife) make this track a contender
for the perfect crossover single.
Spea king of guest appearances, on "Bread for the Broken" Dominic secured a
guest slot by Speech of the Grammy Award Winning Arrested Development. This
is a massive endorsement--especially for a gospel reggae cut! For those of
you who have been living in a cave for the last 15 years, Arrested
Development brought us hooks like "I am everyday people," "Mr. Wendal" and
the hit song "Tennessee." With Stephen Marley-like vocal inflections Balli
wails over a bubbling one-drop riddim while DJ Idull (Braille, James Brown
and Arrested Development) cuts and scratches.
Track nine is "Warrior" a song that sounds better than POD on their best
day. This edgy rock influenced track is sure to see quite a few of POD's
Warriors crossover to Dominic's Street team.
On "Conquering Lion" Dominic gives us a completely new take on a classic
reggae hymn that has been sung by everyone from Lauryn Hill to the late
Joseph Hill . Elements of this song (and many others on this project) seem
to be inspired by Hasidic reggae star Matisyahu. But While dR.A.W.ing
influences from others, Dominic has still managed to create a sound all his
own and surpass his musical mentors with superior songwriting, sound
doctrine and pitch perfect vocals.
After this Dominic reveals his skills in storytelling. It is so hard to sum
up the life of Christ in one moving song, but on "Rise Up" Balli surpassed
my greatest expectations! When you buy this album make sure that you pour
through the lyrics carefully and you too will get goose bumps. I love
Balli's soulful singing over the songs various musical movements that are
almost reminiscent of the late Keith Green.
Lastly, is an emotional song written about Dominic and Emily's recent loss
of their unborn twins, Zion and Hezekiah. These are touching lyrics that are
sure to resonate with anyone who has ever lost a loved one. And just when
you thin k the album is done there is a ghost track that is well worth the
wait!
I am going to be totally honest with you. I have two of the most critical
ears of anyone that I know in the industry. I rarely endure the first song
(in its entirety) on any album that is sent to me. It is even harder for me
to listen down an album from beginning to the end without pressing that
magical ">>" button whenever I hear something that makes me cringe. This may
have been the first album that I didn't skip forward on since Bob Marley's
"Exodus." This CD is incredible! Since I received it I have listened to it
over and over again at work, at home and in the car.
I am convinced that this album has the greatest crossover potential of any
album sold on GospelReggae.com. Dominic is an incredible worship leader at
his home church (Reality Carpinteria) and an awesome husband and father with
a burning passion for his Lord. Having known him for the last few years I am
confident that when he does crossover, (and he will) he will take the
CROSS-over with him.
It usually takes a new artist a long while to figure out who they are and
establish a distinct sound. It often takes more time for them to learn how
to write a really good song and even longer to learn how to produce it. On
"Public Announcement," debut artist/songwriter/producer Dominic Balli hits a
stride rarely reached by established artists on their 5th release! This
album is solid from beginning to end. This unique concoction of sounds
defies the limitations of genres such as reggae/rock/rap/alternative. It is
the most refreshing album to hit this store in years! Simply said--if you
don't buy this CD then you need to have a doctor check your ears! Order your
copy today!

Artist: Reubin Heights
Album: Heights of Great Men
Genre: Dancehall
Label: Lion of Judah Sounds
CD $15.99 Our Price Only $13.97
Download Album $9.99
ALBUM DESCRIPTION:
Since the inception of dancehall, raggamuffin deejays have often relied on
their singing counterparts to deliver the crucial hook and add the
much-needed pop sensibility. Chaka Demas had Pliers, Beenie Man toured with
Little Kirk, Buju Banton performed with Wayne Wonder and Shaggy has Rayvon.
So is the case with gospel deejay extraordinaire Monty G who has toured for
years with his trusty sidekick Reubin Heights.
While Monty G is notorious for introducing the hottest new artists on the
gospel reggae scene, you may be surprised to learn that a few of these
artists are family members (Mr. Lynx and Danno Rolle) and most of them have
been with his posse since its inception. Loyalty runs deep with the Lion of
Judah Crew especially in the relationship between Monty and his fellow
crooner Reubin Heights. In fact "Riddim Invasion 1," the first dancehall
compilation put out by Lion of Judah back in 2001 has Heights (then known as
Reubin) singing the first song. Since then Reubin has graced album after
album put out by Frost and Monty and amassed a massive collection of hits.
