Someone at the (recent R.A.W.) Conference was saying, "What can R.A.W. do FOR you?" Nothing! But what can YOU use RAW to do for yourself? The sky's the limit.... In other words people joined RAW thinking it would automatically make them superstars, sell thier label's records like hot bread, have millions suddenly tune in to their radio show + attend their concerts/dances; many became disillusioned when this magic didn't happen to them and they quit. The point is that YOU have to do the legwork and the work work and RAW provides the tools to accomplish that task. There is no automatic magic service that does all these things for you, it is on you to utilize the resources they offer and make them work for you. If you have a radio show RAW can give you names of record labels and contact people, it can give you lists of fellow djs, it can give you sample playlist sheets, BUT it is up to YOU to send out those playlists, make those contacts, sell yourself and your show. If you have a band; RAW can give you contacts for Studios, Promoters, Radio, Clubs etc.. but again RAW is not going to give you a tour and instant success... you have to do the work using RAW's tools. Before i got back on the air I never joined RAW because i could access any reggae info I needed on my own. After joining RAW i made some great links. i know i will never forget Vermont Reggae fest getting station Id's from Mikey Dread, Beenie etc. and i attribute that to Nan lewis, Sue Delion and the RAW connection. Same things at the TEVA tour with Thrird World, Maxi etc. RAW (like soilent green) is people.. we help each other promote what we love Reggae Music. Dues $ goes right back into RAW. If there is left over $ it goes to memberships for those who can't afford it many in S Africa etc... i used to have a lil attitude about RAW, I prejudged it before i knew it. I'm here to say its good people trying to do good works. Ras Adam Simeon #1530
