Lanzallamas
Lanzallamas Monofonica is a 7 piece ensemble charged with melodic fire and
global rhythmical chemistry. The palette consists of a wide array of
percussive instruments such as the cajon, steel pan, tumbas, timbalitos,
Afro-Brazilian hand percussion and drumset. Elegant layers of acoustic
guitar, cuatro, violin, and piano complement and enrich the sonic concept,
with the heartbeat of the bass and breath of the flugle horn to deliver a
very unique sound. Simple and memorable melodies are brought to life within
the lyrics, focused on unity and love, are presented in multiple languages
including Spanish, English, Portuguese and Serbian. The mission is clear; to

First and foremost Give Thanks and Praises to the Almighty
- JAH! the creator of all life.
Respect always to Jamaican Reggae Legend Mikey Dread, for his continuous
guidance of my career in Reggae Entertainment.
Welcome once again to Mushiya's corner of the Reggae World. Big things
a gwaan!! But first, I have a little bee on my shoulder that needs to be
removed or addressed, you be the judge. (smile).
Here is the Real Deal recently I attended a reggae concert by special
invitation, the concert was cool and all it's what happened afterwards that
put a bee in my bonnet. I am not naming the Artist to give them a benefit of
a doubt, maybe they just had an off night.
What happened? From the stage the Artist invited the crowd to purchase
t-shirts and CD's after the performance. When they finished performing the
artist came off the stage and signed autographs of those who made a purchase
and took pictures etc., but, it was more than obvious from his facial
expression that, he did so begrudgingly with a major screwface thing going
on and that really put me off! He signed the CD's etc., but minus the Thank
yous etc., First of all, If you are not comfortable in dealing with your
Fans (walk with a PR person to tempo the situation). Apparently he was tired
(understandably so). That excuse still don't fly with me. Respect is
Respect. Why? because I'm the Choir; been there and done that, over the
years I've had the privilege to work both sides of the coin as a fan,
performer, radio personality and PR person; my years traveling the globe with
Reggae Artists have allowed me a little corner of their world. I get to see
the real as raw deal, on what's really going on out there. I've watched
Artists like Mikey Dread, Glen Washington, Andrew Tosh, Peter Tosh, Pato
Banton, Eek-a- mouse, Inner Visions, Sanchez, Luciano, Kymani, Gregory
Isaccs, Chaka Demus & Pliers, James Brown and even Sting and on and on.
These Artist have put some miles on the road, night after night (country
after country) and still show respect for their fans. Recognizing that the
FANS are the gold; giving strength to their silver. They not only sign
autographs and take photos tirelessly, they do so without a begrudging face
and the audiences are loyal and love them up for it! - My suggestion to you
Rasta is! Walk with a PR person - give a limit of how many pictures and
autographs will be taken and get on to the next performance with more fans
than you arrived with, not less. Personally I was so put off;being in radio
we still have to play this Artist music, but I came away thinking I will
never again attend another one of their concerts, then I thought you know
just to give them a benefit of the doubt, maybe I will attend another one of
their concerts and if the same thing happens again, I will certainly name
names - I am removing my stinger and off my soap box!
Artist remember your Fans are your Power! Not the other way around - RESPECT
On to the Positive Reggae Vibes
December 2007: Jamaica - Mark Wonder, Luthan Fyah, Mackie Conscious, Sydney
"Mankind" Francis
I was so pleased, excited and honored to receive a call from Jamaica -
by way of Mark Wonder, apparently he read my last Corner in November 2007.
With all that was going on with my Boss, My Hero, My Brother, My Heart -
Mikey Dread. Mark was a true source of encouragement to Soldier on! He was
very uplifting in his words of praise for Mikey (apparently he met Mikey
last year in Kingston, while he was putting the final touches on his latest
CD "Life is a Stage"). Mark is like the oxygen that generates lifes fresh
air. I am so totally a fan of Mark Wonder's, he is so refreshing, super
talented and so humble in his ways he's more than deserving of any and all
attention out there in Reggae land.