Following the release of Monty G and Reubin's (Live) In the Holy Land
CD/DVD, Reubin Heights was perfectly prepped for his freshman release. Over
the years he has more than paid his dues and is well deserving of the
belated release of his debut solo set. On "Heights of Great Men" Ruebin
finally steps out from the shadows of his counterparts and gives us his own
brand of pop reggae. While most of the tracks are Reggae, Dancehall or Soca,
Reubin's vocals are more akin to an R&B/Hip Hop artist like Usher, singing
in his rhythmic tenor over the synthesized beats. While this album may have
an urban flare, the riddims clearly make this a Caribbean album.
This record is primarily a dance/praise project as nine of the tracks are
up-tempo dancehall or soca riddims with sweet melodies of praise and worsh
ip. Tracks like "Heaven to Earth" (Reubin's twist on "Lord I Lift Your Name
On High"), "Lilly of the Valley" and "Dance 4 Ever" (featuring Monty G) are
sure to get you in an attitude of worship and dance. More rootsy songs such
as "Give God a Try" and "Good Feeling" give us a touch of the lovers rock
vibe that we come to expect from a contemporary reggae singer. While Monty
is featured on "Soul Winner" and Avalanchee can be heard on "Straight &
Narrow," the strongest songs are tracks such as "No Weapon" (over the
Jamrock riddim) when Reubin is allowed to shine on his own.
If you like upbeat positive reggae that helps you enter into worship while
cutting up some rug then this is the perfect album for you. After 8 years of
recording on various artist compilations, Heights can finally stand on his
own two feet and deliver a proud debut. Produced by Monty G and DJ Frost,
t;Heights of Great Men" is the perfect album for anyone looking for the
Christian alternative to Wayne Wonder. Order your copy today!

Headliner: Laza
Being a member of the world renowned Morgan clan is no easy feat. But, if
your dream is to make it in the music industry, it sure has its advantages.
Laza, formally of the popular LMS group, is currently recording his first
solo album to be released later this year. Laza took on the deejaying
(Jamaican style of rap) role within the group taking cues from a host of
hip-hoppers (Rakim, LL Cool J and Run-DMC among them) as well as the
hardcore dancehall toasters of the early nineties (Supercat, Buju Banton).
The group, in existence for over a decade, decided to concentrate on their
solo projects. “Before we formed LMS, Shy-Poo and I were working on our solo
albums and Miriam was concentrating on her dance group. Now, is just the
time for us to do this,” said a smiling Laza. Laza’s untitled album on the
family label, Gedion Music, will be a unique mixture of Hip Hop, Roots
Reggae and Dancehall. He will take some of his own personal experiences and
enlist the aid of producers such as Mojo (from Morgan Heritage), Don
Corleone, Fattis Burrell, Bobby Digital and Shane Brown (Juke Boxx). The
first two singles from the solo album reflect the diverse musical influences
that inspire Laza. Brother Mojo brings in the legendary Ninja Man to toast
on the lead single, Number One, currently being serviced at radio. R.A.W. and
poinent lyrics urgently delivered over Shane Brown’s instrument rich Chaos
riddim describe Laza’s follow up single, What A Gwaan.

An Idea Whose Time Has Come
It seems like a simple concept; insurance to protect your ownership rights
in a piece of property. Simple it may be, old it is not. Garfield Knight and
Chris Hind educated Neville and I about a new product offering referred to
as title insurance. The two main benefits of title insurance are that it
reduces the average time to complete a mortgage to one month and it allows
owners of registered land to secure a loan against that land. According to
the Caribbean Title Ltd. CEO and NEM Insurance Acting General Manager, there
are as many as 300,000 pieces of unregistered land in Jamaica, so the
potential benefits are extensive.
Off air, we had more time to explore the concept of title insurance. Key
point to note: title insurance applies to both residential and commercial
property.

RAS JESSE DAWN REVEALS WORKING WAYS OF
SPIRITUAL PROTECTION
Dear Readers,
It¹s commonly accepted that there is no real protection against aging
or injury, but believe it or not, there is a self-generated energy so
powerful that, when fully functioning, it can even stop bullets. I first
learned about this mysterious power after being drafted into the army and
then sent to Vietnam in 1966, discovering there a ³true power mental-energy²
that a
mystical sect of Vietnamese call ³Sanyama.² But ²Sanyama² is a phenomenon
without an English word to name it, so I came to call it simply IT. And
after a year in Vietnam of seeing and studying IT in action, I began
perceiving this awe-inspiring ³protection energy² as truly real, doable and
very effective.