It's no secret I've been around for a long time (now I'm not antique)
(smile). Just a little seasoned! I've met many a Reggae Artist in and out of
Jamaica over the years but I have to say; Mark Wonder has reached depths in
my heart, through his music that is normally reserved for a select few. He is
certainly a special one. I encourage each and everyone of you out there to
check him out. www.myspace.com/markwonder1
Jamaica is a country full of Humble Rasta musicians, who songs are deep from
within; their thoughts and actions embodies the true Reggae Code of Love,
Peace and Unity! What I keep hearing from promoters is that they need a big
name Artist to draw a crowd. OK, a big name had to be little at some time,
right? Take a chance on a Artist such as Mark Wonder, Sydney "Mankind"
Francis, Luthan Fyah and Mackie Conscious. They have the voice, they have
the conviction and stage presence, they have the resolve to give the people
what they want. Pure unadulterated non-filtered down Reggae music straight
from the yard without the prima donnaism. What they need is a chance to
bring their specialness to the U.S., Canada and Europe. You guys the
promoters, club owners and fans are the key to make this happen. Many don't
have a big name outside of Jamaica and pockets of Europe, so what! Get the
media on your side; There are resources to make this happen - Radio DJ's,
News people, Magazines and T.V. get on the ground floor and build these most
deserving Artists. Make their His-tory your his-story. Mikey Dread, Freddie
MacGregor, Dennis Brown, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh,Beenie Man, Sizzla, Sean
Paul to name a few, came out of Jamaica. They too started as babies, were
big in Jamaica long before they hit foreign soil and look what happened!
Because someone took a chance. They all became bigger than life and those
who helped lay that ground work is the better today for it!

January 2008: WKDU Philadelphia, KNON 89.3 Irie FM Dallas
I am so pleased to visit Philadelphia on behalf of Mikey Dread via
invitation from Leon Campbell. Give Thanks! Even though Mikey is
temporarily out of commission we are all determined to keep flying the DATC
flag high, until the Lion is back in the Reggae saddle again! Thanks for all
of your support! Special big ups to - Reggae's Swooner King - Glen
Washington - Glen has proven over the past couple months, that he not only
sings with a honey sweet voice, he is a very caring Rasta man. Glen always
take a little time out of his busy tour schedule, to chat us up and check on
the Dread -Mikey Dread. Give Thanks Glen, just for being you!
Big Up! to WKDU Philadelphia and the Reggae Radio DJ's Rookie, Roger
Culture and Crew and Reef Caribbean Lounge for the Large ups throughout the
night and the warm hospitality. People; when these guys come out to party,
that is exactly what they do. The "Reef" was packed to the limit and no one
sat down ever. These Reggae DJ's from WKDU was most certainly rocking the
house! I loved their selections, their style and the way they piggy backed
each other on the boards so that each DJ would get a chance to rock the
place. They are very versatile in style and a great crowd pleaser. Hey, I
will return to Philadelphia and attend any party these guys are throwing
down, as they are certainly non-stop rock until you drop - Reggae/
Dancehall/Soca Selectors. When preparing to attend any of their events be
prepared to wear out your dancing shoes. Satisfaction is most certainly
guaranteed!
KNON 89.3 Irie FM Reggae DJ's Dallas: Was invited to take part in the Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr Parade on Monday, January 21, 2008, one of the oldest
and largest MLK parades in Dallas. In proud colors of Red, Gold and Green,
Jah Larry, Ras Ridi, Everton and Tunde Obazee, along with many other KNON
Radio DJ's - boarded the KNON float and enthusiastically greeted the
appreciative crowd . Unfortunately for myself "Queen Mushiya" and DJ Ima
Uwagbai, we arrived late and missed the float; since KNON float was the
first float out Ima and I ended up walking the distance of the parade in a
little rain, a little snow sprinkles and tempearture cold as a block of ice!
I guess you can say we were feeling the King vibe of brotherly love and
determination to finish (somewhat) as we walked the distance of 8 miles,
greeted up the KNON 89.3 Irie FM Reggae fan base as we passed. Stopped
occassionally at the request of onlookers and took pictures. (smile). All in
all it was a very pleasant experiece. Deep Respect for the memory of MLK!

February 2008: I realize that February just started. So much has transpired
already and I would like to share it with you all. I go back on the road
Friday February 8th (next stop California) so I will be out of commission
for a while.
Dallas, Texas Saturday February 2, 2008:
At the invitation of DJ Ebou and the Palm Beach Reggae Club Dallas - we
were invited to attend a concert by Junior Reid and The Reggae Angels with
opening acts of Dallas Local Reggae performers Ras Timba and Miss Too Much.
More Fyah Sound Crew!!! DJ Ebou, Lionheart and QB - What can I say? they
still know how to pack a house and mash up a place!! This they did at the
Palm Beach Reggae Club last night and more. I guess that's why they are
called More FYAH! this is the same group that brought to Dallas, Kymani
Marley, Spragga Benz, Lady Saw and Sean Paul. And more recently Reggae
Angels and Junior Reid. These guys are working overtime to get the Reggae
Vibes rocking in Dallas, so any time I am in Dallas and they do an event, I
make it my priority to support them. A well blend of Gambian and Caribbean
Pride. Now hear me! If a Gambian DJ is controlling the set, you can bet that
the music will be off the chain! In West Africa the Gambia is reminiscent of
Jamaica in more aspects of life imaginable. For instance if you walk down
the road - what do you hear? Reggae, if you turn on the Radio what do you
hear - Reggae. Glen Washington told me that he recently performed in the
Gambia in a stadium to a packed crowd!!!! - The Gambian's certainly get this
thing we call REGGAE! DJ Ebou hails from the Gambia! "Cutie" QB is hailing
from Trinidad and Lionheart? Help me out here. www.morefyah.com
Lets look at the Reggae Angels with Fenton. First - no secret I've
been a fan of the Reggae Angels based out of San Francisco, California for
many years. I was first introduced to Fenton and the Reggae Angels when they
were touring with Andrew Tosh and find that Fenton is such a refreshing
soul. The Reggae Angels sounds reminds me of a mix between UB40 and Big
Mountain, of course the Reggae Flavor they have is all their own however
there's a tinge of those two great bands in the sound. After listening to
The Reggae Angels vibe, I find myself fascinated and needing to hear more of
them. So hopefully in the coming months on one of my trips to Cali, I will
have a chance to catch them live in their backyard. What I really liked
about The Reggae Angels is that, all their performance material seemed to
have been their original material, they did not cover other Reggae Artists
material. For me that is so refreshing, it shows the depth of their
originality and creativity, they are who they are and not trying to be
anyone else other than The Reggae Angels. I encourage you all to support
this most gifted and wonderful band. Again, great music, good vibes
deserving of much recognition! http://www.reggaeangels.com/
Junior Reid "One Blood" - Andrew and Wada Blood - This was my first
time to see Junior Reid perform live and it really was a good show this
Saturday at the Palm Beach Reggae Club in Dallas. Amazing isn't it! The
queen's first Junior Reid performance, well we never traveled in the same
reggae circles in or outside of Jamaica. I did however, enjoy his set, he
performed a Reggae oldies but goodies medley, which included "Shine eye Gal"
that had the girls on their feet and jumping. My special highlight from his
performance was when he performed my all time favorite song "Guess who's
coming to Dinner" and everyone in the audience chimed in "Natty Dreadlocks."
It was wild, he had the people climbing the walls.
I do remember Junior Reid from many moons ago, he was Michael Rose's
replacement when he left Black Uhuru for a solo career. Junior's stint with
Black Uhuru was brief - I think maybe two years at the most. I guess I did
not really pay too much attention to him at the time, as my teenage heart
was throbbing for Duckie Simpson and I followd Michael Rose's path to the
Sons of Negus (smile). Junior Reid's voice was so close to match Michael
Rose as you really could not distinguish Reid from Rose. I did not follow
his career after this. So, I guess witnessing his performance tonight was my
re-introduction to this singer. However I had a hard time assimilating in my
brain that the voice I was hearing from the stage was not Michael Rose but
that of Junior Reid. However, I have to give Respect where Respect is due
and give Junior Reid a large up for a good solid performance.
Furthermore, when he performed "This is why I'm Hot". I thought the Youths
them were going to jump the floor in! For a seasoned performer such as
Junior Reid I thought his performance was picture perfect, he has a splendid
vocal range. He is musically articulate and entwined splendidly the old
sounds with the new by incorporating Wada Blood into the stage performance.
Wada Blood by the way are excellent hype performers!
UPCOMING!