But after finishing my two-year draft-hitch, so amazed to be still
alive and back in the States, for years I rarely thought about the
dream-come-true ³protective power² that I practiced in the war-torn jungles
of southeast Asia.
Although after experiencing radical Berkeley, California (between 1969
and 1981), by then a confirmed activist (where police already killed a few
of us)--I again felt the need for protection energy--sparked by my obsession
for organizing anti-war/anti-nuclear rallies.
All of which was highlighted by a protection-energy-³MIRACLE² so
extraordinary, it is crystal clear in my memory.
On a country road northeast of Berkeley, I¹m being driven to a concert
by my friend and fellow organizer Tony Barkovitch (in his old station wagon,
a rig too old to have seat-belts), when I realize he¹s racing this thing way
TOO hard. Ahead, there¹s a sharp bend in the mountain road, and I see we¹re
going too
fast to negotiate the upcoming turn, when suddenly IT came onto me,
everything shifting into a kind of slow motion (because powerful things had
to happen in just a few seconds of time)--whereby I transfer from
physical-body to energy-body, evoking (like the white of an egg) an aura of
shimmering energy that envelops Tony and myself. And as the vehicle is about
to reach the turn and roll-over, I merge us with the protective light, and
as the car rolls over, I remember to force my air and shielding-energy OUT
in a big WHOOSH (which cushions bodies against impact). By then the car is
sliding off the edge of the slope UPSIDE-DOWN! And then, unbelievable as it
may seem, with hood and roof ripping against dirt and stone, pieces of the
motor and bits of torn-open car battery crash through the windshield--broken
engine pieces and battery acid
flying PAST our bodies!
Then, finally, the vehicle came to a halt at the bottom of the hill.
BUT, like two dizzily grateful (Sanyama-protected initiates?) Tony and I
cR.A.W.led out of the sizzling wreck, both of us virtually UNHARMED! Tony
without even a mark, and me with only a tiny, half-inch scratch on my arm.
TRUE STORY--PRAISE THE EMANATION!!
And HOW does this protection power emanate? IT comes from the
CREATOR-given ability to WAKE-UP from the dream called ³LIFE² at a CRUCIAL
moment...
A moment that changed Tony and I perhaps forever, so grateful to be
STILL ALIVE!
Back in Berkeley, we felt newly blessed, fearlessly hosting our
revolutionary-intense, consciousness-raising events, even when dozens of
helmeted, riot-ready police closely watched, eager to arrest me (the chief
organizer) of the rowdy-radical (but faithful) congregations.
Soon I learned that to avoid being hassled or arrested, I could
become like a Sanyama-Vietnamese guerilla, protective-energy-invisible, able
to walk past gangs of arrest-itchy soldier-cops, TOTALLY unnoticed, as if I
(the ringleader) didn¹t exist.
Gradually it seemed I had little or nothing to fear, prompted by the
Berkeley-sparked adage that ³the first duty of a revolutionary is to remain
dedicated and undamaged.²
This motto-turned-real-protection-and-healing has saved me again and
again, especially when severely tested...As during that rigorous test years
ago in southern Mexico, when a drunken cowboy from Guadalajara broke a brick
on my forehead (a brick I saw flying through the air at me, allowing just
enough time to radiate IT--protective-energy whereby I neutralized pain and
injury from the brick (which didn¹t even make a mark on me). Yet another
test of the shielding and healing power I¹ve come to call CE
(Creation-Energy).
Yes, a strong exterior can save us, but inside we need a soft heart.
Indeed, I could go on and on revealing true-to-life occurrences that
expose the reality of IT, this brain-body (heart-felt) energy-shift that
both neutralizes injury and keeps bodily tissue self-renewing for untold
amounts of time. Thus
I keep believing in and practicing IT, generating more and more believers.
Or as Victor Hugo put it:
'No army in the world can stop an idea whose time has come...' A time
when protective and healing power will go far beyond technology and
³medicine,² merging holy (wholly) healing with mindpower ITself...²