Special message from Inner Visions Reggae Band:
Great News Fans!! Inner Visions have been invited back to Europe this
coming Summer. So in the spirit of love we felt we need not leave our
American fan base starving for their usual Inner Visions fix again as we did
last year. Some of you on the East Coast saw us briefly as we made our way
North and into Maine where we headlined a festival for the third year in a
row. From there we made our way over to Europe where we made good on our
promise to "InnerGise" our listening audience and make new fans. In Early
March we head North and make our way West into Texas (for SXSW Music and
film interactive). Then it's the Colorado, Wyoming, Seattle, Oregon,
California coast region. We anticipate hitting at least one Indian
Reservation on the way back as we head back East. We'll hit the Carolina's
in May before returning home.
We have missed five July 3rd and 4th Celebrations on St. John and feel
blessed to be able to be here this year.
For quite some time fans have been saying our CD's are wonderfully produced
but in no way captures our live show's energy. They requested over and over
again that we do a live recording. Still it was not until we hit the shores
of Europe and heard the same from newly found fans that we heeded the call.
Well, the good news is It has been done. Recorded in Upstate New York at
Woodstock's Bearsville Theater by renowned studio engineer Mr Chris
Anderson, it captures just a tiny bit of the vibes this past September. It's
currently in the final stages and hopefully should be hitting the streets
before we leave town. I'm starting to see what the fans meant! There is
something there but I'll leave it to you to decide! The CD's title will be
"Inner Visions Finally Captured....LIVE!"
Get ready to be "InnerGised" again in 2008.

Marcus "Yabba" Griffith and Traxx is Back!!!!!!
I have always said, I can't get enough of my "Yabba" - Yabba welcome
back to the Reggae Tour scene. The waters were surely dry! Yabba always
sweets up the airwaves. Of course my favorite Yabba song is "Bad Girl"
remix of an old Jamaican tune titled "Fat Girl" and "Washing my Dreads".
Most DJ's take enjoyment with Yabba's the Marcus "Yabba" Griffiths story
which chronicles Yabba's history in the Reggae Business lyrically. Yabba
and Mikey Dread has always been the wings beneath the winds for me. With
Mikey resting, I've been flying on one wing! It's good my second wing has
returned by way of Yabba I gather so much strength from what Yabba and
Mikey has had to endure in the business for so many years and yet they each
come out fighting to stay strong, gifted and Rasta! - Welcome back Yabba!
Check Yabba out. http://www.yabbagriffiths.com/
Marcus "Yabba" Griffiths - bio
A multi-talented musician whose repertiore includes vocalist, song writer,
performer, arranger, band leader, guitarist and producer, Marcus Yabba
Griffiths was born in Manchester Parish, Jamaica, and from age 11 he lived
in Kingston. A member of the vocal group, Gold Tones, Griffiths recorded a
single entitled "Girl Exposer" for Duke Reid's Treasure Isle Label, and
caught the attention of Rendford Cogle (songwriter for the Melodians). Cogle
wrote "Lock Love Away" for Griffiths to sing on Sonia Pottinger's Hi-Note
label and, in 1969, the song went to #8 on the Top Ten charts in Jamaica.
This same year he recorded a song for Clancy Eccles, "Don't Break The Heart
That Love You," and later re-recorded the song - and another which was never
released - for Clement "Coxsone" Dodd of Studio One.
Moving from singing to playing quitar as a studio musician, Griffiths worked
with the great musicians and singers of Jamaica - Bunny Wailer, Soul
Syndicate, Gregory Isaacs, Roots Radics, Carlton and Family Man Barrett,
Winston Wright, Lynn Taitt, Jackie Mittoo, Robbie Shakespeare, Sly Dunbar,
The Tamlins, Bobby Colphat, and many others.
Griffiths joines Charles Hannah and The Graduates in 1972, and 1974 found
him touring Jamaica with Solid Foundation. During this time, he recorded the
first version of his big hit, "Devil Woman," featuring the Tamlins; Devil
Woman was released as a single in the U.S. and U.K. in 1976 and captured
"hit song" status in metropolitan New York and Chicago.
In 1976, he toured the U.S. with Big Youth and the band Creation. After the
tour ended he joined the Black Eagles (now known as Morgan Heritage), then
moved to New York City in 1977 to form Yahtova (God Love). Still based in
New York, Griffiths, with Patrick "Shaka" Hochen, founded Traxx in 1979;
Griffiths and Traxx relocated to Chicago, IL., in 1980, briefly joining
forces with Aligator Records.
Marcus Yabba Griffiths & Traxx released its first album, Thrill of Victory,
in 1986 on the New York based Gysai Label; Thrill of Victory was named one
of the best new albums of the year in Europe. During the summer of 1989,
Griffiths met producer Greg Errico, a founding member of Sly & The Family
Stone, and Errico produced Traxx's second album, Reviver, recorded in
Sausalito, CA.
Griffiths' third album, Only Yabba, was recorded in 1997 and released in
1998 on Myjaki Records; Only Yabba features 11 songs including "Baby Sugar,"
a re-make of "Devil Woman." Good Reggae Music, and ep-cd featuring four
songs, was released in 2000 on Griffiths' Su-Cram Records label.
Griffiths' next full length album, The Yabba Griffiths Story, released in
2002 on Su-Cram Records label; The Yabba Griffiths Story features 17 songs.

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA¹S PREMIER ANNUAL WINTER REGGAE FESTIVAL
RAGGA MUFFINS FESTIVAL SET FOR SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 23 IN SAN FRANCISCO
TICKETS ON SALE NOW!
Tickets are now on sale for The Annual Ragga Muffins Festival in San
Francisco, CA on Saturday, February 23 at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium
at 3pm. This annual, all-ages event is just one in a series of festivals
which include Long Beach (February 16 and 17) and Santa Cruz (February 22).
An international arts and crafts marketplace plus food vendors complete the
festival atmosphere and offer fun for the whole family.
The line-up includes top international artists who exemplify the Reggae
spirit that Bob Marley championed: Alpha Blondy, Barrington Levy, Anthony B,
Midnite, Gentleman, Gregory Isaacs, Soul Majestic, The Aggrolites plus
Massive Sound International featuring DJ's Robert Rankin & Spliff Skankin
(line-up is subject to change and not necessarily in this order.)
-Alpha Blondy concludes the festivities with his 12-piece band Solar System.
He is among the world's most popular Reggae artists and offers a Reggae beat
with a distinctive African cast. Calling himself an African Rasta, Alpha
Blondy creates Jah-centered anthems promoting morality, love, peace and
social consciousness.
-Barrington Levy has been well recognized in Reggae circles since his early
recordings. Always a solid voice and an expressive vocalist, Barrington has
been able to stay consistently poised in the dancehall as one of Reggae's
most requested vocalist.
-Anthony B embodies all that it is spiritual and proactive about Reggae
music and has been steadfast in his mission to represent the poor and
oppressed, using sharp lyrics to confront political injustices and bring the
issues of the people to the forefront.
-Hailing from the Island of St Croix, Midnite is one of the most promising
roots-Reggae bands of the millennium - vanguards of conscious reggae whose
profound and innovative lyrics are sincere and deeply rooted.
-Gentleman sings about love, tolerance and respect and lives this ideal
wholeheartedly with his own personality. His three studio albums reflect an
enormous artistic development, during which he grew to becoming the
internationally best-known German Reggae musician.
-Gregory Isaacs ranks as one of the true superstars of Reggae music with a
career that spans three decades and legions of loyal fans worldwide.
-Soul Majestic¹s modern take fuses Caribbean style Reggae rhythms with an
array of other influences including rock, hip hop, soul/R&B, world, jazz and
folk.
The Aggrolites are a group of five L.A. musicians who mix old school reggae
with rock, soul and funk, heavily influenced by The Meters, James Brown and
Wilson Pickett. Their sound is a thick blend of rhythm and melody, seasoned
by years of love. The result is the infectious sound called "dirty reggae."
This year¹s festival continues the tradition of honoring Bob Marley, one of
the greatest champions of human rights and world peace.
Advanced general admission tickets are $39.50 and day-of-show general
admission tickets are $45 (plus applicable service charge.)
Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster outlets, Wherehouse Music, Ritmo
Latino, and select FYE stores as well as online at Ticketmaster.com and
APEConcerts.com. Tickets are also available at The Independent Box Office
($1 service fee) located at 628 Divisadero Street in San Francisco or by
calling 510.444.TIXS, 415.421.TIXS, 408.998.TIXS, 209.485.TIXS, and
